      @@violetasheila this particular kind are completely blind so I assume they would bite in reaction to not knowing what the heck is touching/picking them up lol. Unless raised in captivity possibly

      they are not specific to your area, they have a rare trait or quote unique. Spalax are immune to cancer, they synthetize a protein that can quickly eliminate the cancer cells before they get a chance to develop the disease

    The mole rats are not, by all means, going to be extinct! In Romania they are really a nuisance in the last a couple of years, very difficult to get rid of!

      Yes, but this species in particular will be. If you’re not skilled, all moles, look pretty much the same.

    Im from the uk and im very jealous of the hungarian garden, i wish my garden had a spalax. Instead i have a squirrel un my attic and its making a big hole in my roof. 🤨

    I have a house in Vojvodina, Kikinda Municipality where I have about 10 of these in my backyard, when we had a fsrm 10 years ago they were destroying ALL crops. I live in Belgrade bur I regularly go to the house in the summer.

    Omg that's why the bottom of their eyes are shaped kinda like a little shelf.... they dig w their freakin face also why their whole body n face is cylinder shaped!! Very interesting!!! I never seen this animal til todayy and I thought I knew basically all animals haha silly me..

    There a breed of rat obviously it would be easier to just bring them into more areas where they can live rodents breed fast just breed them in captivity for a while you’ll have thousands of them tens of thousands even

      They are not a species or breed of rat. They are spalacids - rhizomyinae. Not rattus. They only breed once a year, hence their vulnerability.

      ​@@Flbari No, they do have eyes at birth. However, since they never use them due to living underground, skin grows over their eyes when they are young. The skin and fur grow over their eyes, just as it would any other part of their body. They use their sense of smell, and the ability of sensing magnetic fields in the earth to navigate where they're going.

      it's not an actual mole tho, it's more close to a rat than an actual mole. they call them mole rat because even if not genetically similar, mole rats and moles are both blind and behave similarly
