Conditional Forwarding and Stub Zones

    Stub zones do not require any additional permissions. They use standard DNS record lookups, not zone transfers. The difference is that forwarding requires recursion to be enabled so the server can forward the request and retrieve the response. Stub zones do not require recursion and will present a referral to the name servers that are authoritative for the name you have requested. If your name server is already doing recursion (which is most likely) then you won't notice any difference, the only advantage in using a stub is that if the other party update/change their DNS servers you wont need to go in and reconfigure your side of things.

    Yes I agree. However, you will often find in Microsoft tests that the presumption is you need permission. For example, they will say "you cannot make any changes to the primary zone" which is code for "pick conditional forwarding." It won't affect you in real life to memorize it this way but you have a better chance in the exam. :)
