Harsh combos is one of the reasons a lot of people including myself messed up. Ufd and ICH seized our strands together and we thought it was normal. No more for me! Both those stylers go better paired with different products.

And yet BGC swears by this combo! I've always been confused by that since velcro-ing has been a common complaint among some users. I'm terrified to use it for that reason and instead use KCCC as my base gel.

Girl never a truer word were spoken at least for me. I used that combo exactly one time and that was it. A lot of people love it, but it was an absolute no. It wasn't just the drag upon application it was also how hard it left my hair. UFD is fine but the ICH doesn't work in my hair.

I do like ICH but with the right water based gel under it. I have made it work. However, it’s not a gel I would push as there are better options. UFD was a fail and I stopped trying to make it work.

You are so right about washing more frequently! I find it helps decrease my detangling time as well.

I feel like people who have a silky, shiny surface texture can use less UFD. I also have to use a lot of that product to get slip even if my hair is sopping wet. I would like to add that over drying could also be a culprit. I’ve noticed better moisture retention when I dried my hair with lower heat. I also incorporate “micro plopping” where I gently blot out moisture as much as I can before sitting under the hooded dryer.

This video was right on time. Thank you! I had been wondering lately if wash n goes would hinder length retention in the long run…I definitely feel like I have been over drying my hair when using the hooded dryer especially since I wash 2x week

I live in Southern California and my hair loves that combo, UFD & ICH. I wash my hair every 4-5 days and haven’t experienced any issues. I also love CurlMix 4 step using Heavy Hold or Ultra Gel. I’ve also tried CurlMix finishing mousse, layered gel/mousse/gel great combo.

Thank you so much for this. I’ve been wearing primarily wash and gos for almost 8 years now as well and have been actively honing my technique and hair care and with all the different thoughts going around right now it’s been a lot to sift through. I really needed to hear this video and encouragement. I love your channel and recently found it and your tips and thoughts have been helping me tremendously over the past few weeks. Thank you 🙏🏽

Your last point is why I stopped using eco 😭 gel cast would break and feel AWFUL! And I certainly stopped using combos that were inviting me into the boxing ring. Still, I'm definitely could be a more gentle detangler 😅

Hi First time hearing about you!! I wish I can do a wash n go. As Ex-Military, Army, I washed my hair everyday or every other day because we worked out everyday! I moisturized, moisturized, moisturized!! I had a relaxer! My hair grew thicker with the daily or every other day washing!! No breakage! Now. I just keep it braided and wash my hair once a week! I would like to do something different like a wash n go but my hair is so thick and coily, I do not know what products would work!! But thanks for sharing!!

Great video! I’ve started incorporating some kind of protein weekly, especially since I have fine strands it’s needed! I’ve been using The Kure line from Amika and it has done wonders for my hair.

It is certainly necessary to shampoo more frequently when wearing a WnG. IMHO a week is the max and more than that is setting oneself up for a lot of tangling and breakage. I used to shampoo once a week, but my dermatologist recommended it twice a week after my CCCA diagnosis. I've found that it not only helps my scalp but it has been a great benefit for my WnG. Another thing that I've found to be helpful is adding a bond builder. I use one every other month and it keeps my coils springy and happy.

Amazing content!!🎉 Subscribed with all your notifications activated, don't wanna miss a thing. May i ask, do you have to deal with high humidity? I live in Puerto Rico and the humidity here is almost insane all year around🤷🏾‍♀️.

I want to become a regular wng wearer but feel like I could only do it in the warmer mos b/c the winter is so cold and dry and I feel like it would be very detrimental to my strands.

You might have to switch to a different product regimen to wash and go in the winter months.

Genuine question: Why do people use two gels for wash and go's? Is it for hold? Is it to make the hair hang longer or something? No judgement, I just want to know.

    • @WhatTheKink
      @WhatTheKink  3 месяца назад +7

I don’t feel any judgement from this comment. You’re good! lol.
Typically the gels are two TYPES. The first type is humectant heavy and has a light-medium hold. If you were to go outside with this kind of gel, you’d wonder why your hair felt wet-like or gummy. In less humid environments these tend to leave the hair just soft. The fact that this is a gel helps begin the defining process like old school curl activator. 😂
If you pick cream products with hold ingredients, they’ll do a similar job as the first gel.
The second type of gel is usually for hold, extra clumping, and humidity protection. So, what we usually use gel for. I go for one with a medium-strong hold for this job.

I like UFD as a base gel with lots of H2O & Kinky Curly Custard as a topper even over CRN Curl Maker. Ouidad Advanced Strong Hold Gel (red design) is another great topper gel. A little of these as topper gels goes on a long way. Be well.
