This antiquated yet celebrated, enchanted, and sophisticated musical sequence of the magnificent Fred Astaire in his 1935 Top Hat can be utterly hailed as one of his most spectacular and finest solo dance numbers ever performed. Bonking, gliding, swerving, and thumping on the stage floor with the embellishment of Irving Berlin's wonderful music - Fred Astaire had brandished his dancing skill in his usual jaunty and swanky mood. Moreover it's definitely noteworthy to recognize his accuracy and proficiency in conducting his cane in the musical scene and to acknowledge Hermes Pan for his well-choreographed and well-rehearsed dance number. It's truly topnotch through and through. `
1935 was the peak year for toppers and tails. Fred never liked dancing in formal wear, but it was de rigueur for Broadway first nights, so he compromised by assassinating a gang of guys thus attired. Over at RKO his only female peer, Eleanor Powell, was lording it over a similarly clad troupe of men in 'Broadway Melody of 1936', wearing a spangly feminine adaptation of the Main Stem uniform. Fred donned what was becoming an archaic outfit for his intended goodbye number, the epic 'Puttin' on the Ritz', in 'Blue Skies' (1946l. And in his actual last number of all at Metro, 'The Ritz Roll and Rock' from 'Silk Stockings', he bosses the guys as he does here, symbolically smashing the top hat flat at the end as he lies on the floor. Hail and farewell.
The gentlemen in the box were rich people that his associated (Edward Everett Horton) wants to invest in future stage shows. It was like saying "We haunt them".
I love Fred Astaire. Mom used to let me stay up late to watch him. See you in heaven Mr Astaire ♥

Brilliant talent.

Nobody does it better than Fred and Ginger!
Fred and Rita Hayworth, Fred and Eleanor Powell do it better.
"Astaire... appears demure, dresses up dapper, then guns everyone down, with debonair."
