I agree whole heartidly about the Regime Superman as well as these stories always having Supes as bad and Batman as good. Like, let me list the stories similar to this.
Justice Lords: Batman is a part of the team but is the only one to have a change of heart, everyone else stays the same.
Injustice: Superman is a fucking cartoon villain, Batman is the only one of the trinity that is rational.
Red Sun: Superman was raised in a communist setting and to be fair, is still being reasonable but slowly gets pushed to be more dictatorish, Batman is one of Supe's unintended victims as his second in command is the gunman that kills Bruce's parents giving him an intense hatred of Superman but more so the gunman.
Kingdom Come: Superman isn't really a villain but is going too far, Batman is still more in the right despite turning his city into a police state monitored by giant Bat Bots but Superman making a temporary Gulag to house to overly violent new 'heroes' is seen as bad which it is but I feel Batman making Gotham a Police State kinda makes his side seem a little iffy.
Squadron Supreme: This is a Marvel story but it revolves around characters clearly modeled from DC characters, similar to Watchmen modeling its characters from Charleton Comic characters. Hyperion (Superman) while not a villain, is on the side that is going too far and Nighthawk (Batman) defects and tries to stop the Squadron Supreme (Justice League) from achieving their goals as they progressively go too far to the point where they are altering the personalities of people, with their consent at first but then they change their villains personalities so they work with them and its made blatantly clear that the villains, despite the new, friendly dispositions, are forced to be on their side as they can't even call out a potential traitor as they are forced to be loyal to the Squadron so until they don't count as a member, they can't do anything to stop them.
Dark Knight Returns: I haven't read the comic or watched the movie so I am a little unclear of the set up but from what I gathered, Superman is essentially a tool of the President and the government forced super heroes into retirement so Superman is still on the wrong side while Batman is on the right.
Six, SIX STORIES where Superman (or near identical character) is the antagonist while Batman (or near identical character) is in the right. Superman, shining beacon of hope who is the greatest inspiration to most other characters in the DC Universe is routinely the villain in Elseworld stories while the paranoid, reclusive, always on the edge and even apparently contemplating murder a lot Batman is routinely the good guy who has an indomitable will and can never give in to murder even if his main foe kills millions of people, an unborn child and scars a man Bruce pretty much sees as a brother. I like your idea for the story because Batman is in the wrong this time where as Superman is in the right but regardless of that, both are reasonable and in character, Batman doesn't sound like a cartoon villain, he just got to a point where he couldn't abide the actions of his dangerous and demented rogues gallery and Superman is treating him like a friend despite his fall from grace. Also, Wonder Woman is also in character and has an important role in the story too where as in this storyline she is only really interested in seeing if Superman is the 'Man of Steel' in other ways. I honestly despise Superman more than Wonder Woman but that is solely because the stories try to make it seem like he deserves sympathy and that his fall from grace was reasonable where as WW is a murder happy cunt from the word go it seems.
On the topic of Regime Superman, I hate him because he truly is a cartoon villain but the story expects me to take him seriously and see him as a Superman who fell from grace when the stories I have listed have done that too and didn't result in Superman brutally murdering someone and it took YEARS before they went down a darker path. Regime Superman is an unself aware child who really is basically Hitler and loses all sympathy when he decides to demolish Metropolis despite its destruction being a catalyst for his character turn, so he shouldn't be so willing to destroy it. When your traumatized character starts acting practically the same as the one who traumatized them it makes them very unlikable. Superman willingly destroys Metropolis, kills children and people's lovers because Metropolis was destroyed, his child was killed along with his lover...you see the issue here? Injustice 2 is even worse because as you talked about, this game at least has a good Superman, 2 does not so we have shit fuck Superman all the time who seems less like a cartoon villain but still lacking in self awarness when he sees Metropolis again destroyed and freaks out about it...even though he casually let it be destroyed a year earlier. This version doesn't work because he apparently had the same life as a normal Superman yet so quickly turns to Super Hitler at the drop of a hat. Murdering Joker is fine but once he beats Ollie to death over a clear accident and kills Captain Marvel for speaking out of turn...yeah...this isn't Superman. Hell, Communist Dictator Superman and I think even NAZI Superman have a better moral compass than Regime Superman despite being raised in worse settings. There is something fucked up here when the Superman that was raised by Stalin is a more reasonable person than a Superman raised by the fucking KENTS.

You get it 100%. I recall Nazi Superman being devastated at the loss of his Kara. Head emotions other than rage. Shocking that a fictional nazi is more human than IJ Superman.
And if you want to go into more instances of Batman being the good guy against the League, there's also the times everyone got mind controlled aside from him:
-Batman: Endgame - The League is infected with Joker Toxins and Bruce has to fight them.
-DC Universe vs. The Masters of the Universe - Bruce is the only one smart enough to flee the Watchtower when Skeletor shows up, making him the one to not get taken over, so he can work with He-Man's group to fight them.
-Justice League vs Suicide Squad - Everyone on both teams is taken over by Eclipso, aside from Bruce, Frost and Lobo.
Remember when Batman having plans in place to deal with the rest of the League was portrayed as a bad thing, not something it's a good thing he had?

      @MysteriousTomJenkins 5 лет назад +91

@@The4thSnake Wow, so even in situations where its the real Superman (or at least based on it as I assume the Masters of the Universe one is non canon), Superman still has to be the evil one. Its amazing that this concept is still seen as creative and ingenious but then again I remember seeing the Death of Superman animated movie they were doing where the trailer acted like they were doing something completely new by retelling the Death of Superman for like a third or fourth time so it seems DC just gets off on repeating things.

Fun fact, Aphrodite was originally a Goddess of War, and was even one of the main God's worshiped by the Spartans. She gradually lost this particular Diefic facet throughout major Greek worship, but when she was imported to Rome later on, she eventually got it back, so Diana invoking Aphrodite at a time of war, when Diana was from a warrior civilisation, does make a degree of sense. And I am willing to bet I put far more thought into this factoid of a comment than Netherrealm did with the story for Injustice

Injustice Batman is without a doubt the one version of the character I truly _despise_ with every fiber of my being. He takes the no-kill rule to the most ridiculous extremes of any Batman. Ever. Even to the point that he gets upset when Superman kills *Parademons.* Mindless, purely evil creatures that only know how to kill, maim, or destroy anything in their path. He will maintain his BS moral high ground even when he recruits HARLEY F******* QUINN, the nutjob that helped Joker start this mess by NUKING METROPOLIS. Going as far as granting her Justice League membership when all is said and done. She's not even really remorseful over her actions, she just mourns the Joker. While I hate Injustice "Wonder Woman" _almost_ as much (at least she's never depicted as being in the right!), my opinion of her did go up a little when she tried to kill Harley in the sequel. Batman refused to so much as comfort Superman, who has lost practically EVERYTHING, after he killed the Joker in the heat of the moment, but he pretty much bent over backwards for *Harley* of all people. The hypocrite can get bent for all I care.

That being said I notice that the story feels really close to Cry For Justice. Not only for how Superman is like Hal Jordan with his idea of a pro active super hero team, the super villains getting tortured or killed, and the shock death of a child character but also the stupidity of the heroes charging at him with no plan to fight him without getting hopelessly crippled. It is just like the JL charging at Prometheus, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern what did you think would happen? Even the way the villain is defeated is just as stupid and it makes what the heroes do to stop him lazy if all you need is your own Superman or in Cry For Justice, an ordinary arrow.

I think that's more a problem with superman's character and powerset than it is with batman himself. Superman is just so powerful that tactics and strategy are almost meaningless in a one on one fight, and his weaknesses are pretty well established. What other option is there but kryptonite? Sure there's red sun radiation and magic but they serve the same purpose, handicapping superman by weakening him.

    • @apophisgaming4964
      @apophisgaming4964 4 года назад +19

It's nothing like that. If it was, say, you or me against a prime Mike Tyson it might be more accurate. I mean...would you not want to give yourself any advantage you could if the odds were so heavily stacked against you?
Hell, most of the time Bats has a crack at Supes before he relies on the Kryptonite and generally gets nowhere fast. He tries to give himself no choice but to use Kryptonite, but Superman is so powerful that, before long, Batman is forced to even the odds. It doesn't take a genius level intellect to tell you that, if nothing is working, you need a change in tactics. Batman generally alters his tactics multiple times before resorting to Kryptonite because he just isn't a match for Supes.
Superman can see him through solid objects, hear him move and reposition himself, hear and react to the clicks and whirs of Batman's equipment as he activates it, destroy inhibiting or detaining gadgets normally designed for his strength purely by giving it 'a little more power' and so much more. Essentially, Superman has an in-built counter to just about anything Bats will unleash at him...without the assistance of Kryptonite to mitigate this advantage. The guy is just too powerful for Batman.
Also, to an extent, you've gotta give credit to Bats using Kryptonite in a bunch of creative ways against Superman instead of just showing him a green, glowing rock and having him weaken.

I forget the name of the comic, but it involved Booster Gold trying to prevent the Killing Joke from happening. It was deliberately stated that no matter how much you wish to change time, if something was destined it will always happen. Injustice vs Masters of the Universe had them literally try this and Lois in everyalternate time line ended up dying another way in ALL of them (car crash, land slide etc.). It wasn't an accident, it was fate, and that is something you canonically can't change in the dc multiverse.

I'm very 50/50 on the Injustice universe. On one hand, its brimming with potential for a darker storyline, one that the comics really take advantage of (ignoring the game of course) On the other hand, the Batman v Superman thing is so played out. Even as a kid, I didn't like it, and I didn't even like Superman at the time. (Also side note, its so annoying how writers act like Superman has such a short temper?? Like Superman is the chillest guy around why do all these AUs make his spirit so easily broken) Plus all the character deaths in the first game DEFINITELY hurt the second game, and it really shows imo. I really like your idea of Batman v Wonder Woman, with Batman being the bad guy, I think its a much more interesting unique take on things and it makes the conflict a lot more real and less black and white, especially if Batman made an exception for common criminals since "they aren't as big a threat" Then again I guess Wonder Woman v Batman doesn't sell lol. Your free to disagree with me but I just feel it would change the formula just a little bit. And I just feel like Superman in this game is soooo our of character from chapter 10 to 12 because from the rest of the story he barely does anything. The point of no return for me was when he killed f@cking Shazam. I felt heartbroken 💔 when he did that and wanted him put down immediately. You know, the event where WALLY WEST got beaten by Deathstroke placing his swords behind him and the fastest Flash ever known who's supposed to perceive time and react in attoseconds just ran into them...
Also, even in IC (which is the worst BTW), Deathstroke identified Zatanna as the most dangerous member of the JLA, Hal Jordan has repeatedly said the same thing.
Also, Zatanna doesn't NEED to say a spell. It's a common misconception, she uses word magic merely out of respect for her father and has never really needed to speak to use spells. She also has superhuman anatomy to the point where she's survived entire fights with a slashed throat so she's not as easy to put down as one would think.

Also, Zatanna has tagged the likes of Lobo and a bunch of supernatural demons with her word magic, her speech is not as slow as you'd think. Even if you robbed her of every magical trinket imaginable to where she can't protect herself with magical means, she might still do fairly well against someone who's basically a common human when it comes to magic.
All it would take is a Kung Pow-style net made of magic to subdue Superman. Even a bullet could kill him as long as its conjured with magic. Once again, only a stronger magic user can beat a competent magic user in DC

I made a thread on Reddit once, discussing how Injustice Superman is NOT just a tragic experienced Prime Superman. He's given too many outs and too many people have made too many good points about his evil attitude for him to be so cliche villain. According to the comics, not only have most of the members of the Insurgency have tried talking sense into Superman but the Green Lantern Core, the Old God's, Superboy and the Teen Titans, and even his fucking parents! He straight up murders Oliver Queen because of a misunderstanding with his parents there begging him to stop. Not only that but the hologram of Jor El says "I'm sorry for what I have unleashed upon your world." I don't know who the fucking idiot writers were at WB that thought this was an accurate portrayal of ANY Superman, but a Superman they're trying to pass off as the same one from the Prime universe with some added trauma? If it were my story, I would have had flashbacks to times where I justice Superman was talked down from killing an opponent by Lois. Like, he's on the verge of killing Metalo and Lois just puts her hand on his shoulder and says "He isn't worth it." At which point Superman drops him and flies off with Lois. Not only would it establish that Superman has been prone to bouts of murderous rage, but that it was Lois that backed him down. With her gone, it would be easier to see the transition.

@@The4thSnake This is explained in the plot. Batman tells the real/non-alternate heroes that most of his world's heroes obey out of fear for their own lives or their allegiance was bought out. Or they have simply "lost perspective." In Flash and Shazam's conversations we see that "lost perspective" where Superman's new direction seemed like justice at first, but now things have clearly gone beyond out of hand. Assuming these former hero underlings of Superman aren't as insane as he is, my guess would be they initially obeyed his commands out of inertia (JL has always been a team, so why stop?) or respect for their friend, or self-preservation after seeing what happened to Green Arrow. But over time, they can't live with themselves so try to rationalize their actions under Superman. That's presumably what Shazam and Flash did. Eventually however it reached a point where they simply could not justify the actions Superman was doing. No amount of mental gymnastics could interpret his madness as for "the greater good," at which point they defected.

Ugh...I have to agree on all the deaths. I read the whole leadup to the Injustice game and holy fucking shit I really had to steel myself to keep going...I love J'onn and Jon Stewart since I grew up with the Justice League cartoons. And seeing them killed so haphazardly and in such a hand wave motion was sickening. It's one of the only comic storylines I've read in its entirety so I can't help but feel bad for the fans of these characters that have to put up with this shit on the regular. Really I don't like death in stories and site Linkara as a good example of why. Paraphrasing, but in one of his earlier videos he says that "killing characters is wrong because that robs them of having the possibility of having future stories." Not to mention you're kinda spitting in the face of everyone that likes the character and in some instances WORSE depending on the type of death...Not saying you can't have it, but it should be considered a last resort and not just something you do for shock value.

Except as an else world story it doesnt rob any characters of anything since the main continuity still exists
I think death can be good for a story and comic stories especially since I prefer death to have meaning and weight rather than a revolving door or turning into plot armour where they can seemingly never die no matter what and those make me numb because one is death will never happen and the other is death doesnt matter so why do i care if they are in a fight ir conflict it has zero stakes
Since death of superman the only place death matters is in else worlds and what ifs
That's why I really love the current runs marvel is doing because they've integrated that into the stories, hulk and his group are now immortal and it is part of the story and gives new things to explore, the x men can resurrect mutants so the focus shifts to their new island home and the dangers to their new country and its place in the world moving forward as a new society like a more interesting genoshia and thor is addressing a character who was mostly forgotten and more of a after thought in a new way

    • @dragonstormx
      @dragonstormx 4 года назад +5

@@1fishmob Not being the main universe Superman isn't an excuse, not when this is a version where the writers don't respect the character. Regime Superman doesn't feel like a man who used to be the world's greatest hero, he feels like a sociopath who was evil from day one. The criticism that Superman is too invincible and will always do the right thing is made by people who aren't familiar with the character. Superman has gotten beaten up plenty of times. Criticizing him for always doing the right thing is unfair when people will praise Batman for doing the right thing, which guess what, is how Injustice depicts Batman. You know, the thing that you said was unrealistic about Superman.
For that matter, making Superman evil and having Batman oppose him isn't even original. It's been done before.
Justice League's For a Better World: Superman and the Justice League go bad. Batman has a change of heart and the rest of the Justice Lords stay the same.
Red Sun: Superman is raised in the USSR. He slowly goes off the deep end. One of the characters who opposes him is Batman. I would also like to point that this story did Superman going too far way better. Superman does extreme things but he doesn't go around leveling cities for petty reasons and gets an actual moment showing he is a Superman where he realizes the error of his ways and saves the Earth. Injustice insisted on Superman being evil.
Kingdom Come: Superman isn't a villain but he is one of the characters written as going too far while Batman is written as being more in the right despite Batman turning Gotham into a police state.
Squadron Supreme: This a Marvel storyline but it has stand ins for the Justice League. Hyperion (Superman) isn't a villain but is the one who is taking the Squadron Supreme (Justice League) too far with their actions. Nighthawk (Batman) is the one who opposes the Squadron. This is another story that did Superman going too far much better than Injustice, Hyperion and the Squadron Supreme don't go around murdering people and their actions are morally gray, even if Nighthawk demonstrates why they are in the wrong.
Dark Knight Returns: Superman is a tool of the US government and reluctantly opposes Batman, who has come out of retirement against the wishes of the government to clean up Gotham.
That is five storylines where Superman goes too far and Batman opposes him. Injustice's premise isn't creative or thought provoking, it's a cliched idea by this point that has already been done better in other storylines without making Superman into a mass murderer. Because making someone a mass murderer isn't realistic since well, most people in real life aren't mass murderers! That kind of attitude is like saying just adding negative traits to characters is in of itself realistic like how The Ultimates made the Hulk into a cannibal and rapist, even though people who are like that in real life are the exception rather than the rule.
Also I can name three storylines that say "What if Superman were evil." There is Irredeemable, where the Superman stand in the Plutonian turns into a villain. The story goes into details on why a Superman would turn evil, instead of simply going bad because of a loved one's death. There is also Martial Law and The Boys, which granted are written by people who hate superheroes so all the superheroes are evil, but my point stands. Superman being evil isn't an original idea. It would be more creative if Batman were the one who turned went bad.

@@1fishmob It's BAD Elseword. It being an Elseworld doesn't mean the creators have free reign to make a bad version of the character. By that logic, audiences shouldn't criticize All Star Batman and Robin because its depiction of Batman as a violent sociopath is just an Elseworld to. But people do criticize it because just like Injustice, it's a version of a character that doesn't add anything new or interesting, it just depicts them as so violent and downright evil that they feel nothing like the version audiences are familiar with.
Making Superman different is what Red Sun and Kingdom Come did. But those versions still felt like Superman. Injustice's Superman doesn't. None of the Regime heroes feel like they were ever heroes in the first place, which is why the premise of the conflict being a clash between heroes doesn't work.
Also making character feel different the main version version is a criticism I have of Batman. The main universe Batman is Superman's friend, but after Superman kills the Joker, rather than trying to help him overcome his loss, all Batman does is criticize under the premise "killing is wrong." This continues into the second game where Batman keeps saying "killing is wrong, always" even against Brainiac. This is especially ridiculous since Batman and Superman have resorted to lethal force in the main universe against threats like say, Brainiac. So have the Green Lanterns. Writing in superhero comics has evolved and heroes accept there is a difference between a common criminal and a planet destroying menace. Injustice however seems completely ignorant of that treats the entire conflict as "killing is wrong or you end turning evil" while offering no alternatives.
And if the games wanted to actually do something new they could have made Batman the villain instead. An evil Batman opposing Superman isn't something we have seen before, but nope, they insist that Batman is the hero.
Just to highlight how done to death the Evil Superman idea is, the movie horror movie Brightburn bombed and was criticized as cliched because critics and audiences have realized "What if Superman was evil" isn't an original concept.

I think quite a lot of the games problems are fixed if it's changed from Prime Earth Batman to Prime Earth Nightwing.
It fixes the problem of Bruce being too important since he is sharing screen time with Nightwing. Not making Batman the most important person to ever exist.
It gives, Superman, Batman, Cyborg, Robin some interesting interactions that isn't possible with another Batman. They don't care that another Batman is here when Batman is still alive. You know what they would care about the guy that is dead that they were close friends with or Bruce having to talk to the son he failed to save. Nightwing gets his name from Superman. I can't believe the game didn't bring that up when they made Robin the new Nightwing.
The ending works better when it is Nightwing bringing Superman in. That's a huge character flaw in every version of Batman. He doesn't really trust people. That prevents him from stopping Superman until his son proves him wrong because Nightwing is in every way the ideal version of who Batman should be.
I am completely biased in this because Nightwing is my favourite character but I think it would have made the story better.

One thing i've always found unsettling about Regime!Superman is the fact that he wears the costume with that red part around the lower body area. Why? When this game was first released, DC Comics recently removed the red trunks from Superman's design, probably because they deemed them "outdated", or they got tired of people making fun of them all the time. It seemed that they were *ashamed* of the trunks, like ever making them an element of the costume was a horrible mistake that they had finally "corrected", even though they remained through all the changes in the world and the comic book landscape, along with Superman's personality and ideals. So, the fact that Warner Bros. and NetherRealm went and gave us a Superman costume with a part that references the trunks with the illusion of wearing them, and attached it to an unrepentantly evil incarnation of the character whom we beat up and thwart with a *good* Superman, who wears the "mature" and "with the times" look that they really wanted to sell back then, comes off as an unreasonable potshot at the Man of Steel's original artist and those who grew up with the old-fashioned design.
Maybe i'm thinking about it too hard, but circumstances of those days made the implications impossible to ignore. It's rather funny though, in hindsight, thanks to the trunks making a glorious comeback a few years ago. And hey, at least they got rid of the false trunks fabric (or paint) in Regime!Superman's Injustice 2 costume.

I feel like that would be way too expensive to invest in. The only Lego thing I can think of that I could maybe discuss is Marvel, because maybe the Avengers one is the same universe as the others.

The4thSnake A line through time on the lego games would be boring and/or a waste of time. Dimensions plucks the characters from whenever with no continuity, apart from maybe Gandalf's part. Even then it doesn't have far reaching effects.
What would be pretty cool is a line through time for half-life/portal....

I think someone might have mentioned this before and was probably mentioned in the Injustice 2 video, but Greek Mythology in DC comics is not really accurate and is followed very very loosely. In this case, Hippolyta and the Amazons were created by the goddesses of Olympus and so no connection to Ares, at least from the version I grew up with. It's also in this version where Hippolyta, fighting alongside Diana under the title Wonder Woman, sacrificed herself to save the Earth from Imperiex during the Imperiex War, ironically, dying in Greece. She was later resurrected by Circe which leads to so many adventures/misadventures until New 52. Her death in the comics is the only reason I could see her being absent and Diana being the new queen of the Amazons.

I love how by the end of the story the flash is just left with fewer and fewer people in the watchtower. Cyborg and superman just peace out and I can imagine that flash is just there alone in the watchtower like well what now
