thank you so very much. As an Afro-American with CCCA and also a nurse, I can really appreciate your clear and concise lecture. I really learned so much. If ccca is an autoimmune response, it makes sense to me now. I'm already plagued with an autoimmune disease. The shock factor should be low when I do receive my biopsy back. Who knew that being asymptomatic is indicative of ccca?😱..I was hoping for anything but that. If it turns out that I have ccca I'll definitely sign up for a clinical trial, I don't want my daughter's beautiful hair to be destroyed by this horrible alopecia that comes like thief and takes your hair. This is devastating😢.

Thank you for this informative lecture. I was just diagnosed with FFA. I haven't had the biopsy yet, but after seeing this video I realize I don't need one. Now to take action.
So ccca , diagnosed 4 years ago. I just don’t want to believe there isn’t a cure. Does Prp regenerate the sebaceous glands? What do you think of Acell prp? Is there anything we can take to like regenerate the sebaceous glands ? Like a folic acid? Would that help? I started taking anti inflammatories and i was vegetarian and now I started eating fish ,I try my best to remove carbs and sugar( sometimes I get weak though, but it isn’t that often). I also started using essential oil blends+ pumpkin seed oils on my bald spots ( which were formally smooth as a baby’s bottom) and I am starting to feel a peach fuzz. I recently just started adding fish + vitamin D3+ fish oils in my diet and I started the essential oils back in April and I added pumpkin seed oil a couple weeks ago. I have no idea which part of my new regimen got me a peach fuzz on my bald spot. It might be a combination of everything. But at the very least , there is something good that happens when you change your diet.
Oils just make my scalp breakout. I have had this for almost 20 years. Doxycycline and topical solutions do work but don’t over use the topical solutions. I actually bleached my scalp in one area. This sucks man and I’m so tired of it!!!!!!
I'm sorry I bother you with tons of questions but I would really like to know your thought. if one has FFA and not LPP based on losing eyebrows, pubic and axillary hair does it mean one needs a very different set of treatment? as finastride with isotretinion is the treatment for FFA and not hydroxyqloroquin?so giving hydroxyqloroquin to a patient with FFA and not LPP its a mistake? do you think is it critical to differentiate between FFA and LPP? Thank you so much!
It is critical to distinguish between having a) FFA and b) FFA + LPP and c) LPP only and d) FFA and LPP and AGA and e) LPP and AGA f) AGA and FFA. It all matters. No, giving Hydroxychloroquine is not a mistake. It's just less useful. Hydroxychloroquine might help FFA a bit - just not the same magnitude as other treatments. Some people can't use finasteride and isotretinoin for various reasons. Other options quickly rise up the list of possible treatments. Unless a dermatologist who really understands FFA and LPP has said a person does not have LPP, I assume the person has some slight LPP. It's more widespread than we typically imagine. Granted it might not be causing hair loss, but many have small amounts of LPP in the mid scalp too. Not everyone of course. But more than are recognized.

To diagnose hair loss in humans, we need three things 1) a fully story from birth to the present day 2) a chance to examine the scalp up close with trichoscopy and 3) a chance to review all relevant blood tests. In this case, I have none of these three so anything is purely a guess. There are 100 reasons to lose hair so any one of these 100 is fair game as a guess. I don't guess at hair loss so these three principles are key.
Hello, I am a African American female with alopecia. There are tons of youtube videos promoting essential oils like rosemary and the an external castor oil, black Jamaican castor oil that is supposed to regrow alopecia ariata. What are your thoughts on this?

I have pain in the top of my head and in the back. I cannot take corticosteroids because the side effects are too aggressive on me and don’t subside with time. What should I do?
I have the same situation. Every dermatologist and trichologist tells me it's androgenetic alopecia and no scarring hair loss. It is the pattern of hair loss and past symptoms that has me worried. My alopecia doesn't want to reverse (regrow hair) either after a year and since having telogen effluvium. I photograph pictures and see no significant gaps among the space apart of hair follicles. Some of these places though have thinness of hairs (miniaturization) and one hair or none per follicular ostia. The problem is self diagnosis is difficult too. It could be androgenetic alopecia, pseudopelade of brocq or lichen planopilaris with what I'm dealing with. I doubt it could be anything else as nothing else makes sense.
