holymsophy same man. Played 1 and 2 so many times my eyes probably bled. But 3? After that ending I could never look at the series the same again. Plus EA locked 2/3rds of the game behind a pay wall (Omega, Leviathan), as well as From Ashes, which should have been a part of the base game/story, but wasn’t because of EA’s greed. Fuck EA. @MusicisLife8393 Oh yeah Garrus and Wrex were always my combo in ME1. They're the OG dream team. I love how much Wrex and Garrus contrast each other in so many ways.
In ME2 I always brought Garrus and Jacob. Not a big fan of Jacob but I like him better than Miranda. I always always bring Garrus with me, and the other character that I choose is always heavily involved in the main storyline. That's mostly why I never pick Tali. She's alright but she and the Quarians are kind of irrelevant imo, they're always minding their own business when they aren't involved with the Geth.

    • @toakovika

When I first played 2 after completing 1, having saved the Rachni, Council, and Ashley, I expected the sequel to have my old crew backing me up, recruiting new faces and grieving the one we lost..
Then the intro happened and I end up on a replica Normandy with two Cerberus agents I trusted about as far as I could throw. Meeting Liara, Wrex, and Ash only to find they wouldn’t rejoin me so I would have a trustworthy face was heartbreaking. You can bet the moment I found Garrus, I clinged to him as the one trustworthy person on board besides Joker and Dr. Chakwas. The one person I knew would follow me into battle with no ulterior motives.
Once I rescued Tali, I kept both of them as close as possible. The other crewmembers grew on me, though it took most of the game for me to trust Miranda. Now? I see them as pretty trustworthy once I tell the Illusive Man to leave me and my ship alone, but god, during the early hours of the game, I would not run into battle or go *anywhere* without the faithful 2 by my side.

If anything, they delivered GREAT Sci-Fi, sucked me into the story line, and made me care about these fictional characters (no small feat). The name Mass effect may have some other origins as you stated in this video but its generally accepted that it refers to the mass relays being able to change the "mass" of any given object with element zero in it, its refering to the technologys literal "effect" on the mass, which then enables faster than light travel as your mass is reduced to zero and hypothetically stops interacting with photons.

The calm music as you talk to Vigil, learning about the extinction of the Protheans, the statues across the level, the life pods on the walls, the message that plays when restoring power to the complex "cannot be stopped. CANNOT BE STOPPED".

The combat never got in the way, but it wasn't why people played mass effect. The world, the characters, the story all of those were highlights. ME2 took everything 1 did and made it better. I still wish they had taken the systems that made everything you did in 2 matter for the final battle and did that on a galactic scale for the end of 3. @BallinButAtWhatCost725 3 года назад +1

I bought the whole trilogy last year to pass time during quarantine after my ps4 broke, best decision I’ve ever made when it came to games. Previously I’d only really played Mass Effect 3, I absolutely adored the game and the world it was in, it was in my top 10 games of all time even. So on a whim I decided to try out the rest of the Mass Effect trilogy and oh my god I loved it. Mass Effect 1 wasn’t my favorite, it was kinda slow and took quite a bit of effort to push through, but that effort made me more invested in the characters and story. But Mass Effect 2? I’d say that’s my favorite game of all time, the characters, the story, the decisions you make, I didn’t want Mass Effect 2 to end, but it did, and I’ve never felt so many emotions for a game before in my life. I started Mass Effect 3 but it just wasn’t the same, and I stopped playing after the Cerberus coup.
Now I’m back playing 1 again, my ps3 broke and with it went my save files, but I love Mass Effect so much, even 1 and 3, that I’ll put all that time into it again. Infact I found this video looking for good background music while I’m playing.
Sorry about the random rant but your story reminded me so much of mine that I just wanted to share.

I got into the series fairly recently while I was looking for a new game to play in general. Mass Effect 2 was free on Origin maybe 3 years ago and I mentioned it to a few coworkers who told me it was a trilogy and I'd enjoy it more that way than by itself. I took their advice and signed up for Origin Access and got to play all 3. I loved the game for it's story, the relationships that I formed with friends and lovers, and that my decisions had consequences that followed my Shepard through every game. I loved the journey even though the ending could have been done better. I added mods for the ending so it would be more like I envisioned. Andromeda had many faults but the combat was awesome, even if the story wasn't as good as the original. I can't wait to see what the next Mass Effect brings.

I wouldn't say no to a Guardians of the Galaxy game using the building blocks of the mass effect trilogy. Like, if you could add the ability to properly fly the ship in space and make the tone more campy/comedic it would be a perfect space opera rpg.

For me Mass Effect was the closest I ever got to playing a Star Trek simulator. Which is probably the #1 game I've always wanted. You know something that is the Sims + Mass Effect + Sea of Thieves or something like that.
I was excited to play Andromeda but the fact that I have yet to beat it proves that it lacks the draw that the original had. Perhaps if EA had continued to work on it post launch it would have one day lived up to it's potential but they chose to abandon it which bodes very badly for the franchise as a whole.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 very good, maybe the best. But BioWare produced many other good rpgs such as Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Jade Empire, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, etc.

    • @iakona23
      @iakona23 5 лет назад +3

Stephen Kuhn Thank you. you are quite right. I knew that, but somehow I thought that BioWare published KOTOR 2. But it was published by Lucas Arts. Obsidian is also a good developer. Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity are examples of their quality work. I hope that the new owner Microsoft does not ruin them like EA ruined BioWare.

The story was the biggest selling point and how in this immense story each character had their own massive arc in that story! It felt, as the video said, REAL in a lot of ways. Garrus, for example and easily my favorite character, has a lot of depth that you may or may not uncover based on how you interact with him. Its just great. I'd honestly give each game in this franchise a 10/10 or at the minimim 9.5. And i could go on for weeks about it just gushing the entire time!

You are spot on as to the reasons why this was so successful, at least for me. The storyline, choices, building up your team and friendships and romances, the many species introduced and the outcomes are all of what cements this game in my heart.
