I loved it. Every version of Harley Quinn has been great.
Perfect
Miss Tara Strong does a great job doing HARLEY QUINN in the batman universe. I'm glad she's the best voice for HARLEY QUINN.
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@dylanbottom4669 yeah I love HARLEY QUINN but let just say I love tara Strong doing HARLEY QUINN in the batman universe. She's awesome I'm glad she got the role as batgirl in batman the animated series season 4.😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀 Because without her who's going to be the new HARLEY QUINN after Arleen solkin.
Let's all just take a moment to acknowledge the fact that that guy made the joker call him crazy and scream out for batmans help, and got the batman to laugh all in the span of ten seconds.
Achievement!
And the fact that Ed Begley, Jr. was the man behind the voice of Charles Michael Collins! 😎🇵🇷🇺🇸📽🗽🦂
If memory serves, he threatened the Joker with death at the hands of a nobody. If Charlie ended up being the guy to bring down Joker, he'd be a laughingstock, and not the kind he wants to be.
@@VivaLaDnDLogs | More then that, Joker's all about theatrics and "sending a message." Dying in some back alley at the hands of a nameless
assailant like some common crook is a terrifying notion. One that normally his megalomania prevents him from considering. For the poster-boy of "life is chaos and nothing matters," he desperately wants his own actions to matter. He IS an entertainer after all, hence the clown persona.
@@VivaLaDnDLogs I love how this characterization started here is used in Batman Beyond Return of the Joker.
All it takes for Terry to get Joker is to make him the laughingstock instead of the dark comedian he wants to be
Moral of the story, don't succumb to road rage. There are alot of crazy joker's out there
ry ag it’s all fun and games until the O lineman gets out of the car lol
I thought the moral is don't mess with a person who has nothing left to loose!
Can't be too carrful with all those weirdos around😜
Don't I know it.
Just a few weeks ago I was passing through an area with a shopping district and I quickly crossed the Road knowing I had just enough time before an upcoming car.
The driver cussed at me as he passed, giving me the finger out his window.
I reciprocated by simply putting the finger up at him myself and went to continue on my way... bit barely got into the car park before the guy came back yelling "you dare put the finger up at me? You wanna go at it right now?"
1. So what, I gave you the finger. It's not a big deal.
2. When you give someone the finger, do you honestly think they won't give it back?
3. Did you seriously just stop whatever you were driving towards, possibly something to do with your job, just to threaten to beat up a random stranger who gave you the finger after you gave it to them? How pathetic a man are you?
I even reasoned that threatening to beat me up in public was a really stupid move.
Not only could I go into any of the stores and get security, but, in the area in question, there's a martial arts center and there were people inside who could easily see in our direction and would likely have come to my aid.
Honestly, the jokers they let have a driving license these days astounds me
I fthis episode weren't meant for kids to watch, there's be more swearing and middle fingers there. A more accurate depiction of road rage, at least on California's highways.
This is one episode I always love. It perfectly shows how terrifying and insane Joker really is. Not to mention that it is very rare to see Joker being beaten by someone else to the point he gets desperate enough to call Batman for help.
It is also rare that the Joker can beat up Batman once or twice in any media IF he had a chance to do so.
CHARLIE! You've had a long day! All this...running around with BAAAAAATMAAAAANN!!!
I feel like this episode fits into the Arkham knights theory of Joker’s fear of being forgotten, him being killed by a normal citizen/nobody would truly be his worst fear
And the worst part is that it shows how Joker is a massive HYPOCRITE! That was 10/10 funny
@@IggyTheLighskinWonderI mean its not just a arkham knights theory, the Joker just fears the mundane and simple, and a simple and mundane death that has no meaning is something he fears most.
That laugh Joker made after leaving Charlie. Instead of his usual high-pitched, psychotic laughter, this time the Joker's laughter is surprisingly _low and ominous._ He's not playing up the clown image for once, this is just *pure, cold-hearted malice.*
The very first "Mista J."
And the very first Harley Quinn!
@@nicktechnubyte1184 Can't have one w/o the other.

Digger: (reflecting on his life) I wish I was dead.
Death: (appears) Pardon?
Digger: (suddenly appreciates his life) Uh... I wish I could do this all day!

This was one of the funniest episodes to me. Dude accidentally pisses of the Joker, leaves the city just to get away from him, and the Joker just wants him to hold a door for him.
Joker: O-Kay, Chaz. When Harley knocks on the door three times, you open it.
Charlie: And...?
Joker: That's it.
Charlie: Wait... That's the favor? You called me here just to open a door?
Joker: Well, look at the size of that cake, man! She can't open the door and push it in all at once! Think!
"Well, look at the size of that cake, man!" is my favorite Joker line from the entire series. Cracks me up whenever I think of it.
@@Iritscen "He's nuts!"
It's kinda scary when the Joker actually makes sense.
He was Omni-Man before Omni-Man.
"She can't open the door, and push it in all at once! Think!"
Think charlie think do you really believe that harley can push the door and open it by herself with a big cake like this
That "Two years later" transition is both funny and scary. To think Joker spent two years spying on some rando like the maniac he is
I'm strongly inclined to believe Batman laughed SPECIFICALLY to piss off the Joker.
I mean, going over this show, Bruce rarely misses an opportunity to do that.
I am a firm believer that Batman didn't find this as funny as his laugh would imply, but he laughed anyway because it would mess with the Joker. Like in Joker's Wild when Bruce told Joker that the smiling clown faces were creepy and weird, just to make him annoyed.
Just think about it. EVERYTHING that is Harley Quinn had all started from this one episode. The comics, The other cartoon shows, The movies, the video games, the live action movies, and one or two Animes of DC. This episode is the catalyst of that great red and black DC villainess.
Exactly. And Sorkin's inflection is a huge part of the character. I hope you watch the Harley cartoon, it's actually very funny.
And it all starts with a simple line, "it is to laugh, huh Mr. J?"
Well, except for the acrobatics and fighting. Something people criticize about her here. But again, this was only her first appearance.
This series as proved me correct on multiple points
I used to talk to a former friend of mine about DC comics a year ago
They were always very dismissive whenever I brought up how influential this animated series was
They didn't believe me that this series was the first appearance of Harley, nor that this series implimented the amazing backstory of Mr Freeze
I'm not gonna send this to them.
It's just comforting to hear that I'm not wrong for once.
You know what will feel even better? Sending this to them!
This introduced us to the joker’s true weakness.
That whether he likes it or not, he is mortal.
And there is a good chance that he will die before he finishes his game with Batman.
"Look Charlie, you've had a busy day, all this running around, all this excitement with...BATMAN?!"
Edit:You read this in his voice
I think Charlie had the better line when he said, "All the newspapers will say is the Joker was found dead next to some miserable little nobody." The idea of that happening terrified the Joker.
“Kind of funny. Ironic really. See? I can destroy a man’s dreams too! And that’s really the only dream you got, isn’t it?”
@@takeshikujo2909 The best part of that is... it's true. 😈😈😈

Probably the loudest I ever laughed watching this show
Still makes me laugh.
When a random civilian makes Batman laugh. Feel bad now Joker?
One of my favorite episodes. This was the episode which made me realize that Joker isn't a run of the mill villain. He is something special. The thing that i love the most about The Joker is his unpredicability.
If i read some newer comics, i can guess that Joker is going to kill someone. It could be shocking and/or gruesome. But its kinda predictable. Someone is going to die. But this kind of Joker is more nervewracking. You just don't if he will kill you or play a joke on you.
I love the fact that Joker's henchmen are named Rocco and Henshaw. If you ever watched the The Phil Silvers Show, you'd might get the reference. Also, Ed Begley Jr. as Charlie Collins, perfection.
Fun Fact: This isn’t the only Bat-related media in which he shows up; he also plays a Wayne Enterprises exec/boss to Edward Nygma a.k.a. the Riddler (Jim Carrey) in “Batman Forever;” I think the guy’s name was Stikley.
The reason I started watching TPSS.
3:25 full disclosure I expected to hear the Pennywise “Wa-ha, wa-ha!”, but that’s pretty close.
Just imagining that cracks me up.
@@julesrules7297 What can I say? I'm a longtime NC viewer.
Charlie Collins= The most OP Batman character.
Jokers explanation for bringing Charlie back always made me laugh "Well look at her man, she can't open the door and move the cake at the same time!"
The introduction of Harley Quinn that lead to her rise in fame within the cartoon and comics only to be later milked for her popularity by people who have no idea what made her good in the first place.
You took the words right out of my keyboard
in a sense harley is supposed to compliment joker and work well with him and basically help she gained fame from being in other words a side character and when she had solo moments she could perform but her main purpose was to be the jokers right hand in a sense .......thats what i think really makes her good i could be misreading it but in my opinion thats what made her so good
You know there’s one aspect of this episode that I don’t know if it was intentional or not.
Shirley suffers from jokers big philosophy from the killing joke.
“One bad day”
all it takes is one bad day to turn the sanest man insane.
That’s basically what happens to Charlie, he has one rotten day and in his anger he threatens the last person you want to in Gotham. And then he lives in fear for two years.
Note to self - never make a deal with the Joker. Scary....As for Harley Quinn to make an appearance to to become a popular too, who knew.
Funny thing is, that reminds me of a scene from the comics, where a boy just bumps (not literaly) into Joker and begs for his life, to which the joker angrily says "do I look like I just kill randomly? I just do it when its FUN!" and sends the guy off xD
Tayla Drago Hester ik
@@MrKlausbaudelaire That it is.
Charlie Colin's theme with the muted trumpet, slinky clarinet, and the blurting tuba always makes me smile. How did Shirley Walker make a song that is played so off sound so good?
This episode represents one of the problems I noticed on the Joker nowdays.Besides the fact that DC/Warner overused him as villain in the batman stories, I really didn't like how in the recent comics every Joker story needs to be something big, epic with the entire Gotham City at stake. I much more prefer story like this episode, in which Joker is much more a psycho boogeyman, who enjoys making people suffer. It doesn't matter for him if the victim is someone important or just a nobody like Charlie, all Joker cares in the end is to see his life ruined.
I can never get that “Collins Theme” music out of my head. Yes, I call it that cuz you only hear it (I believe) in this episode. 😂
I think they took inspiration from the Otis theme from Superman lol
@@alexsilva28 Haha, I can see that! That's hilarous!
I saw this episode on its original airing, when I was a senior in college. My buddies and I loved it and the idea of someone having a road rage response to what turns out to be the Joker was brilliant. It actually is a pretty good lesson also, you never know when that moron you want to honk and flip off might be dangerously unstable.
Best Joker episode theme. To this day, when I think Joker, it's this episode's wonky tune I think of.
Now I want meatloaf.
First appearance of Harley Quinn

This was the episode that made Hamill the quintessential Joker for me! Like Walter says, the balance between goofy and utterly terrifying is perfect! I just love how he casually keeps tabs on Charlie for two years to collect his favor! I imagine Charlie convincing his family to move, change names and try to disappear, thinking it worked for two years, only to find out it was all for nought! And the Joker kinda just did it for shits and giggles! I love it!
And like most people, I too immediately got a cartoon crush on Harley Quinn when she showed up!
Worse, Joker probably knows this guy has been living in absolute terror about what favor he could possibly be forced to do. Rob a bank? Kill someone? Bomb half the city??? Which is why Joker likely waited until he had a plan all set that wouldn't really require much so the simplicity of the favor could be the punchline. Charlie changed his name, left town, and likely lost two years of sleep for THIS?! Which, like Walter said, is actually pretty funny and a good pay off since the first time audience was probably waiting to see what unfortunate fate Joker had in store for this poor man only to find out he just enjoyed messing with Charlie.
You know it’s funny even though this episode was meant to introduce Harley Quinn it always felt like the Joker introduction episode Bruce Timm wanted to make
Then again maybe that is because of the order it aired like Walter says
It wasn't meant to introduce Harley either. She was just going to be a one-off henchgirl. But she became popular enough to warrant a return, becoming a breakout character in the process.
SilverHairedFreak25 still introduces her though
One thing I really like is the episode's main theme music. Most episodes focus on having a somber, ominous soundtrack, but here - it's all happy whistling with an upbeat tempo!! Definitely sticks in your mind after you hear it.
Aka: If Michael Douglas' character in Falling Down had ran into The Joker at the beginning. Oddly enough, it results in a much happier ending.
So enjoying this month. Wish they could be longer though. It's so much fun going through these episodes.
This episode mark the ever first appearance of Harley Quinn.

I don’t think people fully realize just lucky we were that Tim Curry dropped out of the role and Mark Hamill took his place. Yes, there’s the obvious fact that Hamill is fantastic as the Joker, but one point the producers behind this show made was to cast a lot of people who hadn’t done much voice work or any at all, at least back in 1992, in order to give all the characters more of a unique identity. While Mark Hamill is now a staple voice actor in the industry, it was really his role as the Joker on BTAS that kickstarted his newfound career as a voice actor (prior to that, he was a washed-up live action actor mainly known for his break-out role as Luke Skywalker), so back then, his performance as the Joker was something totally fresh and new. Tim Curry was not only a prominent voice actor at that point, but more importantly, he was very well-established as an actor who played theatrical, larger-than-life villains, to the point that “Tim Curry villain” is a trope in its own right. If he had stayed as the Joker, he probably would have done a good job, but then this incarnation of the Joker would not have been anywhere as memorable as Hamill’s take on the character and would have likely blended into Curry’s menagerie of 90s cartoon villain roles. It’s also worth noting how, in 1992, Mark Hamill was the original Heath Ledger, a totally unorthodox casting choice for the Joker that wound up blowing our minds.
Tim Curry would have made a pretty great Riddler, though.
"Riddle me this, Batman! Do you have Prince Albert in a can?"
I'm not sure if its my adoration for the batman animated series or just the enjoyment of these mini-deep dives, but I am really enjoying your video series. It may even be nice to see another series covered similarly.
Yess I was waiting for this one. Definitely one of my favorites.
This was the very first Joker episode I ever saw. It still ranks as my personal favorite.
When Joker actually runs down Charlie off the road, and threatens him, I found very
chilling. And to hear Joker speak for the very first time, in this series, really blew me
away. It was ultimate perfection. (*and this was before I even knew it was Luke
Skywalker doing the voice*) That alone knocked me out. Just a perfect Joker episode
which also gave us our beloved Harley Quinn.

Also, it's fitting that "Joker's Favor" was Harley's debut when it was my introduction to the character too. However, I thought, for much fanfare, she really didn't do much in her first appearance other than delivering a cake to the Commissioner and failing to fight Batman. Hell, after her first scene, she spends the rest screentime disguised as either a chauffeur or a cop. And her personality doesn't seem to have anything but devotion for Mr. J. Fortunately, later episodes fleshed out her characters and Harley became more than a moll in a jester outfit.
One of my fav eps.
Fun Fact: The guy who voiced Charlie, here, would go on to play Fred (back to work, Edward!) Stickley in "Batman Forever!"
I watched joker's favor on DVD. I got the DVD when I was 5 years old at a library and it was my favorite episode of all time.
I'd been looking forward to this review. Joker's Favor is easily my favorite Joker episode. Mark Hamill gives a superb performance, particularly in his first meeting with Charlie. Plus, I love the role reversal at the end between Joker and Charlie.

2. Another awesome part of this episode was the music. Among other things, we get the quite funny and catchy general theme music for this episode, and then also a truly magnificent rendition of the Joker's theme for the scene when he makes his entrance at the testimonial.
3. I didn't know about the whole 'Days of our Lives' aspect of how Harley came to be.

Like what other people said, this was the episode that really made Mark Hamill's Joker finally shine. Previous episodes were good but made the Clown Prince out to be no more menacing or unpredictable than his early animated incarnations. I love that he pursues a two-year long vendetta on a guy simply for figuratively flipping him off, I love that his "favor" is getting the guy to open a door for his bomb to come through, I love that his manic attitude drops when threatened by the sane guy who's had enough with his shit. "Joker's Favor" is honestly one of my favorite episodes of this show despite its simplicity.
