Your King and Queen plates are very fun! And your property looks divine!
Don't feel defeated by the garden outcomes. If I may recommend a few things about your garden:
-Try keeping a journal of each planting/growing season, documenting what you planted where and the results. Sometimes the land will tell us things.
-Take advantage of all the weeds you currently have. Let winter do it's job and the weeds/plant material can help in the health of your soil by essentially being mulch
-Explore companion planting. Some combinations of flowers/vegetables will naturally help repel detrimental insects. For example: nasturtium in proximity of squash and brassicas. Also, marigold near *almost anything!
-Try to rotate your crops every year or two to avoid nematodes developing in your soil
As far as the deer go... sometimes we just have to work with what nature gives us 😺

Thank you so so much! I do some of these tips but need to put a bit more effort in overall! I didn’t end up winterizing yet 🫠 do you recommend I leave the weeds until the spring?
I have lots of ideas on some changes to make for the spring. Possible building some box beds and working on compost through the winter too!

@@BriannaShambrook unless you intend to plant some seeds now, I personally would just leave the weeds and pull anything that survives the winter in the spring. Or if they're really easy to pull now, pull them but leave them where they are. Some people may disagree with my "occasionally lazy" garden methods, but they work for me and if you've already had a disappointing season, making a lot of effort just before winter can add to that.
I also let my successful plants/veg have a few go completely to seed (which drives some of my gardener friends crazy) and allow volunteer plants to propagate on their own. I find the ones that are meant to be will carry on. I had a nice small crop of beets that I essentially did nothing to achieve! Again, some what "unorthodox", but I like to experiment and trust the land 😺

@@Natalese13 Thanks so much for your tips! I will be doing something similar as you've described because I still haven't winterized lol I was going to the weekend I filmed this video and then I didn't! So the Spring might be rough but thats okay. Good idea to pull the weeds and maybe leave them in place for the soil over the winter. I let most things go to seed haha I do like the unruly look - but I let the pathways get taken over!

Totally relate. My pumpkin patch was so overgrown but only yielded one mature pumpkin😢. It’s a beauty, though, and having the green growing stuff in my courtyard gave it so much summer life! I just love the process❤.
    Omg Winnie is soooo cute❤.

Aw thank you! Winnie is so perfect 🥰 I totally agree lots of my plants grew green leaves but didn’t make it all the way and it still looked pretty! 🌻✨ Hoping your pumpkin patch gives you lots next year!

Mine did that for the last 5-6 years & I was going to give up. But I couldn’t❗️. I just kept on & on & finally this year I actually had a nice one that did produce - but I only had 3 kinds of produce - we planted late. Next year…. Keep on girl‼️‼️

Maybe you can try leaving the leaves this fall so that they and the rest of the dead plants can revitalize your soil ❣

Try planting some ally plants that will attract the predators of aphids and/or if they're native buy some ladybirds. There's also bug nets that can help . I had an awful crop this year too! But I managed to avoid aphids this way

❣❣❣I feel you need to plant what is native. A garden shouldn't be a place where you need to toil over it every single day. You have to think of the synergy among the plants. I feel then you will have a successful garden. You seem to be a busy person with lot of hobbies, so you shouldn't feel tied down to your garden. Your garden shouldn't be a burden like the way you are experiencing it now ❣❣❣

Thank you so much for your advice! I've definitely been learning about what plants work and don't work for my soil and my area. The ocean is across the street from me and I'm in a bit of a micro-climate where I am so it's been trial and error as a new gardener! 💕 ✨

My herb garden is killing *mint* and I have no idea how XD it might be getting shaded out by the lemon balm next to it but i'm kind of impressed

All that stuff they spray, changes the ph of the rain water and soil. Makes it alkaline. Maybe that's got something to do with it.
