      I think I posted my idea earlier: Maybe you can add a small survival pack to your shop. I think about not only the usual stuff like fishing gear, compass, rescue blanket, plaster, whistle and firesteel, but also , gloves, wax, tampons, handle made of paracord, plastic bag for water, ....erm....geez I run out of english vocabulary...., Wasserreinigungstablette, Minipaket Bundeswehrkekse, Messer MIT Klappsäge/Multitool, Taschenlampe (mit Batterie oder Kurbel), Packung Taschentücher, kleiner Wasserbehälter aus Metall damit man das Wasser abkochen kann, Espitkocher mit Espitwürfel, Sturmstreichhölzer die im Wasser brennen mit Reibeflache, faltbare Flasche, kleiner Schlauch....

    Good to see everyone is doing fine. If your having trouble getting hold of hand sanitizer try making your own as I did. Ingredients: 100% Aloe Vera cream, Coconut cream, distilled water, and 60% - 90% Isopropyl alcohol. Measure each ingredient 60ml with the exception of the alcohol which is 20ml. Mix thoroughly and this will make 200ml of hand sanitizer that will not dry your skin. Place in small squeeze type or empty hand sanitizer bottles. Shake before each use and you will be good to go. Hope this helps and great video.

    Mini mag ( the black one ) unscrew the top lens and it becomes a candle also you can use small wire to start a fire by removing the bulb. Chem lights work for 8 to 12 hours, also under water . They also can be attached to string and thorn over a branch or pull up to be used to signal for help.

    You have some practical stuff for emergency management for EDC. Maglite flashlights are tough. Good for any bug out bag.
    Maglite makes a larger flashlight that uses six D size batteries. It is fairly heavy. You can actually use it like a club for self defense. Just hold the Maglite by the bulb end. The other end is solid and can put a lump on an attacker's head. Yet this Maglite is only a flashlight, and, not considered an offensive weapon. Nothing illegal when carrying in public. There is even a belt loop you can get to carry it like a sheaf knife.

    Please allow me to suggest adding a bungee cord to your kit. Your rain poncho is OK unless the wind is blowing, then it's a problem as the poncho will blow up like Marylin Monroes skirt.
    So, wear the poncho as you normally would, but wear the bungee as a belt. You can concentrate on your destination instead of your unruly poncho.

  • @tomjjackson21
    @tomjjackson21 4 года назад +3

    Seriously don't underestimate the frequency of eye injuries. I've personally had to have splinters and metal surgically removed from my eye's. Its more common than you think. I never thought of carrying a low powered, incandescent type of bulb. Thats why I watch these.
    "My spouse?" You just broke a lot of hearts.

  • @JamesRPatrick
    @JamesRPatrick 4 года назад +3

    It's a good start. You're missing food and shelter. You can go without food for a while but not if you're physically exerting yourself. Shelter can be accomplished with a space blanket or any lightweight plastic barrier. The poncho can work if it's large enough. You might consider adding spare eyeglasses if you are dependent on them.
    I think you could fit all of your current gear into a pack that is half the size and weight. That pack alone weighs as much as a liter of water. All of the zippers, pockets, clips, and molle webbing add a lot of unnecessary weight. A one or two compartment backpack of the same capacity would be substantially lighter. The only item that needs a dedicated compartment is the first aid kit. You can put everything else into a single contractor bag in the large compartment so that it is waterproof.
    You can also save weight by carrying only a few sheets of the notebook paper instead of the whole book, and consolidating your two flashlights into one multi-mode flashlight.
    I hope that you find some of these ideas useful.

    I've have used a couple of the Direct Action bags for quite a few years now and they have held up very well, lots of organization and sturdy construction. One thing that I've done on both my packs is that I have added a shock cord (enough to create about a 3'' or .0762m circle without stretching it out) to the loops on the tops of the side pockets, then connected the ends together with a rubber heat shrink tube. This simply gives a little extra retention around the tops of water bottles and other bulky items you may stuff in the side pockets.

    My favorite first aid tools. 1. Triangular Bandage. A very versatile item. I carry 3. 2. Quick clot or other blood clotting product. 3. Tactical Tourniquet. Yes, your Triangular Bandage and a stick will work but If you are using this on yourself, the tactical models are best.

      pencil sharpener, I love it! Candidate for "odd but useful" object of the year -- and the small ones are virtually weightless.
      .
      ok here's one: pruning clippers, instead of hatchet or saw.
      .
      For camping in sonoran desert, pruning clippers are my #1 tool for clearing thorns. Clearing thorns is job #1 in some of the #1 beautiful areas -- the desert with the #1 most tree species of any desert on earth, and much of it pointed.
      .
      For that I use a pair of solid fiskars; although there are much lighter ones they are worth the weight.

    Thanks for sharing.
    First time I saw you having mercy with your old dog and protect it against your puppy, keeping her busy all day long - old dogs need their rest, just like old people do.
    Your pack looks more like urban survival with a pick-set but no tarp, no water purification or filter, etc. It should be quite light-weight, so it doesn't matter that it's too short for you - the hip belt is riding around your waist. With a heavy backpack you want to take the hip-belt about 80% of the weight for comfortable carry.
    Only use ethanol-based hand-sanitizer, any other don't work as well against viruses. If you run out of it, simply wash your hands with water and soap - works as well and should be available in any urban environment. Despite of the bad smell, rubbing alcohol (Brennspiritus) is pure ethanol and can be used too.
    Stay safe and healthy

    I love that bag. Just the right size for an EDC. Other things I have put in mine was spare money, along with a roll of quarters. You never know when you might need money for public transportation, vending machines, etc. Not all emergencies are the same. Always assume that you may need emergency cash. Heck, it can even be used for emergency fuel for a car if one is far from home. Also a credit card or spare bank card if possible. It has come in handy for me a few times, and thankfully so!

    I like to carry 1 cup of “InstaMorph” in my pack for any unexpected fixes, repairs ect. It’s a thermoplastic in the form of small bb’s. But all you need is hot water if 150°F and it’s soft between a clay an playdoh. And can be stretched an flattened or rolled into anything you could do with a playdoh. And hardens into a really hard but not brittle, any shape thickness or whatever. Make handles, containers, use as a formable cordage the uses are limitless. Whatever the mind could think up or you could need or repairs. Just anything. Anyone that don’t know about that stuff should really look into it. An weighs nothing. Aside from that. If one use is done. Throw it back in the pack. 150° water you can remelt an stretch it into whatever else is needed in the moment. Unlimited uses an reusable as much as you can. It’s not sticky or nothing like that. It’s like a taffy when melted but slick. And. DIRT CHEAP. and a couple spoon fulls goes a really long way. A cup full is a lot.

    Bc you're a beginner in a sense. Duct tape a razor blade, keychain flashlight and other things inside your baggy trousers. Have doubles of what's in you hidden on your bag. Gummy bears! A bag of this sugar boost is something you'll need. Again hide things on your body/clothing. Get pepper spray too.

    When I shop at my local discounters stores I always go into the bug out survival bag section and check out the backpacks. You never know when SHTF and we need to be off and running for shelter and safety. You want a strong and durable bag that can withstand the abuse nature can throw at it. Wiping down the bag daily can also help to extend its life and ruggedness. Heavy padding inside is key for laptops, cameras, etc.

    I would highly recommend you get some trauma gear if that’s allowed. Some Combat Gauze, Chest Seals and a tourniquet would be great additions to your bag. I know you can improvise a tourniquet and that’s good to know, but please don’t rely on only that. If you have a bad wound you have mere seconds to stop the bleeding. 30-40 bucks for Gen 7 CAT Tourniquet is a small price to pay to save your life. Also one other point, if anyone around you has guns or something ranged like a bow and arrow I wouldn’t have a tactical bag. Just says you have more stuff with you and makes you a target. Low vis/grey man is the way to go.

      I keep a small medical kit with me that is different but along the same lines.
      SAM splint, maxi pads (I'm a guy, but these make great bandages), gause, tape, tounequet strap, scissors, airway kit, bent needle and thread, pen light, gloves and a cpr face shield.
      No camo, bright orange is my preference. Sounds like a lot of stuff but packs away small and note that I have some training nremt-b, combat lifesaver.
      In a more isolated or remote application I would add IV saline to the kit.
      It is most important to know how and when to use these and the first step is always to call for help. Know how to make a this call, sounds stupid, but realistically many hunters\campers\hikers have died because they failed at this first and most important step.

    • @alaskabornheathen8902
      @alaskabornheathen8902 4 года назад

      All4Grogg of course a bigger trauma kit is never a bad thing. I just kinda recommended what I did as a bare minimum. If you get shot by a hunter or you get a stick through your leg you’re going to want to stop that bleeding quick. I too carry more than I just recommended. Daily carry kit is pretty small but I have much more capable kits in my vehicles. That is fantastic you have training. I did 4 years of first aid/cpr/AED training in high school. On my own I’ve looked around to see how you pack wounds and how you use a tourniquet. SkinnyMedic provides some great content on the Trauma end of things.

    I can't find sanitizer anywhere, so I started making it at home out of 70% alcohol and polyacrylate 'crystals' made for flower arranging. Just put the crystals in a container with the alcohol, wait for it to all be absorbed, and if your crystals are too large and chunky, just liquify them with a hand blender, and bingo, Alcohol gel. Not perfect, but it works just as well.

    Hi Lilly! could you put a small GPS tracker in the backpack? For ex: Let's say, in an escape situation you have to toss the backpack quickly in the night to only come back the next day and might not remember exactly where you toss it...? The GPS would come in handy!! Cheers!

    you should put hair ties around your flashlight handles! for one it will give you a soft fabric area to grab when its cold (so your skins not touching the cold metal body of the flashlight) but also you can wrap the flashlight around your glasses leg so it will be on your face and allow you to see at night hands free

    Seems like you have a lot of stuff that will either never be used, or is there for perhaps interest more than need, in your pack. Why carry a defense pen when you can cut off a walking stick for example.

    That small strong flashlight looks like an Olight. If it is, when you press the switch and hold it , the light should come on in moonlight mode, which would allow you to check your eye, or someone else's.

    Pliers are Tång, the Pincett that you have is called tweezers in English. Have you covered dangers of insect bites in the wild? I have recently had a tick bite in the back of my knee that went unnoticed and may have given me a disease (waiting for test results). Carrying tweezers would be vital for removing a tick.

    There's a micro-lantern from the States that I suspect you may wamt to consider for your edc bag. It's called SplashFlash. It is very durable, frugal with power and has a domed, frosted lens that distributes a useful beam throughout a wide field.
