FLORIDA LAND CLEARING/PLOWING VERSUS MULCHING

- 5 acre plot that was clear cut/cut over 4 years ago. Customers, Eddie and Xomir Negron, recently had this plot mulched/shredded and were amazed at how thick it had grown back. They were tired of wasting their time and money which is why they called us.
You sir are absolutely correct about removing the roots. I argued with a contractor who wanted to mulch my land. He swore on his mother’s life that mulching is the way to go (he was gonna charge $3500/acre). I told him to go pound sand. I rented a D5 dozer ($5000 a month) and cleared my land of ALL the stumps, tree and over growth. 2 years passed and it looks exactly like it did except greener. You gotta watch those guys with those mulchers, they prey on people who are desperate to have their property cleared.
Having 0 experience operating a dozer, I had 7 acres to figure it out. After the first acre and a few mistakes later...I had all figured out. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
excellent
That land is differently cleared. That plow is a beast! Good job!
Thanks Mr Greg
I made the same mistake. Brought a mulching company in and had them mulch my 2.5 acres and three months later it looked just like the start of your video. Will definitely get it plowed next time. Great video, thanks for sharing.
thanks
Great video, biggest issue with people mulching is they don't follow it up, you either need to spray it and seed it or you need to keep bush hogging it. Plowing it works great except for our area because you just dig up more rocks
Understand
Great video / we have done it all here in our land in East Texas / for trails mulcher is ok but for pasture I think your set up is PERFECT. Removes the stumps can level where required and your massive disc it fantastic / great video. Another key to to make sure they fully burn and level the piles.
Thanks Mr Kurt
It's called Sub soiling with a mulcher head and most people dont wanna pay the price too push in a pile and haul off or even bring an air curtain in an burn it. Mulching cost less!
I am so glad I saw this video. I will be purchasing about 10 acres of land soon and I was wondering what is the best way to go about preparing 4 acres for my home and 6 acres for agriculture. Thank you very very much!
glad you enjoyed
Great video Steve! I just posted a video of pulling my Rome plow, these plows are like none other and it’s fun to plow with a dozer! Keep the videos and knowledge coming please!!!
That's some sandy soil. I'd venture to say whether you clear the land with the dozer or mulch it, as long as you come behind and disc it up then mow it regularly, you'll be fine.
Excellent video and explanation! Thanks!
My pleasure thanks for the kind words
You make a good point but depends on what you want to do with the land if you're into deer hunting I think mulching is a better way to go so you get some growth coming back?
get grass come up after plowing, sun gets to grown after cover plowed under but you have excellent point
Nice sounding dozer there ! Love it
thank you sir
How much to clear an acre?
Very nice 👍🏾
One thing I like the way you do it from the few videos I watched is you not stripping the topsoil. Most people I see in your business seems to strip all the topsoil off i think that the reason mulching has gotten so popular. But you leave the topsoil with that tree pusher.
Yes sir Mr Tony, remove the unwanter an make productive land, mulched land is useless land other than paths thru useless land lol see the powerline rightaway get mulched twice a year
@@stevebenifiel5068 it’s only useless if you want to turn it into a yard or grow crops, which isn’t natural. The forests all grow back eventually. It’s all about what you want in the end.
We call that a braking disc , however that’s a real nice land clearing set up .
thank you sir
Mulching does great, you just have to maintain it. The stumps will then rot over time.
thanks
I learned from your video.
thanks
Nice work, love watching it!
I have 10 acres with around 70 small trees and saw palmettos everywhere, will that equipment leave my land like that ready for seeding?
Thanks
If palmettos are real thick will have to go over it couple times
Wow what a beast that setup is, very cool.
Thanks man
thank you
That dozer is a supper nice pice
Thanks Mr.Justin, running a D6R now.
Hi Steve, have you ever consider to use a skkider for pulling the plow instead of the dozer? I know dozer is more versatile but tires will be a lot cheaper than undercarriage I believe.
yes but most time we do small acreage, and need dozer to clear so we only have to move one piece equipment and put plow on smaller trailer
Wow, that was amazing sir, great job!! How much an acre??

@@stevebenifiel5068 Good for you, GOD BLESS
love the video..however, there are still a lot of upsides to mulching..but a person has to make a decision that waiting 6 months just ain't gonna cut it..literally.
upsides to everything, mulching/mowing same thing, to clear land requires getting into the land, mulching is ''above'' the land, but yes it has it's place,
That was a remco harrow not a Rome . Same basic design but just better
REMCO is Rome Equipment Manufacturing Company, same harrow different tags, something to do when they had tax problems lol
This is what ray tracing will look like in a year
I was thinking of buying a few acres on the moon and would like it leveled out and all the moon rocks put in a pile!
If you get it bought let us know thanks
Hey Mr. Steve! I’m looking to get started in the same business your in! I am located in Savannah GA and would greatly appreciate if I could, come down one day to see your equipment in action and ask a few questions about the business. I would really appreciate the opportunity but, I also understand if you decline. Never hurts to ask! Thanks -Austin
no problem come see
Thank you sir! I appreciate it, if you don’t mind I will call you from the number at the end of the video sometime this week to see what day is good for you!
Hello Steve, we have watched your videos a lot and appreciate the info. We are looking to get this done on our property and would like to get an estimate. We have 2.5 acres and want it cleared for sowing grass/landscaping and small garden. We are located in Bronson FL Levy County
steve 352-221-3014 I live otter creek lol
Hey Steve, need your expert advice, I have the same situation where my land was mulched and growing back. I have 2 contractors, one who wants to use a root rake, and another wants to use a disc harrow. What do you suggest? Any advice would be appreciated....BTW congratulations on your retirement, Thank you!
not that simple, how big are stumps left by mulcher? if disc harrow is a heavy rome will flip 8 inch pine stumps out of ground, root rake on rubber tired loader? Dozer? root rake kind helpless on stumps in ground if on rubber tire loader,
@@stevebenifiel5068 There is no tree stumps, the mulcher went around the existing trees and shredded the bushes. The root rake is on the front end of a dozer
Would prolly run disc over it then, if big heavy disc,
@@TheDallasbishop Was logged and pine stumps were mainly on back side, yes I built the rake so I know where it is located on dozer lol
How much do you charge to clear 1 acre of land in South Florida?
depends how thick , big trees etc? average 2,500 acre
If you don't removed the roots it will come back. People that rome offset disk is bad. Like an offset disk. Have a great day be safe
thank you
Nice video what part of florida are u in i am central florida saint cloud
Chiefland area,
chiefland thank you
But there were no big stumps to break all your disc blades lol
blades are 3/8 thick
blades are 3/8 thick
Do you do voiceover work?
no sir
@@stevebenifiel5068 you got the voice for it. If you ever wanted side cash for reading some bullshit into a mic there are a buncha options out there.
@@jeepxj oh now I understand what you are asking thanks am ready go to work now lol
why not just prescribe burn?
forest service make us keep one piece equipment on site while burning, gets expensive for landowner , plus the liabilities anymore, this way one day in/out gone
sell me that 5
You bought it did'nt you? Have a 6 now ---never owned any piece of equipment that would not sell lol
@@stevebenifiel5068 I wish I did buy it
@@MrThatARMAguy want this six? I will make another one lol
@@stevebenifiel5068 what you asking? Hours?
@@MrThatARMAguy 6990.3 rake an spear?
That's how climate change
in ALL recorded history the climate has been changing, just like your life you '''change''''' everyday, from ice age to now is constant '''''change''''''' , it will not stop because of you tree huggers
@Juho J Yes that is my point, everyone trying to save''human race'',people are the problem with the planet, the planet is in the process of eliminating the problem, prime example here in florida, python are labeled as ''invasive species'' i tell everyone EVERYTHING in Florida including people born here are ""INVASIVE SPECIES"" , we just happen to be alive near the end of our terrible progress to extinction, EVERYTHING is on this road, we are not exempt, all that comes must go
🤣❄️👊😅
Can you clear my land? I live in lacombe, la
retired last month lol thanks
Steve Benifiel damn lol
wow .. .. go home
thanks
Steve b. - I really get a kick out of you guys that think you got it all figured out. “Clear air”, “mulching looks nice”, etc. what the hell. No common sense anymore
I would call that a disc. Rome is the best for that kind of work. 32" blades is awesome. I see you are using a good pattern for working land. You can badly ridge land with a disc if you don't do it right.
Thanks Mr Tom
Sir your using what we call a bog. A plow in Kentucky is an actual bottom plow. Anyway looks good
thanks
The Vietnamese are very familiar with Rome plow.
Yes sir I was there for 2 tours in helicopter saw them many times, purple heart ticket home lol
Buying an acre land in New Orleans and I am trying to find someone to clear it for me... Any Suggestion?
no sir do not sorry
I know a guy that is located 25 mins south of Lafayette, I'm sure he'll travel if the price is right, he has a bulldozer, will be doing some work for me once this rain passes..
I could build you a chopper
retired for now thanks
What part of Florida are you in?
nature coast cedar key area
Steve Nice, I'm in Lake County just north of Orlando out in the woods.
Steve, I used to work for the big tall guy Andy from Napa in cedar key. He moved up there about 10-15 years ago
