- With winter bearing down on us, there's no time to waste! In this video, we take our John Deere 9460RT and Lemken Karat 10 out in the middle of a snowstorm to finish working the ground before it freezes solid. The snow is falling hard, and the conditions are tough, but we're determined to get the job done.
Watch as we tackle slippery fields and freezing temps to prepare the soil for next season. Can the equipment handle the challenge? Will we beat the freeze? Come along for a day of winter farming and see what it takes to keep the operation moving forward no matter the weather.

It would be miserable!
@@RockyMountainFarmer But grandpa did it!
Drone footage was wild.
Glad you enjoyed it
❤ from Norway
Thanks for watching
Live to see the brown/white stripes in the field. Im sure youd rather the white part come later though.
Luckily it didn’t slow us down too much.
Red tractors would show up better in the snow!!!! Keep up the good work. Cheers from Bundaberg Australia
They might, but all these green tractors are paid off, so I was just gonna keep running them. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
It is pretty cool to cultivate when its snowing. You would have to experience it to understand. 😊
It is pretty awesome
Oreo cookie field 😊
Haha right
Be a cool Shirt Idea . The American Flag made outta those passes with the tractor pulling out the stripe. So like a small Tactor on last stripe with
Your logo under that.
That’s a pretty good idea!
Thanks for your excellent video.
Why not have the ripper shanks in front of the disk blades.
The ripper shanks go deeper than the disk blades and bring up the bigger clods.
Since the ripper shanks brings up the rougher clods, so the disk blades would cut the clods up if the shanks were in front of the blades.
That’s kinda like a dmi but this does a better job.
😊👍
Glad you enjoyed it
i hate side rollers , started having flash backs of being a kid and dealing with them
that is wild how deep you are going and still getting the groud plant able with a deep tillage tool that wandering you are dealing with is just a 2 track thing you heard of the g body shuffle that wandering is the 2 track shuffle
Yeah it’s working pretty well. Dispite the wander.
A snowy farming adventure sounds magical! Imagine the crunch of fresh snow under massive tractor tires and harvesters pushing through frosty fields. What’s your favorite part of farming in winter?
My favorite part is a the brisk air.
I live in Iowa. The weather for Thanksgiving looks cold. High in the 20s and the lows in the single digits. A lot of anhydrous being applied now.
Yeah it’s going to be a cold one here too.
Would it be better to go perpendicular with the 2nd time over to the first time?
We usually do that in the spring
When y’all take a mature hay field and turn it over for next year’s spud crop; do y’all see a slightly better crop of spuds ?
Reason for asking: the only potatoes I grow is in my garden, which would be about a total of 800’. And whenever I turn hay ground into spuds, our crop is usually a lot better than normal.
Just wondering if all the organic matter helps out, somehow.
Thanks
Alfalfa hay is a nitrogen fixing plant so when we put potatoes in after alfalfa, the potatoes do a lot better because there’s a lot more nitrogen in the ground.
Just curious where you are located in Co. I'm on the western slope myself. Always interested in knowing locations of my fellow Coloradans. Thanks
We are actually in East Idaho.
@@RockyMountainFarmer Nice! I've been looking at ID. to possibly move to. Great vid. Thanks
Does lempkin make a ripper that you guys can buy
I don’t know if they do or not but we haven’t used a Raper in a long time so I don’t know if we would buy one
Then I was working for a farmer we plowed snow under an that was the best crop the next year
It is nice to get the moisture in the ground
Why wouldn’t you go 6-10 degrees angle first then back straight like north /south or east/ west ?
We usually do that in the spring
Are you in eastern Idaho
Yes we are
When was this? We still have no snow in Utah.
This was about a week ago
@@RockyMountainFarmer we had fain last night but clear today.
Looks like a bumper cotton crop 😂
Yeah it kinda does
Am still wishing to see a flag flying on your equipment.
It’s going to have to wait till next year. We are basically done now.
