    This to me explained the Doctor's attachment to Rose right from the start. An ordinary girl that seemed to have no ties to the Doctor or time or the grand scheme of things. But she did. Explains why he can't leave her behind, let her go, tries to keep her with him or any part of him at any cost. It's because of this moment. He can't remember this, but deep down he knows she's important. Nine saves her, then tracks her down, then leaves her behind and STILL ends up coming back for her. Why? Because she is the Moment. She the first and last face that Ten ever sees. He nearly self destructs when he loses her. The most important part of his past or future.

      This is incredibly insightful. So Rose Tyler the Big Bad Wolf, and is the Moment. The question is, is it really only just Rose Tyler? Seems to me the Rose and the Tardis are the moment. As the Moment talks about the Tardis and how far he traveled so the Tardis wouldn't see.

    • @ManicFiction
      @ManicFiction Год назад +15

      @@AeschylusShepherd The Moment is simply a powerful weapon that was so advanced that it gained sentience. The "Rose" we see in the Day of the Doctor is The Moment simply only taking the form of Rose because she was a companion of the Doctor in the future (Well, the future of the War Doctor anyway). The Moment, The TARDIS, and Rose Tyler are seperate.

    • @donanthebarbarian5177
      @donanthebarbarian5177 Год назад +22

      @@ManicFiction ah but you forget that bad wolf aka possessed by the time vortex Rose has power over all of tone and space and for a fraction of a second in the time she has it during the bad wolf episode she disassembles and reaches herself instead of walking like a mortal. Then a moment later she scattered the words bad wolf throughout time and space both their personal pasts and the future, the past to lead herself there and the future whenever and wherever there's a moment where all of reality is at risk of she doesn't warn him/help him. So who's to say she didn't insert herself into the moment when it was created. Hell it may even be why the timelords successfully made the weapon that shouldn't be allowed to exist, she assisted them in making something that could do it but also interested herself so that they couldn't use it. Personally I think it is actually bad wolf rose about to go back to 9 and deal with the dalek fleet now that she's done arranging everything which took a moment in the episode bad wolf but may have been hours or centuries of experienced time for her. Part of the reason her clothes are ragged is that she's running out of spare energy to intervene and hold herself together since a human mortal isn't supposed to be able to survive much less wield that much power.

  • @TylerCharlesFisher
    @TylerCharlesFisher 9 лет назад +9609

    To be honest, I think having the Moment/Rose interact only with the War Doctor is a far more brilliant move than a lot of people give it credit for.
    To everyone else, Rose is a past companion. From the War Doctor's perspective, however, she's a FUTURE companion. This is significant as the War Doctor, by his own admission, doesn't believe he has a future. He's convinced he's going to die along with the rest of his people, and that he doesn't deserve to go on. He's very much at his lowest point here. Then along comes the Moment in the form of Rose as if to say "Chin up! You ARE going to have a future! You ARE going to travel with companions again! And you ARE going to deserve it, because I'm going to show you an alternative to genocide."
    To Ten and Eleven, she would have only represented the pain of the past. To the War Doctor, however, she represents the hope of the future. And I think that's a very lovely sentiment.

      I think that he was "The Doctor" more than anyone had imagined.
      All throughout the Time War, the War Doctor has tried numerous times to temper the Time Lords' reactions to certain events concerning the war effort.
      If you've listened to the audio dramas set during the time of the War Doctor and read a book called "Engines of War", you'd know that almost all of those attempts to try to get the Time Lords to be reasonable have been unsuccessful and, in fact, it only made the Time Lords to hate The Doctor more and more and made *some* Time Lords questioning the War Doctor's loyalty to his own people.
      To which end, he isn't on the Time Lords' side *or* the side of the Daleks. He's on the side of the innocents who get caught in the crossfire. Which is another reason why he deserves to be called "The Doctor" more than anyone.
      The heartless, cold and murderous man the War Doctor thinks he is wouldn't have argued with the Time Lords about the methods they're using to fight the war.
      In fact, he'd *agree* with whatever immoral things the Time Lords did during the Time War. And he wouldn't have cared about the people who are considered as "collateral damage" or "casualties of war" by the Time Lords because they were caught in this insane war.
      The Doctor was the same old good man that he's ever been. He's just too stupid and naive to realize that there's more than one way to "be a Doctor", as Clara Oswald put it.
      Put all this together, and you'd realize that it's more than just biology that is the reason why he's counted as one of The Doctor's incarnations.

      Or the name of the device, the Moment, was chosen for a reason, maybe ironically the Moment can (just like the TARDIS - another Time Lord invention) see all existing time at once, which would explain her "confusion" >> "I chose this face and form especially for you, it's from your past ... or possibly your future, I always mix those two". So no matter how much time passed, the Moment can see it all at once, the past, the present and the future, all of the time in one single MOMENT.

Also, the War Doctor was a regeneration before meeting Rose, and took until the end of that incarnation to encounter the Bad Wolf. There may have been something that stayed with the War Doctor, despite the timelines of his future incarnations crossing and preventing remembering everything else that happened. I think in the very moment of Rose looking inside TARDIS, they became one. She was the time itself. She saw all TARDIS can. She saw every Doctor out there, future, past and present of all timelines. She was the conciousness with power of time vortex. She was everything and nothing. She was beginning and the end. In the same time. But what really is time for raw time vortex with ability to think?

    I am now utterly convinced that the Moment,the Bad Wolf and Rose Tyler are all one and the same. After Rose interfaced with the Vortex,she mentioned that she "created myself," and scattered herself in the form of the "Bad Wolf" message across time and space. I assume that she also left fragments of "herself" in other forms so that she could be present at the Doctor's darkest moments,in this case,in the form of the most powerful weapon in history.
    Many of the eccentric mannerisms exhibited by the Moment here are strongly reminiscent of the Doctor if they were faced with a similar situation. I believe that this was deliberate on the Moment's part,to remind the Doctor of what they were and what they could be again. These actions also gave the War Incarnation pause and forced him to think, really think about what he was going to do--another hallmark of various previous Incarnations.
    Bad Wolf Rose is easily so powerful that, if it was of a mind to, and if it was what the Doctor truly wished, she could wipe out the whole of history, just like that. But the Moment wanted to make sure that this is what the War Incarnation really wanted,because,being a timeless, omnipresent entity,the Bad Wolf was absolutely certain that the Doctor would come around and do the right thing. Whatever changes the Doctor goes through,I firmly believe the Bad Wolf is the one constant in the Doctor's life,a steadfast reminder of the power of love to triumph over hate and fear.

      Woah that's a really flawless argument... especially as Rose, in Bad Wolf form, said she could see everything, so would naturally want to give the Doctor a kindness. Definitely think that Rose/Bad Wolf was very much present here and wasn't just a shell created by the Moment to talk to the War Doctor and show him a glimpse of the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. Bad Wolf created herself for one reason and one reason alone - because a young human woman loved the last of the Time Lords too much to let him die. So when Rose looked into the Vortex and was able to see everything across time and space ("all that is, all that was, all that could ever be"), she saw the many lives of the Doctor, including the War Doctor and the terrible pain he was in. As Ten said later, everything Rose did as Bad Wolf "was so human". (She brought Jack back because she loved him too and didn't want him to be gone either.) Bad Wolf was ultimately guided by Rose's love for the Doctor, so it makes perfect sense that a part of her reached out to him to help him avoid the greatest tragedy of his life (letting Ten, Eleven, and Clara through the Time Lock to help the War Doctor, guiding him through this terrible trial and showing him that there was still hope and life and love in his future).

    I've just this idea that the Moment and Bad Wolf are one and the same... Because what is Bad Wolf? The Time Vortex, locked into a human being named Rose Tyler for just a little time, just a Moment.
    The Bad Wolf could see all of time and space, she knew that Rose would be sent into another dimension and return for a time - she sent the messages. So wouldn't she have seen the Time Wars too?

    Head cannon- Rose in the parting of the ways after seeing the doctor suffering the consequences of the doctor destroying galifrey, took the time vortex into her head and became the bad wolf. Not only did she destroy the dalek emperor, save jack and spread bad wolf across time and space, but she also helped the doctor and became his conscience, helping him change his mind by showing him the future.
    This makes total sense, Rose in series one saw what destroying galifrey did to the doctor, so while she had the chance wouldn't she try and change what he so regrets? She's always been his voice of reason throughout her time on the show, so wouldn't it make sense for her to be this now? I find it weird how the moment suddenly developed a conscience, surely it would have had to have come from somewhere? Granted the moment says she chose the face and form for the doctor and debates who and what she is, but this could be because she's an echo of the bad wolf entity? A splinter?

      Thats what is great about the Moment. It is a _sentient_ WMD that _does not_ want to be used.

      Ever hear of Spock vs Q? It's a stageplay done by Leonard Nimoy and John DeLancie. It's pretty much just Spock and Q conversing and it is a delight. John Hurt and Billie Piper doing the same, playing as the War Doctor and the Moment really would have been just as great. ....if only...

    My headcanon is that the moment that The Moment's eyes start glowing when she says Bad Wolf, she and Bad Wolf Rose in The Parting Of The Ways merged into a Hybrid (Hardy har har standing in the ruins of gallifrey etc etc) to help the doctor save his Home. "All that is, All that was, and All that ever could be". Given the power the Bad Wolf had, its not unreasonable that she fiddled with the time lock a bit, and that she made everything read BAD WOLF in the end of Turn Left to spur the doctor and donna into action against the Daleks.

    GOD when she stops to think and the score cuts and she does the slight turn and begins in the whisper "im w-... Bad Wolf...." (eyes glow). My body shoook with chills!!! Idk something about Rose and the Bad Wolf just supersedes every other iconic companion moment for me.

    This was such a creative scene. The suspense building up. With this scene alone it makes the viewer want to watch more. And with the camera angles helps with the build up of suspense. It also builds the tension and adds to what the viewer may have already seen or known.

    I had an interesting thought the other day: what if Christopher Eccleston had agreed to join in on the 50th anniversary? Originally I tried to think how having the 9th Doctor would mess up the timeline (he might remember these events), so I thought further. What if Chris were The Moment instead of Rose? :o The War Doctor, thinking he'd destroyed Gallifrey, would regenerate into the very face of its destructor!

    This EP is so good. Notice on S8, there was a part where Clara gave a scary memory of the Doctor when she held the doctor's feet under the bed. The Doctor was on his younger days and it was on that same barn where he came back. Clara also mentioned something that the doctor would be back there soon or whatever, but it all came as planned. Well written Moffat.
