I think it makes a bigger difference to the player than it does to the listener. A player's physical characteristics, oral cavity, open of throat, etc, makes as much difference as chambers and baffles do. I recall playing a mouthpiece supposedly used used by Ben Webster, and not sounding anything like him. Reeds certainly factor into this combination. Learning how to play a certain mouthpiece changes it's sound as well.
It is a myth, based in musical inexperience that a good player 'can do anything'. If it were true, then we wouldn't have alto and tenor saxes, but only tenor, and not a variety of mouthpieces, but just one. And no, no one can make any mouthpiece sound like some other different mouthpiece, esp when chambers are totally different.
Have a minute, Please? I'm 72 & in decent shape, but I'm looking to blaze a trail on the path of least resistance at this stage of the game. Is one noticeably easier to blow than the others? I don't want to lose any facility as far as altissimo, though. I put in a lot of work getting some skill up there & if the larger chambers affect one's facility in that area, I probably wouldn't like that tradeoff. I'd sure appreciate it if anyone has some relevant info here. I'm looking to buy one of these, ASAP. Thanks!
If you do use one of these for your high school jazz band, I would use the small chamber. High school bands tend to go for more modern, louder, faster, higher-ranged songs that suit that mouthpiece better than the others.
@@IUJazz , hello professor Tom 😊 I saw you playing a v16 mouthpiece on the SOPRANO... I would like to know, do you play the S6 , S7 or S8 on the soprano?? And what reed you use on soprano please?
@@IUJazz hello mr. Tom.. thanks! I like that you enjoy v16 2,5 reed because I also really like them. I found, I think it is from your another chanel, a Master Class you did and I loved it! I think it was gold.. you talked about the importante of breathing and showed that exercise where you hold a paper near to the face and blow it! Awesome!! Wish you health and a good 2021! =)
great sound man!!!

Hello, have you ever compared the T7m with the T8m in terms of sound and feel?
Esta V16 caña que num para Sax tenor gracias.
What setting would this be most used in? I’m thinking of getting this for my school jazz band. Would this mouthpiece suit it?
Nah prob not
It is more for a combo setting where there is a lot of soloing and not many players.

What reed were you using here in this video?
