Monsanto was on the move even then. i still remember being 9 years old riding my bike past the Howell's homestead down to the lake where there was a pier with tires on both sides. There WERE no paved roads, just dusty red clay roads. no lights at night, so you could see a million stars. it was a beautiful untouched place. i came back in 1983 and all the dusty roads were gone - cabins too. saw nothing but highway. i miss guntersville and some of the people i knew.
