So if Joyboy really was the first pirate, then how would it make sense for the Ancient Kingdom to be run like a pirate crew when pirates weren't even a thing yet?

Maybe Joyboy became a pirate as an answer for union of the 20 countries against the Ancient Kingdom, he was the leader of the rebellion but it was not succesful. "Pirate" may be the same things as "terrorist" or "rebel" in the eyes of the World Gouvernment. 🤷

1) It is clearly stated by Vegapunk that Joy Boy is a character who was BORN in an ALREADY advanced kingdom.
2) Joy Boy is a real life person. Nika is a myth - people in the world of One Piece believe in a sun god named Nika. It was never mentioned, that Nika is a character from ancient times. If Vegapunk‘s theory of devilfruits is correct, then the Nika fruit is a consequence of people‘s beliefs in a god named Nika (and Joyboy and Luffy awakened this fruit).

Imu means Inertial Measurement Unit. This terminology is widely used in intrumentation, referring to gyroscopes and accelerometers. They basically work by generating really small currents which are amplified and made quantifiable. An accelerometer constantly senses how much of an acceleration is it under, regardless of whether it is moving or not since it is always under the effect of earth's gravity. You can change its readings by applying external acceleration. Similarly a gyroscope tells you about your orientation. Both of these features are available in most smartphones. VR works using gyroscopes. This has absolutely nothing to do with Imu from one piece.

From a Doylist perspective (author perspective), yes obviously it's modeled after Dante's Inferno. But from a Watsonian perspective (in-story perspective), the theme might have come from the nature of the Gorosei, which is what Artur is talking about here.

Mock town and its role in this chapter really reminded me why I fell in love with One Piece. Oda is, for me, the greatest author in human history. This is an island full of jerks, but it is not hatred that I feel for them, rather, pity. Oda may pick all the tropes from around the world, but the way he uses them in his story is unique. He is going to be remembered well by posterity.

I'm a fan of the channel here in Brazil. Unfortunately, life imitates art, and vice versa. In the south of our country, there is a huge unprecedented flood that has destroyed almost an entire state (Rio Grande do Sul). There is a big discussion about climate factors in the world today, and we are starting to feel these impacts in my country and around the world. Therefore, reading this chapter resonated with me in a sad way. Vegapunk is a scientist who resonates with the researchers and scientists of our world. It's trying to warn the world of the dangers to come, and our government only thinks about protecting itself or doesn't do much about it. Oda manages to capture and bring this feeling to his works, which I think is fantastic.
Thanks for your work too, as it deepens the reading we have with One Piece.

I never heard the A&Mu = Atlantis & Mu connection before, but that instantly made me think about the ending of "Esteban, Child of the Sun", an anime that 100% inspired Oda to write One Piece when he was young.
Taking place in the real world during the grand age of piracy, they reveal at the end of that show that long before that, two ancient, but highly advanced kingdoms existed, Atlantis and Mu. Even tough they were at opposite sides of the globe, they fought each other and ultimately destroyed each other. Suspecting this outcome, one of the kingdoms (I think it was Mu) managed to preserve their technology inside mysterious cities of gold, hidden all around the world. They were also connected to the moon somehow, which had it´s own race of evil aliens.
The whole show focused on finding one city of gold in South America (like the famous expeditions in real life). To find that one, Esteban and his friends had to find 4 special locations first and connect them on a map to form an X that marks the spot. Sounds familiar?
Even better, one of Estebans friends was a girl, who was the sole survivor of an indigenous group of people, that were slaughtered by spanish invaders, so now she´s the last person on earth that knows how to translate the ancient language needed to find the city of gold.
Esteban himself was pretty much just Luffy. He went on an adventure with his friends, freed opressed people and ultimately brought joy and laughter everywhere he went. The tribespoeple all around called him the prophezised "child of the sun", I mean come on.
Don´t even get me started on Miguel aka "Spanish Shanks", who inspired Esteban to become an adventurer and gave him one half of a sun medallion, which Esteban always visibly carried on him. There was even a time in the anime were it was unclear wether Miguel was a good guy or in cahoots with the WG aka Spain.
They also traveled on a boat with a goat figurehead, which then got destroyed by a giant waterstream so they changed to a bigger boat with better technology and a lion figurehead (I´m not joking). They eventually switch to a flying golden condor, so I´m just waiting for something similar to come.
Oh, and there was also a tribe of female-only warriors, an island in the sky, giants, a giant golden Poneglyph, the opening scene was set in a bar,.....

@@Josuegurrola It was/is a french production, written by Jean Chalopin and Bernard Deyries. It`s very loosely based on the book "The King`s Fifth".
The first season (which tells everything I wrote about above) was coproduced by a japanese animationstudio and aired in 1982 in both Europe and Japan. I watched this like a decade later in german btw.
The same french authors who originally wrote the first season continued the show in 2014 with 2 more seasons, I think. Those weren`t animated in Japan though and are 3D, so....

Saturn is like level one with the spikes and poisonous spiders, Mars is level 2 with the wild beasts (basilisk-esque), Jupiter is level 3 with the sand/sandworm, Walcury is level 4 since we seen now he can seemingly create raging infernos, and V.Nusjuro is level 5 with his freezing ice blade. Imu is level 6? The eternal hell? Hopelessness? Hidden from the world?

My theory is that A in A&Mu refers to Alber - King. We know he was experimented on by the World Government. So it is entirely possible that Vegapunk, through these experiments, found out how to replicate said flames. He's already done it with the Seraphim, so it's not out of the question. This would leave Mu. As mentioned in the video, I do believe this refers to Imu. Some way some how, Vegapunk came into possession of something Imu related. Through this, he combined the flames of Lunarians and Imu to create the Mother Flame. My headcanon is that he got a drop of Imu's lineage factor, and that the liquid in the tank is actually Green Blood, synthesized from Imu herself. It's what has allowed the Seraphim to have Devil Fruit powers, as well as contain the flames of the Lunarians. I think Imu is Mother Nature Herself, and that she is connected to, or the source of the Devil Fruits. That would explain three things: What the Garden Imu hangs out in is all about, how the Green Blood works, and why the Mother Flame is called what it is.

I called the Lunarian flame and mother flame theory a few weeks ago! I believe they got wiped out by Imu for that energy source whilst on the Red Line and that Alber was part of the research to recreate it.

A&Mu refer to Atlantis and Mu Civilization, the mother flame is Lunarian Life energy, to extract Life energy from a Lunarian to create mother flame which is a power source. the Uranus can only activated using Lunarian power, Imu cannot use Uranus because they hunted down the Lunarian (that also eliminate the chance the uranus being used to attack the WG). BUT by Vegapunk's help Imu can use Uranus NOW, Imu don't need Lunarian slave.. he already have the power source and the ammo to obliterate anything.. I suspect Mu is descendants of the remnants from Mu Civilization.. and he/she may possess great knowledge.. and he used to be friend of Joyboy or Nika.. until.. things get complicated..

I think maybe the odd construction of Impel Down is an indicator of the rising sea levels. Maybe centuries ago the only level was the 6th floor (which could have been the original 1st floor), and over time as the sea levels rose, the government added the additional floors to keep it from sinking below the surface as well as add additional cells for prisoners.
I think the white form for gear 5 is the base hybrid form and the red form we seen when luffy got hungry with bonney in egghead when they first arrived is the full awakening form with the mother flame. 2:20

I think you are wrong about the comparison of the Mother Flame with a nuclear reactor. Nuclear reactors generate energy thanks to the "nuclear fission", not "nuclear fusion". The Mother Flame is a nuclear fusion reactor, which works just the same way the Sun and the rest of stars do. This technology is still being developed by us, we didn't achieve it yet.
Joyboy is a title like many people call Luffy Straw Hat. His true name hasn’t been revealed but I believe his name has a D initial but his middle name was pronounced the leaders of the Ancient kingdom was the legendary D clan

I like to imagine, that when One Piece eventually finishes, we ´ll get the entire anime/manga in one piece. The full story from beginning till the end with nothing filling the inbetween. And when the One Piece is revealed in the manga, theyˋll simultaneously reveal the One Piece to the real world. The size and or price would probably be ridiculous, thus making it funny? TLDR: I want One Piece in one piece.

I think the eternal energy is the soul, and Luffy completing his dream involves connecting everyone in the world under the banner of "freedom" and harnessing this soul energy. Maybe this soul energy is what created the devil fruits because those came from desires. The mother flame might be Joy Boy's soul or maybe Nefertari D. Lili's soul - doesn't look that different from Brook's lost soul.

Further note: Daedalus was the architect of the labyrinth in the island of Crete ruled by King Minos. The King Minos suspected that Daedalus and Icarus may have leaked the info about how to escape the labyrinth to King Theseus since he escaped the labyrinth. The King Minos imprisoned them in the labyrinth or an tower overlooking the sea. This draws more parallel to Vegapunk creating the Mother Flame, learning about Void Century and more or less imprisoned in a tower (Labophase) overlooking the sea.

What if joyboy was some kind of scientist, and a fan of this fictional nika. And when whatever happened during the void century made him “create” the first devil fruit, the nika fruit, in order to defeat the evil forces just like his hero. (Like vegapunk theorized devil fruits are created from people desires)
I have always seen the Mother Flame reprenting nuclear power. Vegapunk resembles Einstein could represent the time he regrets the creation of atom bomb, although Einstein was not as involved as Vegapunk.
I think the back story is quite simple, Joy Boy was just like Luffy and wanted explore the seas, he traveled around the world making friends along the way, which might be how he met the ancient mermaid princess, Lily, Zunesha, etc. In short, Joy Boy and his adventures are no different to Luffy's but with a bad ending. Heck, maybe the D are nothing more than the people who became friends of Joy Boy and decided to follow his will, like the self proclaimed Luffy's grand fleet, Vivi being an straw hat or Oden's scabbards. I don't get why some people think he was the ancient kingdom's king, it has never been hinted, if anything he just wanted to leave the country (maybe Oden's life is a hint of Joy Boy's life as well)

I know it’s one piece and a manga and anime, but it technically makes no sense that the ties would rise with the destruction of an island since there is usually an a hole in the water where the water will fall into. It would make more sense that tides would actually lower… but it’s for plot I suppose

I think with this chapter we've visited every single major location in the story during this message, plus a few extras. The only ones I think we’ve yet to see are Skypiea, Little Garden, and maybe Wano but they're all special cases. It's fascinating that Vegapunk makes mention of Icarus' wings because Vegapunk himself could've just as easily been inspired by Daedalus, the inventor of the labyrinth in Greek myth and Icarus' father. Also the creator of the wax wings that killed Icarus. It makes so much sense that Joy Boy would be the first pirate. Now I want to do research on who the "first pirate" in real life is. And I really hope in chapter 1115 we get people who know Luffy to make the connection that Joy Boy's ability sounds like Luffy's powers. Maybe even Luffy going "Hey that sounds like me". I really want the Mother Flame to either be a weird color like green or purple or be constantly shifting colors. But honestly, I think my favorite part of the chapter is Doflamingo making fun of Magellan for wanting to protect his precious prison. Is anyone else suspicious that they focused on Shalria, Charlos' sister? Is the implication with Shalria that the Gorosei are keeping the existence of the VC from the CDs or is the implication that they don't care? Could she turn into another "good" celestial dragon? And I was so happy to see Saul again!

Seeitng as VegaPunk is the rival of the Greeks(the Elders and Imu), I feel like he is forewarning everyone that not only he will "vanish" due to the Gorosei but also a large majoriy of the world, as Imu cares nothing about the others, just imo
Oda´s writting is something else... As Oppenheimer was refered to as a Prometheus, Oda´s Einstein here is also linked to a greek myth. Blows my mind how he is managing to talk about: politics, world climate, dreams and ideals, funny stuff, science, and do it all non stop. Truly a genius person. We are seeing literature history here. My thoughts & opinions of the chapter:
1. Assuming Hancock & the others who were with her in chapter 1059 weren't seen or mentioned in this chapter, perhaps there's at least a slim chance for any of them meet Luffy before leaving Egghead ends and/or heading to Elbaf.
2. It's no surprise that Oda deliberately had Vegapunk be partially clueless on these details. However, it does made me wonder if Robin will end up revealing the rest on his behalf.
3. When reading the part about how Vegapunk mentioned that Joy Boy had Rubber powers, I am curious if anyone will try connecting Luffy to his ancient predecessor?! Who knows, perhaps the Barto Club might be the 1st people to connect the dot!
