@@sopronunciareglignocchi7255, most of the cast of Doctor Who are lovely, the only ones I’ve met who came off as snobby were Jenna Coleman, Peter Davison and Anneke Wills.

It's wonderful that John mentioned William Hartnell because I was actually scared that he didn't know who the original actor was! He's the War Doctor! R.I.P John Hurt 😢
Well they only appeared once for the whole decade so people actually might not be familiar with the 70's Cybermen or the costume might be hard to pick up, oddly though they had the head of one in Dalek.
electricmastro Don't know I've always thought of them as an Episode/Story but made of parts e.g Earthshock Part 1. But then when you watch the Hartnell era all the parts had individual titles so perhaps they are better termed episodes? I guess it just depends on which era of the show you think of firstly Hartnell era fans and New Series fans would likely view them as Stories made of Episodes whilst being a predominately 70's fan (through my dad, I grew up during the wilderness years) I view them as episodes made into parts.
john hurt needs to get his own doctor who series with either an alternate timeline showing his adventures or at least his time during the war. he was an amazing doctor
Dr Who was always a very sophisticated production for its day. Young brilliant staff creativity and forward thinking. It’s scenery may have shook once in a Jon pertwee story. But it’s a diatribe spouted by people who clearly don’t know the series
I am from Morocco, I used to watch Doctor Who at Al Jazeera children before 2013,when the channel was bought by BeIN groups and became no longer free and we couldn't afford a subscription at the time. I cried a lot that night
I see that at the time of this interview the host did NOT see or even know about The Night of The Doctor! wow good to see they do their homework. The Night of Th Doctor answers the question of weather or not John Hurt is an official doctor!
“There’s some original 70s Cybermen over there” and then shows 60s and 80s Cybermen. But seriously, I loved John Hurt as the Doctor. He brought such gravitas to the role. I wish they’d given him a series. Whether it be John Merrick, Bob Champion, Quentin Crisp, Caligula or that guy who has an alien jump out of his stomach - there’s not a single thing that I’ve seen John Hurt do that wasn’t great.
Clara worked for me best in this special as John Hurt had better chemistry with her than any other doctor. He rlly knew has to play to her strengths and didn’t big her up in a dramatic way but instead Subtly and respectfully. He was the kind of doctor she needed. Don’t get me wrong Capaldi and smith r amazing doctors but she works better as an actress with him.
Jenna acted circles around Peter Capaldi in his first season despite being 28 years younger than him. John Hurt and Matt Smith were on her level but there's a reason Season 8 is called Clara Who and, despite the narrative that's often thrown around on the internet, it isn't the writing. Season 8 was written to give Clara and the Doctor equal amounts of development, so if Peter was a better actor, they would have felt more evenly balanced. John Hurt could have handled the "am I a good man?" story arc easily without feeling like a supporting actor. Doctor Who became Clara Who for a whole season because Jenna Coleman simply has more talent than Peter Capaldi. You can say it affects Clara and the Doctor's chemistry but that's inevitable when one side of a relationship has more charisma and is putting in all the work.
Don't know if this was already brought up but WHY do people KEEP talking about the minisode and then ask about the 12 regenerations????? The whole Sisters of Karn thing knocked that whole thing out already.
Sorry to be technical, but the numbers are wrong here, as we know now, but at this point Matt Smith would have been 13th, with David's 2 and then War Doctor, am I right?
what do they mean by "garden shed"? I googled it already and what I found doesn't really apply. (at least I hope not) maybe someone familiar with English slang can help.
Actually, David Tennant regenerates twice so he is the Tenth and the Eleventh, Matt Smith is the Twelvth and last of the 'conventional' Timelord lives set and Peter Capaldi is the Thirteenth.
That's the thing, it's never clearly explained but Matt Smith is the 12th, he says it before regenerating. A Timelord only has twelve lives possible. Maybe John Hurt's Doctor is supposed to be an aged out 8th Doctor, we can't really say the opposite since we didn't see much of the 8th Doctor so I guess that must be it. That is, unless Stephen Moffat explains it later.
Lokrow P I think your a bit confused a time lord can have 12 regenerations and 13 different faces per regeneration cycle. So you have got doctors 1-8, then Hurt's doctor, then 9, then 10's two regenerations and then 11. So 13 faces 1-8 + Hurt's+9+10s+11=13. So the 12th doctor is doctor number 13 but regeneration number 14 or 1 because he has a new regeneration cycle.
Lokrow P The John Hurt Doctor cannot possibly be the Eighth Doctor. Go watch Night of the Doctor. Also, Smith says '12 regenerations, 13 faces, 13 versions of me. He never regenerated into his first face.
He said "12 regenerations, 13 faces, 13 versions of me", not that he was the 12th Doctor. He's officially Eleventh because the War Doctor and David Tennant's regeneration don't count as new iterations of the character.
John Hurt and Jenna Coleman were both wasted on Doctor Who. They were written awfully and the only character they did right in that special was Tennant, probably because he wouldn't let them do his Doctor wrong.

5:00 Fortunately that limitation seems to have gone the way of Gallifrey. It kind of had to; the BBC would be insane to end "Doctor Who" again, not now that it's caught fire all over again.
I'm wondering how they are going to handle this, is John hurts Doctor going to count as one of the regenerations, or since watching The night of the Doctor, since it wasn't a normal regeneration because he used the Elixir of the Sister hood for the regeneration maybe the John Hurts doctor is an extra that doesn't count towards the 13 incarnations all together.
time lord law lore a time lord can regenerate 12 times only. they're NOT immortal, just very long lived. Mind you each regeneration can last for several hundred up to 1000 years per time! There are exceptions of course!
Actually they're 60s & 80s Cybermen. Which is a shame because the 70s Cybermen from Revenge of the Cybermen were the best looking in the classic series while the 80s were the worst.

OpenMawProductions Yes, and this "pivotal role" was so generic that you could have swapped her out for anyone, anyone at all, and the only change you'd need to make to the script would be the character's name. The role clearly wasn't written for her.
aperson22222 The way that Clara delivered the line was written for her, but you are right. If you change around the way a companion delivers lines and throw their name in the script, it would still work perfectly fine.
Its odd when you think of how many franchises Hurt has been in now; Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Alien and Merlin. Heck, he even did the voice or Aragorn in Ralph Bakshi's animated version of 'The Lord of the Rings'!
