Devs: when you add effects for the enemy spawning in, I suggest you stagger them slightly, as well as the spawn in time. Not much, but a few fractions of a second can make it feel more organic.
Great idea! I like it!
Thanks for the idea! Already passed to the devs and we'll see what we can improve in the upcoming hotfixes!
@@AnsharPublishing You're welcome. If you have some spare time (devs never have spare time), you could have an algo "randomly" determine the order and timing, within a certain range.
@@EGRJ Developers don't have time or they don't have money - one of those two!
I'm much closer to the second group ;-)
@@AnsharPublishing ive been playing the game for about the past 6 hours and just wanted to let you know that on uneven maps the enemies area attacks show up about 3/4th of the circle. good game tho !
My Friend made music for this whole game! I'm so excited that you revied this one :D
From what I've heard so far, it has a very solid ambiance to it. It reminds me a lot of the Diablo 2 OST, one of my gold standards for soundtracks.
What ua his or her name?
My friend did as well
So your friend is my dad?
@@PapaPercules If he's your dad? Does that mean he's my uncle?
Holy crap, this art style and character design is GOATED
Goddamn the setting concept alone is awesome.
I agree totally. This is a "Dune-ish" concept, and definitely could be the hatching of a universe, worthy of many sequels and prequels. Possibly even spawning movies!
15:59 I love how that random peasant carries his rake like he was trained from birth in a noble house that is dedicated to learning the art of wielding a rake! One minute you are raking leaves, the next y0u are spinning the rake behind your back and going on the attack. lol
I just can't help but wonder why they decided to use cards to represent the different abilities. There didn't really seem to be any card battler mechanics like shuffling, a "graveyard", builder cards, etc.. It seems like they could've just called the different abilities "skills" or "abilities" and instead of decks "builds".
Giving them a uniform, physical, representation makes the burning mechanic feel a bit more cohesive. I don't know that it needed to be cards, though.
Dev card pickle brain. A huge pandemic these days on steam.
Dude splatter choosing the Church guy cuz he looked badass and the Prince because he had the "Let me do it for you" dog had rolling
"Eat the Rich" Graffitied on a wall was a bit of a mood killer. They could have gone with "The third estate is every thing!", "Viva la Revolucion", "Let them eat cake" or any number of other historically accurate sayings from the French Revolution, but they yanked a modern saying straight from a San Francisco side walk. Also, while I guess its not impossible for a voodoo tribe to have been in 1780's Paris, I can't help but feel Romani or Cagots would have made a lot more sense if you wanted a persecuted minority in 1700's France.
Yeah missed opportunity
"when the people shall have nothing more to eat, they will eat the rich" credited to jean jacques rousseau, this resulted in "eat the rich" becoming a popular slogan painted on walls during the french revoltion. no, i'm not that knowledgeable of that period, but i did know that food was one of the big issues, so i looked it up. I never knew the saying was that old!
@@adomuir2239 really it's that old of a saying?
@@adomuir2239 I was also pondering that one factor in the ancien-regime's delegitimacy was a famine that struck in the middle 1780s
I was intrigued enough to look it up, but a tatterdemalion is defined as a ragamuffin, or someone wearing rags/tattered clothing. So I'd think a common brute or ruffian in this context. Yep, learned a new word today
What in the brit
I get what they were going for but it just looks...not ready yet.
Wow! Who new that 18th century France was so diverse! The devs really did their research!
The definitive feel of grind. (Classic Splat)
Always brining us epic games! Thanks Splat!
Dang'it Splat, this one looks really good and is going on the list.
So over the last two days you're two for two, well done bro.
For those that like an alternate French revolution style. Try the book series The Powder Mage. The first book is Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan.
I love that the Church npc actually had the gall to say to the voodoo priestess "why the skulls around your waist huh?" while literally wearing a skull on his waist as well! First introduction to the chuch establishes them as hypocrites. 100% accurate and perfect design there! 🤣
Yupp typical religious behaviour.
There's huge difference in having human skull and demon skull as your trophy. How can that part fly over your head is beyond me. One's otherworldly being most likely associated as enemy and something against humanity, while the other is literally humans. I'm sure the voodoo priestess has her own reasons for having skulls on her belt, i.e her ancestors or previous priests being a warding off power or something similar. But no matter how you cut it, a human asking another human why they got a human skull on them is perfectly valid question, since there's possibility of murder. That's like a human walking into a town of hunters with human skulls on his belt, while all the hunters have deer skulls on their belts. Surely you're not an NPC yourself that seeks out such simplistic narrative as "church bad, anti church good" and "bourgeoisie bad, rebels good", right?
I could look at that menu screen artwork for days. There's a lot going on there.
this is exactly how im going to imagine the heros fighting back the darkness in Shadows of Forbidden gods now
Good lord, this is a a wh40k backwater planet that became a playground for Chaos.
What an interesting story premise. I've seen stuff like this before, but then again I've been immersed in table top RPGs for almost three decades at this point. You see a thing or two.
0:40 So the French Revolution?
In other words, what happens when the Geller Field cracks but over Paris rather than around a spaceship
Your content is awesome splattercat! Keep up the good work!
makes me think of Anatole France's The Revolt of the Angels
That`s why 95% of goodrevolts die, cus ppl will join side depending on prefered dog breed preference.
ur a real Legend, Splat!
Ok now THIS one is a BANGER
Yes please
*edit*
I was SOO on board until you said "deck building" I'm done with deck building games 😢
Not sure what you changed, but the game volume is equal to your commentary for the first time in a long time.
Pleas keep the current audio setup! Love it!
The concept is really interesting; I love the 2D assets and the voices. Reminds me a bit of Abyss Odyssey.
The 3D character models & character textures look really bland though. The enemy spawns definitely need to be tweaked; even a magical portal or puff of smoke would be better than them *just appearing*.
Awesome! Thanks for the video! If you have any questions about the game - we're here! :)
Ori voice is very nice.
We don't battle against flesh and blood but in the spirit.
I like the 2D dialogs on top of the 3D gameplay. Really cool game.
Whoa I love the artwork in this game!
The very first second of the video i thought that person in white with the sword is michael jackson...
Glad to hear the combat is better, that got me to pass on this when I tried it probably around the same time. Holding off on these types of games for now because Diablo, but will keep an eye on this one. The concept, setting and art style are pretty remarkable.
I absolutely love the art for this game. I need to go look up who did all of it. The characters are just fantastic.
Huh... Tatterdemalion must've been a word of the day because I favorited in my dictionary, but I definitely have no memory of doing so. I had the exact same response when you saw the word.
Just bought it based on this vid. Can't wait to dive in! Thanks Splat!
Well, hate to say but I just refunded. Controls are SUPER floatly at times and it's frustrating when in a battle. Otherwise game seemed cool, lots of clipping graphically though, and that's a bit distracting. Definitely needs some work. Might revisit in the future.
Did you play with a keyboard or a controller? Was hoping that maybe with a controller the games feels better if I bought it ..
@@ernestvanrossum8166 I did not. I have a disability, so I have to use a controller. Unfortunately, it seems like it may be lie that with either keyboard and mouse or controller. I can’t say for sure.
That's so disappointing
@@GameTimeWhy it may just be me though. I hate to dissuade anyone else from trying a new game. I almost didn’t post about it as I didn’t want people to see my comments and not buy it. You may have a completely different experience and love it.
So Splat choose first the church and then the monarchy . He says it's for the doggie but I don't buy it, aristocrat sympathiser ! To the guillotine ! :D
After Steelrising, I hope this is a new trend, medieval fantasy is good and all but different time periods can be cool too and the French revolution is a great "time of troubles" setting
Dumb thought, on the move speed. Just make it easier to change from fast and slow. Like, hold the dodge key to ‘run’
And make the slow animation feel more “careful”, so the speed matches the feel
A absolutely love the baldurs gate voice actor I will play this game just for that gives me nostalgic tingling
The game might be a 1.0, but it still not finished yet. The more he talks about it, the less I wanna play it.
I feel like we need dialogue spoken in French with animatrics to have characters mouth along to those words.
English should be clearly dubbed and subtitled.
What we have here are placeholders in my opinion.
Yeah i wanted to play it but it has mixed reviews on steam
I ll wait a little bit to mature
Honestly, it's a breathe of a fresh air to see bourgeoisie representative being represented as a populist whose system is too big to enact rapid change, and rebel as someone who's really only interested in rapid change, who spits on idea of courts and openly invokes violence and thunderbolts as "anything for the cause" mentality. I haven't played the game so I don't know the stories, I only go by what I've seen in this video, but holy f*ck does it get real boring real fast when French bourgeoisie is represented with the "Let them eat cake" mentality with no nuance what so ever. I like my characters morally gray as are people in real life. Bourgeoisie being over all benevolent but with sin of pride (I want to help but I'm the one who's going to fix the problem because I'm best) and rebels being for change but with sin of rage (I want the change now and I don't care if innocent heads roll) is a nice way of world building. Not sure I could say the same thing about the Voodoo vs Church segment though, in the start it really reeked of "Muh oppressed people that are misunderstood" with some splicing of blacks I guess representing gypsies in that day's Europe. I hope that the narrative is deeper than oppressor vs oppressed and Voodoo boys get some serious flaws along with the Church. It wasn't engaging when Mass Effect did their dumb Paragon vs Renegade and it's never going to be engaging if it's simple.
you truly are one of a kind, you have cost me and my friends alot of money 😄
For an event taking place in Paris during the French Revolution, not a lot of Frenchified speach going on... awesome game though!
love your videos watch them every day, but pls turn game volume up any time you're not talking like you did for the beginning dialogue. unless I'm wearing my m50xs or have my audio playing uncomfortably loud I can't hear it at all 90% of the time. thanks for all the effort tho, don't know anyone else with daily uploads. appreciate you lmao
Will have to try it but based on what I'm seeing it doesn't look much more clunky than most hack'n'slash like Diablo or Torchlight. It does seem to delay ability combining longer than some of the best like Grim Dawn but other than that I feel like autoclick clunkiness is sort of expected in the hack'n'slash genre. I feel like the Hades comparison is slightly unfair as Hades is outright a character action game.
Just to be clear it does look clunky but par for the course for the genre (which is meant to be an incentive to combo your abilities and manage your cooldowns) ! Does look weak in a few aspects however and I can't really say I see the appeal of a roguelite hack'n'slash when it's already a genre built so much around replayability.
Okay definitely adding this to my wishlist
Are your videos being shadow banned for some reason? I just realized it's been a while since I've seen one of your videos pop up, and when I started looking unless I searched your name specifically, I couldn't find you anywhere. Usually, if I go to the gaming tab, your videos are the top selection because I watch you more than anyone when it comes to gaming. It's extra weird cause I'm subscribed and have all notifications active.
Rooooobert! Spaghetti!
Hmm, this game has the potential to be great so I will reserve my judgement and may get it if there is huge improvement.
That character Victor towards the beginning reminded me of one of the Baldur's Gate voices. Might have been Kevin Michael Richardson?
man, this had so much going for it, until i saw the cards......
Damn... was an hour late to the vid-drop fiesta for this upload today because I was too busy to get around to watching yesterday's drop on yesterday's time 🙃
Better late than never, eyy Sir Splat? EHH MR. MATT?! 😅
Well to be fair, the French revolution wasn't actually about what were told.
I find that Schama does pretty well as its historian.
LIBERTAAAAAYYY
Basically how Edmund Burke thought the world was 😮
Clunky? Slap soulslike on the genre tag!
21:43 maybe you can target farm doing these daily favors? 🤔
So, this is the actual French Revolution?
The premise is outstanding, the static art is crazy good. the gameplay looks EXTREMELY mid and terribly grindy, and procedurally generated (in the bad way). Imagine this setting mixed with an RPG like Greedfall. OMG that would be epic. As it is this is just Roguelite #923498 that I'm going to ignore.
Gungen did it best with enemy spawn in
Well sadly Style and Concept are not all a Game needs but the base is damm solid.
58 seconds in, and I've already wishlisted this one. That description alone...
Dear game developers. Stop using cards in every game!
the audio mix is very hades
You had me until the random deck building came in.
Same here
If they work on this then this would be good I think.
Got here pretty early! Looks exciting:) always like religious French people
After watching it, I agree with you, if they can smooth everything out it’ll look very very exciting:)
Not a fan of RLE or meta progression but the premise is strong enough I may have to get this one
This game would rip with Hades-level combat. It's got too much jank in it to succeed, imo. The writing isn't going to carry it, alone.
Good, constructive critizism. I really like this game in concept. Like the deck building faction lvl up with cool characters and different playstyles are very appealing to me. Clunky combat fluidity and slow progression are really holding this back.. also the repeating "tile" was a bummer to see. 😢
TBF Hades had all the time the same time tiles every run almost, so I don't think it's the issue that hold me back the most.
But definitely this clunkiness is it's biggest flaw combat is , the rest is awesome
@@ernestvanrossum8166 I was thinking the same, but then I realised surely it wouldn’t take that much to code it so a tile doesn’t repeat on the one immediately after. You wouldn’t really see that in Hades.
@@ernestvanrossum8166 I guess you're right on that one. But the level of polish of the tiles in Hades played a huge role for replayability. They were quite seamless. For me I only ever felt the sense of repetition on a specific tile in the lava level. Its tough to get that seamless feeling with this artstyle and more realistic lighting with so many different objects in scene. Its not a fair comparison but it iis what is iis 😅
Hey this looks cool, I---
> Deck
OK, next.
Ori voice actor had the potential to be good but she’s kinda monotonous the other guy was on point.
You really missed an opportunity to say that you didn't pick based on ideology, but on dogma... XD
That title splash art is a good idea but, they haven't got it quite right. All of the inserted characters stand out a lot, I feel like if they're going for the edited classical art approach like that, they really NEED TO nail the painting.
Like, if you can tell they aren't from the original painting, not because of the designs, but because of the actual... I suppose, style? Quality? I'm not sure the right word to use. But the 'new' stuff doesn't match the, sort of photorealistic approach. That's a problem, it NEEDS to blend in or it just doesn't work.
The girl being carried I'm pretty sure is inserted, and she's harder to tell than the others, but still not quite right.
Also I feel like the voice acting should REALLY be in French.
Autoattack based cooldowns might be a reason to make me try it, I haven't seen it yet. I love the art/setting, but the game on top seems slightly meh?
Edit: Daily quests? Wtf
Nice!
The story and art look great, but I'm not a fan of "deckbuilder" mechanics/skills being represented as cards or the rogue-lite gameplay. Kinda wish this was a normal APRG with permanent progress and skill trees.
Steampunk Shadowrun
Wait? Wasn't that what almost actually happened? I mean it started out as "class struggle" - but then... for a time there is was basically pure insanity with factions attacking and executing each other over some PRETTY dubious reasons... It went on for a LONG time - from 5. May 1789 to 9. November 1799 - so 10½ years - and then there was the French Revolutionary Wars which lasted from 20. April 1792 to 27. March 1802 - which in many ways can be considered a "mini world war" where France fought ... well here is the list copy pasted from Wiki
Catholic and Royal Armies

What if Robespierre went off the deeper end, but when he reached the bottom he went "Lmao bet!"
What if Robespierre was killed because he wasn't extreme and antitheist enough?
For your algorithm
its pretty okay
Ugh, what's with all the indie games cramming deckbuilders into any conceivable game concept? Also, battle does indeed look super clunky.
@@Ankhtowe You must work for Blizzard. The facts are completely opposite than what you have stated. "a collective, parasitical mass" is also not very imaginative. Time to buy a thesaurus.
@@Ankhtowe Indie games are better than AAA with all their loot boxes and pay to win mechanics.
@@Ankhtowe You’re entitled to your opinion, but I’m curious. How does someone with a distaste for indies end up here, on a channel that does nothing but cover indies?
I mean, it was not too long ago every game was cramming in RPG level up and gear systems needlessly. Game development follows trends, for better or worse. Especially if a game that uses something atypical gains massive popularity.
👍🏻👍🏻
🖤
what happaned... just a minute ago i saw a different video uploaded
If you like eldritch god interfering theme, you should try Shadows of Forbidden Gods. It takes it to a new level. Think full release is in about one month too.
He has a video on that one allready ;)
I think he did 2 videos on it, but yea, awesome game, we need more like it.
ruclips.net/video/m6zosVjqGkY/видео.html
Man I really want to like that game, but I feel like all I'm doing is hitting the end turn button.
Hon hon hon!
I wish the setting was actually part of the gameplay and not just an asset and skinning resource.
I wish the game's raison d'être was actually evident in the factions and systems
I mean, we have church officials and Parisian partisans speaking .. modern English? Having the dialogue in French with subtitles would help to make the setting plus it would make localization super easy, since all dialogue would be in text. Also - go try to speak English to a Parisian.
So the epic battle between elder gods uses humans as clandestine foot soldiers, okay, got it, can dig it. So - what? How does that affect the game other than maybe a cutscene somewhere? If it does not affect the gameplay, then... ?
We only saw one faction, so we don't know if the others are all that different, but from the commentary there didn't seem to be too much difference. It seemed the deck types were more different, which is a shame and a waste. You have four opposing forces; order vs chaos and spiritualism vs secularism. Each faction occupies one part of that square. If the gameplay worked off of those themes, it could be awesome. For instance; say you have an area progression choice like Slay the Spire or FTL, where you choose branching paths. Maybe order factions (state & church) can only use the standard connections but chaos factions (rebels & vodoun) have ways to hop between different paths, go backwards, or swap the aspects of different nodes. If the connections represent city streets, then the hops and other connections can be things like alleyways and sewers. No church morality patrol would stoop to sloshing through the sewers, but a rebel cohort certainly would. Super play up the identity and character of the factions and translate it in to game systems and features.
Immediate reaction here... Looks a lot like BG3. I'm impressed by the graphics, and the story intrigues me. The combat looks a lot like Diablo.
Why is Michael Jackson on the start screen for this game?
Does this game support ps4 or xbox controller for steam play?
i dont get it, why should enemies need to conceal in water or behnd a door when the gods themselves are literally just putting their marionettes on the battlefield... as though they would appear via magic.....
Deck builder HARD pass.
Not a fan of rogues or souls or any of that crap what makes you lose your progress. But this has me interested regardless, talk about an original idea. 👍👍
Matter of taste, but I personally hate "card" based games. This RNG luck kind of randomness isn't attractive to me. I wanna know exactly what I get when I level up or the skills I'm CERTAIN to apply.
I wish i could play this game, but my hatred for anything related to france won't let me.
Understandable, but on the plus side, most of the foes you get to kill are french or at least in France so that might help.
@@hamanu666 How about if we love France but hate Paris?
