    Your restoration videos are some of my absolute favorites. It is fascinating to see just how beautiful these old pens still are, as long as they are cared for by someone who knows their materials and engineering well.

    Thank you ever so much for these videos. Parker's demise of this filling system in favour of the aerometric is one of the greater tragedies of the company's history IM(NS)HO. Kudos on this amazing restoration! I always look forward to your Sunday Resurrection videos!

    Many thanks for another illuminating post. Sooner or later I'll find a Vacumatic and, when I do, the restoration will be successful because of the wonderful lectures presented by the Rathbun Higher Institute of Vintage Repairs. Although without the beautiful celluloids, the English Duofolds of the 1950s share the same qualities: well-built, comfortable and beautiful. Cheers from Oz.

    Best of the lot! I don't know why, but I do love the lockdown. Seems so much neater overall. And the art deco style in this colourway just seems to work so well. It really pops. Great job, Doug! 👍🏽

    I have a Parker vacumatic from the land of maple syrup and hockey (Canada) made in 1953-54 in Azure blue. Though it’s missing the clip the pen write well and fills good. Though for writing I still love either my sheaffer Targa or Parker 51

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  11 месяцев назад +2

      Canada, the UK, and others continued to make the Vacumatic after the US stopped in 1948.

    Thanks, Doug, great video - I have the 1945 version of the Vacumatic, very similar to the one you showed with the wider cap band. My son gave it to me a couple years ago as a birthday gift, so I treasure it because of that. But in addition, that pen does something special to my handwriting that is hard to describe. I suspect you’re familiar with this effect, though I can’t say I ever heard you or any of the other many fountain pen RUclipsrs mention it. Some pens just seem to make my handwriting look much better. It’s probably the size of the pen, how it fits my hand, a certain feel of the nib and its feedback on the page … and some other mysterious hard-to-define effect that enhances the overall fountain pen experience. Know what I mean?

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  11 месяцев назад +1

      I know precisely what you mean! Most pens alter your handwriting in different ways. My Pelikan M800 is one of the most pronounced in that way, altering my handwriting to what I feel is its highest level.

    An extensive renovation. Just from the point of the amount of ink it holds and the refill system,you’d think Parker could release a new retro model.
    How long did that renno take?

    I saw a Vacuumatic in a local antique store. I have no idea the age but at $200 and the dealer had no information on the pen, I chose to give it a pass. Besides it would have cost me probably the same amount to have it restored. It is a little bit much. But it was beautiful. It did have the imprint on the barrel stating the model.
    I am guessing this is one that will remain in your collection.
    A tough one today to restore but your perseverance is admirable, Doug.

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  11 месяцев назад +2

      Yes! I'll be keeping this one. I paid close to $200 for this one unrestored.

    I should be fine with regular Pilot blue black or other standard inks with latex sacs I assume my Vacuumatic has. No? Or should I switch to Waterman? Gorgeous pen and great video. Thanks.

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  10 месяцев назад +2

      Actually, Pilot Blue Black has a much more neutral pH (8.2) than Waterman Serenity Blue (2.9). The key to Serenity's safety is that it has a relatively low saturation. If Pilot Blue Black washes up easily, then it will be safe for lax sacs.

      Thanks for the good tip @@InkquiringMinds . I do like vintage pens and looking at Japanese inks, but haven't given as much thought to ink sacs except to avoid things that are glittery and the like. Happy holidays and thanks again!

    lol...sometimes I watch the restoration vids and think - yeah I can do that - and slowly I have been....other times I think...ya know...sending it away seems like a safe option! - celluloid kind of scares me a bit....this restoration is probably in between for me!
