As a European guy traveling to the US for the first time in my life, Longhorn Steak House blew me out of the water. The steaks are always perfect. I ended up going 5+ times and no matter what, it was always 10/10.
Hahahahaha you went 5 times!? That’s so funny to me. As a working class American longhorn is my go to steak house if I do go out because I’ve had the same result as you pretty much. It’s pretty affordable and a good product. The bread is fire too!
Guga definitely has the money at this point in his career to open one. I think it’d be pretty great, especially if the menu features a few of his most successful dry-age experiments, compound butters, and side dishes. It’d be interesting to see how they set up the grill station in the kitchen, because people eating at his restaurant are going to expect their steaks cooked the way Guga does it with the constantly rotating charcoal grill.
I think it's garbage, at least ours is. Never impressed by the texture, taste, and temperature of our steaks. I've stopped going there because it's so bad
Guga just saved me a couple hundred dollars. For about a year I’ve been thinking of going to a Ruth’s Cris about an hour away. Here in Canada, that steak he ordered is $132 Canadian. I’ll buy a wagyu steak and cook it at home instead and it’ll be much cheaper.
Good call. And imo wagyu isn't worth it either if you've tried it before, I mean it's definitely very good and unique, but if you can get multiple prime (or better, dry aged prime) steaks for the cost of a wagyu steak, that's what I'm choosing every time
Hey Guga, I work at a steakhouse myself in a city where a longhorn just opened up, we lost our best cooks to it. They’re still my friends and as such I’ve been told about some practices. The steak you ordered, the outlaw ribeye, was cooked on the charcoal grill. Any steak with a bone in it as well as the New York is cooked there; other boneless steaks I.e. 12 oz. Ribeye, sirloins and filet mignon are cooked on the flat top where they’re basted with butter.
They call the grill those bone in steaks are cooked on the "Char grill" but it is actually a gas flame range with grill grates above it. No charcoal involved. I worked at Longhorn for a few years.
There are two in my city. One has been good every time for the few dozen times I've been there. At the other I got a significantly overcooked steak the two times I went, and I never went back.
They were perfect when I was a broke college student. It was affordable for a steak house and occasionally when you and your friends are just craving red meat, it was always solid for the price. I will say as we got jobs and learned about higher end steakhouses though, we haven't gone back in like over a decade now.
The best steak I've had from a restaurant in a long time was at Carrabba's. The Ribeye was so flavorful that I ended up not even eating the delicious Marsala sauce that I got on the side. If Longhorn is a 7.2 (totally fair score) I would give Carrabba's an 8.0.
Whenever I'm out of town and hungry. I go to Longhorns. Is it the best, no. But the service is usually A+. Best steaks I eat are made at home. I learned how to sous vide from guga. Best method, imo, to cook steak

Having said that, the ones I make at home are always much better thanks to YOU GUGA!! You have elevated my steak game big time in the years of watching your videos! I have been to Ruth Chris several times, which was definitely disappointing.
Longhorn's steaks are great. My wife and I went to Ruth's Chris one time....and that was the last time. Their ribeye was awful (also ordered medium rare and it came medium to medium well), noad no flavor at all, their sides had no flavor (sweet potato fries), and the bread was flavorless. Extremely disappointed in Ruth's Chris. If you are ever in Tampa, you have to go to Bern's Steak House, and don't forget to visit the desert section. Their Turkish coffee is to die for as well. Plan on spending top dollar as well (more than Ruth's Chris), but it is well worth the experience. Enjoyed the reviews. Keep 'em coming!
Also Guga if you have one near you i recommend trying Gyu Kaku , it's a Japanese BBQ Chain that serves wagyu amongst other things , you'll definitely leave full and not break the bank. I recommend reviewing them on your next steak episode if possible.
The longhorn steakhouse is amazing. outlaw rib eye with Parmasean crust. Side of French Onion Soup. Appetizer of steakhouse Chicken wings. Is the best way to spend disposable income.
Same here, Ruth Chris was very disappointing; "especially for the price." And I found that some of the mid range Steakhouses are better than the more "Exclusive" Steakhouses. Great video.
I feel so vindicated after watching this. The first and only time I went to the Ruth Chris in St. Pete FL, my steak was just like this. Had a bitter burnt flavor, was overcooked, and took way too long to chew, didn't seem like a prime cut to me, oh and I burnt my fingers too lol. It drives me mad when I hear people claiming they're so good. Massive waste of money going there. I'd recommend Bascoms Chop House over them any day.
I've always found that the "high end" restaurants are overpriced slop. look for a popular non franchise steakhouse, they're always great. They don't rely on flooding the market with lots of locations or the "brand recognition" like the fancy places.
The only place I have ever went and had a decent steak was at a local place called RiverFront in Kingsport, TN. I've never ate at a longhorn, so now its on the bucket list.
Once we learned how to properly cook steaks at home we slowly started to realize that just about every place under seasons the steak and does not baste in butter. Butter basting is a must for us. We no longer get steaks out because we always say we can make better at home. I am also a firm believer that if you need any kind of sauce on a steak then you have not had good steak.
That is true but personally I love A1 and it makes even a bad steak taste great. Sure, on the rare occasions I get a great piece of meat cooked and seasoned well, I skip it but why suffer through or waste a bad steak if I could make it great with a little A1 and enjoy myself?
Facts , if i don't go to Longhorn or Texas roadhouse i much rather eat steak at home. Ive had a few fancier places like Gyu kaku and some local spots that served good steak but i only go to these places on special occasions.

The fact that you've had such good experiences at these places is surprising to me. I've been to most of these and have not had such consistent or quality steaks. When i go, I didn't order steaks anymore.
I totally agree. I have been to Ruth Chris a couple of times and I was totally disappointed. We were out one night and we actually met a chef from Ruth Chris , he told us that there is a reason nobody or very few people are dining there. 🤮🤮
I am 100% with you on Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. I went there once, never went back. I can forgive an "off" experience and give a second chance to a restaurant, but not with my experience there. There were five of us. None of the steaks were cooked to the right temperature. They were all grey and lacked seasoning. They all appeared to have been cooked from frozen. And they were so small? The sides were mediocre. And the check was insanely ridiculous. I think people who don't know go there because they think that is what good food is, just because they pay more for it. I can produce a superior steak purchased over the counter at a local grocery store on a random charcoal grill at any public park and spend a quarter of the money. I've done it repeatedly. Let the sheeple have Ruth's Chris.
@@cbirdman I disagree. Restaurants like this have strict quality and production standards. And at that price point, they should be enforced rigorously. You should get the same quality at every Ruth's Chris with very little deviation. I don't think it is the chef. I think it is perspective.
@@thomabb I disagree as well. I’ve eaten at many highly rated steak houses across the country. My perspective is just fine and I know a good steak. This is proving what I have always known, that Longhorn is by the far the best of the cheap chain steakhouses. I'm glad you're not doing these all in one video. This way you actually get to go more in depth with each place.
There are 2 Ruth Chris locations where I live, and each one is hit or miss. I don;t like the fact that my steak keeps cooking while I'm eating it, and it becomes unenjoyable by the end (medium well...). The Longhorn in my area can't cook a NY strip to save their lives, but they do okay on Ribeye. Not sure why. Wonder of Saltgrass will make the list of places Guga will try...
A long time ago (when it was still open) I was at Ruth's Chris in San Francisco and had a Petit Filet (medium rare) with the amazing Mac & Cheese. The filet was perfect, too because it was very round, almost the shape of a baseball. It was super rare at the center and cutting it in that sizzling butter was amazing.
Guga the true connoisseur of steak. One day I will jump across the pond looking for him to cook one of his experiments for me! Tonight I am eating a 800gm Cote de boeuf! Medium rare of course. Just mixed veg and treble cooked chips (thick fries).
Guga, I love you even more now for that honest review. I adore Longhorn. You even ordered my go-to meal. I ate at Berns, Old Hempstead, Peter Luger's Gallagher's, Ruth Chris and Smith & Wollensky. Longhorn taste just as good or even better. 😊
I was a sous chef at ruths chris. The "bbq shrimp" is made with a bbq compound butter that they prep there and white wine. Also, whoever cooked that steak missed the mark on seasoning. They teach a heavy hand on seasoning. Good steaks, but not a charcoal cooked steak, so not as good as it could be. I also prefer charcoal.
Longhorn used to go heavy on the seasoning - it was so good. Nowdays I have to get cranking on the salt grinder to get it up to snuff. That's probably my only real complaint with them.
Crazy because I’ve never had a meal ever cooked properly at every longhorn I’ve ever been to in my life. I’m jealous yall have had such good experiences. Now that means I’ve only gone like 5-6 times but every time they drop the ball.
Love your videos Guga!!! My wife actually asked me last night if we could watch something other than “The Guga Guy” as she said lol Can’t wait till I get a replacement grill/smoker so I can get back to making steaks in the Guga fashion.
Last time I got chicken tenders at Longhorn, I threw up that night about 9 times in 7 hours or so. Couldn't sleep at all and every hour got up sick again all night long. Maybe it was just coincidence but for me that was enough to not get the chicken there anymore.
Guga's experiance at Ruth Chris was my same experience. Bland steak that was extremely overpriced and mid , i never went back. I much rather go to my local Longhorn or Texas Roadhouse . The steaks are reasonably priced and taste way better imo.
Guga… if you ever visit the UK, you must try Hawksmoor steak house in London + make sure to try their creamed spinach. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had..!
You guys in the US are so lucky with food prices... In the UK that shrimp starter would be what we could get as a main course and would likely cost £30. A starter dish that size here would be to share! Also, any rib-eye steak here is 8/10oz and would still cost over £20, a 20oz Rib-Eye if you can get one would likely cost more than £50!
is lemon and lime same in usa? here lemon is sour and lime is bitter...also lemon is yellow and lime is green. If we want bitter taste we can just use the top of the fruit peel of the lemon....so lime is almost never used
Longhorn is my P's favorite steakhouse to go to, pretty decent. Only one bad experience there when they oversalted my steak, but gave me a new one (manager even seemed to be aware of the problem). Sometimes it's hard to get good help.
I've always thought the melted butter with Ruth Chris is a way to mask that the steak doesn't have enough marbling. If it's a marbled prime steak, you don't need the fat from butter.
Kind of funny since we are currently on vacation in Myrtle Beach. All the local places we have tried for dinner have sucked so we ended up going to longhorn last night because we knew it would be good.
Please try New York Prime. I am never disappointed eating there, it is a classic traditional steakhouse throwback to the early 20th century with front and back waiters, Prime steaks, classic steakhouse sides (amazing creamed spinach) and a tremendous wine list.
I would love to see you review some non-chain "Mom and Pop" steakhouses. I suggest The Blue Agave Cattle Company in Blackwell Texas or Lowake Steakhouse in Rowena Texas.
That's true of any chain. Depends on who is doing the cooking. Many years ago if I wanted a steak, I'd call the Fridays to see who was cooking that night. If it was Rock, I went there. If he was off, don't go near the place. That guy was a magician with a steak. Then he went to this little hole in the wall downtown so I went there. Unfortunately he was only there for about a year before some millionaire hired him to be his personal chef. He hasn't worked in a restaurant since and that hole in the wall went under within 6 months of him leaving. It was just never the same
I went to Ruth Chris Beverly Hills many years ago. The ribeye they served was a battle to eat. I was much younger and should have returned it. I have never returned to Ruth Chris. I have given thought to giving them another shot but after reading this review, that idea is totally gone. Thanks for saving me a lot of money.
Whenever we go to Orlando for vacations - Longhorn is a MUST!!! We always try to squeeze in the Disney schedule to go to Longhorn and they haven't disappointed. Great service and great meal... hahaha you missed ordering a Margarita, it's a huge *ss bowl that will def get you drunk! HAHAHA
The best steak I’ve ever had at a restaurant was in Vegas at Tom colicchio’s craft steak. They have dry aged wagyu that is out of this world with impeccable service. Our group got one of each cut to share and the dry aged skirt steak was insanely delicious.
Longhorn is surprisingly good quality steak. Glad you see eye-to-eye with me. Also, love this series! I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on Ted's Montana Grill
wow! I feel validated. I love longhorn! I always recommend it! Outback is more of a place I like the apps from. That blooming onion is still perfection to me.
I know chains can vary location to location. I have a Ruth’s Chris near me, I’ve never been but I don’t even want to give my location the benefit of the doubt. Also I have a suggestion for a steakhouse if you have one near you, Logan’s Roadhouse. I haven’t been in a very long time due to shootings happening near it, and eventually COVID killing it, but I remember it being good.
Ruth's Chris was originally New Orelams, and barbecue shrimp in New Orleans do not involve a grill or smoke. Go to Pascale Manales off Napoleaon and you will experience what they were trying to deliver.
I drive a truck. When I stop, I always look for a steak. I try to do local, but if not, I'll do a chain. Longhorn is by far the best chain. Have had better steaks at some local spots, but Longhorn is always good.
Longhorn is amazing. Whenever I travel for work, it’s the first place I look up to see if the city has it. I took a girl I was dating to Ruth’s Chris and paid $250 for the whole dinner. (drinks, steak, lobster, multiple sides) It was a huge letdown, I won’t be going back at least for a while.
Hey GuGa I love your content. You never leave me wanting more from your videos. I've tried some of your recipes and I own your burger press and it's an amazing tool. I used it last night. I love steak. However, you made a comment about A1 Steak sauce and I can respect your thoughts on it. I enjoy the flavor of A1. My thoughts on it are like this, you do what makes you happy and I'll do what makes me happy. It's an age old debate between people. A1 or no A1. Again love the videos. Keep up the good work.
i agree with the online review on longhorn regarding cleanliness , ive been to three different branches across America now on trips , each time the steak has been ECCELLENT, but the tables thats another matter, and the tables were sticky to touch when seated, in the end i had to get the manager due to the staff being indifferent who made them clean it, i returned recently and nothing has changed longhorn hq needs to do there own spot checks on the franchises they are letting down the brand
I wonder if Guga saw my comment on episode 1. The Longhorn order was exactly what i said he should get in the last video lol. Glad you enjoyed it! It's always my goto.

Nick + Stef's Steakhouse hands down one of the best I've ever gone to but it's not a chain restaurant
This is proving what I have always known, that Longhorn is by the far the best of the cheap chain steakhouses.
I'm glad you're not doing these all in one video. This way you actually get to go more in depth with each place.
Dude, the steak sauce is for the heathens that don't know any better. Fantastic Video!!
Another fire video from Guga I love the videos Love from Canada
DAY 8 OF DRY AGEING STAKE IN HOISIN SAUCE
If Guga already started on day 1, it would take 27 days more.
@charlesr.8159 Came here to say this. Not sure what the guy is expecting.
DAY 8 OF EXPLAINIG THAT AGEING IN SAUCE ISN’T DRY AGEING
Dry aging… 😂😂 Okie dokie.
Give it ip
firebirds...shulas...ditkas...capital grille...saltgrass...chop...morton's...so much work to do, guga
I love this format.
this series is like a breath of fresh air
A long time ago (when it was still open) I was at Ruth's Chris in San Francisco and had a Petit Filet (medium rare) with the amazing Mac & Cheese. The filet was perfect, too because it was very round, almost the shape of a baseball. It was super rare at the center and cutting it in that sizzling butter was amazing.
do more of these episodes to alot of steakhouses we love these episodes and it a nice change from your other great content
i like this side series, cant wait to see where Guga goes next.
I'm very glad that I'm subscribed to your channel. Your videos are always interesting, informative and professionally made.😹🌛🏄
Crazy because I’ve never had a meal ever cooked properly at every longhorn I’ve ever been to in my life. I’m jealous yall have had such good experiences. Now that means I’ve only gone like 5-6 times but every time they drop the ball.
Love your videos Guga!!! My wife actually asked me last night if we could watch something other than “The Guga Guy” as she said lol
Can’t wait till I get a replacement grill/smoker so I can get back to making steaks in the Guga fashion.
Longhorns you get chicken tenders or the steak tips. I know I know.. chicken at a steak house.. but they are really good.
Last time I got chicken tenders at Longhorn, I threw up that night about 9 times in 7 hours or so. Couldn't sleep at all and every hour got up sick again all night long. Maybe it was just coincidence but for me that was enough to not get the chicken there anymore.
Last time I went anywhere and ordered chicken tenders I was still in diapers.
@@Nicolas_Cage_Bees I completely understand that. My guess is they don't change the oil there often which will cause that to happen.
Guga's experiance at Ruth Chris was my same experience. Bland steak that was extremely overpriced and mid , i never went back. I much rather go to my local Longhorn or Texas Roadhouse . The steaks are reasonably priced and taste way better imo.
Try Aberdeen Steakhouse in Norfolk, VA
Definitely please try Saltgrass Steakhouse!❤️
Kind of funny since we are currently on vacation in Myrtle Beach. All the local places we have tried for dinner have sucked so we ended up going to longhorn last night because we knew it would be good.
I guess every Ruth’s Chris is different depending on the chef. The one where I live is extremely good. And you should have gotten the lobster mac.
I love watching your videos Guga! Love from Texas!❤❤
Damn ! Guga! I jump and said ouch when you just said, don’t touch the plate. Touches plate 😮😊😂
Long horn is probably my favorite steak chain but feel like it depends on location with all of them
That's true of any chain.
HAHAHA
Bro is cooking ✖️ bro is cooked ✔️
Great vid Guga. Are you going to travel the country to try more steak house chains that aren't across the country? Keep the great vid going.
You need to get Angel and Ma in these episodes
EVERYONE streakhouse rating Guga Foods when
The best steak I’ve ever had at a restaurant was in Vegas at Tom colicchio’s craft steak.
Longhorn is my favorite by far. I always get the "Outlaw Ribeye Steak." Fortunately, I can cook top-notch steaks now.
Ruth's Chris was originally New Orelams, and barbecue shrimp in New Orleans do not involve a grill or smoke. Go to Pascale Manales off Napoleaon and you will experience what they were trying to deliver.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Saltgrass episode whenever that is
I drive a truck. When I stop, I always look for a steak. I try to do local, but if not, I'll do a chain. Longhorn is by far the best chain. Have had better steaks at some local spots, but Longhorn is always good.
Your channel is a source of entertainment as well as education. Keep leading us into the world of knowledge and discovery!🍟🥪🤠
You know Guga left the 2nd steak. Nice and calm video, no Leo. 👌👌👌👌
Lat time I had Longhorn steak (about 18 months ago), I ordered the Ribeye: it was thin and tasked and was chewey like ham.
Yea that longhorn in kendall has improved from my early years living there
If you’re on Long Island ever, try One10 Italian Steakhouse or Teller’s steakhouse. 2 of my favorite local steakhouses.
i agree with the online review on longhorn regarding cleanliness , ive been to three different branches across America now on trips , each time the steak has been ECCELLENT, but the tables thats another matter, and the tables were sticky to touch when seated, in the end i had to get the manager due to the staff being indifferent who made them clean it, i returned recently and nothing has changed longhorn hq needs to do there own spot checks on the franchises they are letting down the brand
I wonder if Guga saw my comment on episode 1. The Longhorn order was exactly what i said he should get in the last video lol. Glad you enjoyed it! It's always my goto.
Just imaging a GUGA steak house
Thank you for doing longhorn, its my fav place to eat out at.
