The role of Diva Plavalaguna was played by the French actress Maiwenn, who at the time of the production of the film was in a civil marriage with Luc Besson .The aria "Il dolce suono" from the opera "Lucia di Lammermoor" by composer Gaetano Donizetti in Italian was performed behind the scenes by the opera singer Inva Mula. Part of the aria of Lucia de Lamermoor Plavalaguna is performed with synthetic vocals (that is, voice, but without the use of words and together with music), sung not with a human voice, but created on a computer, since the human voice is not able to master such a range, characteristic of the legend of the film for Voices of Plavalaguna (at the time of filming, no person was found with the ability to perform in such a voice, but later this was refuted when the part was performed by Kazakh singer Dimash Kudaibergen). It was easily the best moment in the movie - a sudden elevation that is almost out of place, if it weren’t so sublime. I often drag it out to play as a standalone performance and it never ceases to hypnotise.
In terms of the sound, I think what really makes it otherworldly is - while the background track goes from classical to EDM pretty abruptly - the natural operatic singing being subtly blended in with the synthetic voice modification is pretty damn disorienting. As least from a layman's POV, it becomes hard to distinguish when and where the voice was modified (for most of us operatic voices in themselves seem magical by themselves), but we just *know* something about it is unnatural, almost alien. The visual of the actual real blue alien and the bizarre dance is the punctuation mark, that really helps give the illusion of, "Yep. Yep I'm listening to an alien opera in the future and I'm just going to sit here and not question how weird this is." and then when the movie is done, we all collectively go, "... Wait wtf WAS that?" 😂 it's really good movie making honestly! 😂

It, like a vast degree of modern science fiction, is very much influenced by an absolutely amazing comic by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Jean Giraud named The Incal, which I would highly, highly recommend to anyone.
I hope you don't mind a bit of context. The first part is a post murder mental break down song. It's an aria called "Il dolce suono" from the opera Lucia di Lammermoor. This is sung by Lucia, who has just come down from the stairs in her wedding gown. She's covered in blood, holding the knife she's just used to murder the man she was forced to marry. She's clearly insane, everyone there for the wedding is terrified of her, and she's raving about how her true love is coming back to her, a man that its believe to be dead.

Poor girl, did this role for her boyfriend. Meanwhile while she was practicing this for months and didn't want to do it at all, he was cheating on her with Mila. But she ended being iconic in the sci fi sphere lol
I can’t see your actual reply comment, but I’ll try to reply to it as best as I can. You’re right, I’m sorry. I usually just coat on a mask of progressiveness whenever this happens on YouTuve, but the only reason I commented was that the “poor girl” thing is something I absolutely hate hearing; it’s like you’re demeaning her intelligence (making it that of a child) just because she’s female. I heard that too much during a bad period of time that it just makes me angry anytime I hear or see it. Also, I know it was hyperbole, but I do not support the director of this movie. I support the actress, but I think she can support herself really well all the same. In conclusion, I apologize for this whole debacle. I just really freaking hated those words.
I just want to point out that this "boyfriend" (Luc Besson, the director of the movie) did even more horrible things than that. He met Maiwenn (the actress) when she was 12 and he was 29, and 3 years later started dating her, when she turned 15. At 16 she had their first child. In 2018 he was accused of rap-e by multiple women. He's a monster as far as I'm concerned.

But look - music is subjective, so if that's the version that appeals to you most, I get it. Just recognize the difference between a live version and the first version.
@@bertjones3010
But the singers you are praising, that chinese girl and dimash, nice as their versions are, are a modified version of this song since there are parts which literally can't be replicated by humans. You know that, right? So this IS the original, the thing they copy when singing it, while modifying it to suit their human limitations. No human can go from high note to low as quickly as at 4:16 for example, the live versions are good but not as interesting and "alien" as this.
@@fabiana7157 Well I can't argue your logic though hardly anyone doing a cover does it 'exactly' like the original, you know that right? Though there are those who have those expectations with songs they adore. Where I found my information did not specify what the limiting factors were her in recording the song. It's not a song I have that much interest in other from when I saw it in the movie. Regards,

A sci-fi fantasy film, that was ahead of it's time, and like all Luc Besson films - truly unique. Really comedic, action packed, and a great storyline, with such a legendary cast, espically Bruce Willis, who nailed the performance, Leeloo, Ruby, and Zorg also being unforgettable characters and what hilarious quotes they have for sure, Also to note how amazing to see Gary Oldman, so dedicated to his characters.Great film overall, I'm not much of a sci-fi fan, but this is an expection! What a film!
A sci-fi filmcreated to distract the European and US people from the incoming US colonization of Middle East + extreme weapon delivery to Middle East for causing the ultimate Chaos between muslims for all time.
So much People enjoyed this Film, its a good film btw, but it distract us from the reality. The harsh reality where we live in a fabricated world, controlled by controllers, that ironically enough are also controlled. While we watch this movie, the (superrich) people beyond the curtain collect our Data, manipulate us, sell our Data, brainwash us.
Instead of us waking up and extracting the power from the top back to the majoritiy, we give our money, lifetime, attraction and soul to the superrich.
The intricate interplay of technology and artistic prowess in bringing Plavalaguna's voice to life leaves one utterly astounded. 🌟 Massive applause goes to the entire production ensemble for etching this iconic sequence indelibly into memory! 🚀 #FifthElement #DivaMagic
It, like a vast degree of modern science fiction, is very much influenced by an absolutely amazing comic by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Jean Giraud named The Incal, which I would highly, highly recommend to anyone.

Usually? How much opera have u listened to. Most people think they don't like it. U might be surprised as to how much you'll enjoy it
I hope you don't mind a bit of context.

Stunning, a voice like no other, like birds singing, I loved her in the movie, and the love has never waned, as I said stunning.
This was digitally assembled. She sang tha actual notes then the pop epic parts were digitally done as they're impossible to hit so accurately and rapidly. Yet a Chinese singer attempted it.

She was the actor. The person who actually sang it (with digital sound editing) was Inva Mula-Tchako.
@@flickrennels @Jane Feeney
