"I may have gone too far but we're just getting started" ; words you'll probably only hear in the creative industry...
Or in an episode of Dexter
DREW lmao. True
Standup comedy comes to mind.
I actually laughed when he said that
I was going to write exactly this if no one else had LOL
Man that breathy double really makes it
"Makes it"?? LOL
Singer Sade would record breathe tracks
I really enjoyed that part at 7:15 where it's just quiet. Feels like you're sitting next to him in a chair and watching him doing his daily work.
The vast majority of music listeners do not comprehend the contribution of Tony Maserati and how many long days he works without much recognition. Tony has a thankless job but his pride in his work keeps him motivated and employed.
And the money..that usually motivates
You know he doesn't work for free right...
Love when mix engineers have a slow pace and a thoughtful process. Great video 👨🏽🌾
Wow the effect the bv de-essing had on the lead vocal was instantly noticeable, great tip!
@zachary ustinovich The other way around. You take out the "esses" from the BG vox (to some extend). This has the effect of letting the BG seem further away from you and thus the lead seems more upfront. BTW don't confuse "esses" with breathiness. It's not the same thing ;).
it's just psychoacoustics bro
@@DanielGarrickMusic if you take too much of the s out, then you'll end up with a very unnatural sounding lisp.
"we really don't need more than one ass" (Maserati, Tony)
Lucas Parisi hahahaha very funny
Does the Hook L and R beeing copied or seperate recorded? They look really the same but I don't think they just copied?
@@youngwhitefresh9220 I was just asking myself the same question ! Hope we'll get an answer !
@@lermitenyour8940 I think they are not. I've looked closer, they recorded twice for shure. But they in stereo there.
@@youngwhitefresh9220 Thank you !
Outside voice: “let’s see what we can do”
Inside voice: “delete”
5:35 - "I may have gone too far...But we're just getting started."
Words to live by
I like when he shows us stuff we initially cannot hear... and then... once you hear it.. you can't unhear it thereafter!👍
i feel good about myself when he says some things i already figured out from experience
Tony: Talks about polishing vocals.
Me: Looks at those massive plugins list and wonder, how many of those were torrented.
Zero.
I think ProTools forces you to see all plugins in the plugin list, even the ones that are demo / trial ones, that may have come along with the ones you've bought or something. At least that's the case in my school. It's a total pain in the ass to try to find something that actually works (that they own a license to).
@@JiihaaS They dont have like a favorites category? i Use live and its a pain unless you add your plugins in a fav folder
I don't think one of the best engineers in the world in a pro studio is going close to bootleg plugins - Tony even has his own Waves Plugins ..
@@EsaShaheed Nope. That's why I'm back on Cubase and not Pro Tools. You can't rearrange your plugins. Also you can't edit the keyboard shortcuts.
In few minutes, he made it sound better!
We have many things to learn from that man!
This is why the D.A.W. doesn't matter. You must know what things are and what they do so you know how to use them regardless of the D.A.W. He literally did something with a vocal that we weren't evem thinking about and created a new vocal and an effect "at the same damn time!" 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Beautiful work.
im pretty sure dude has a deep, dark, disturbing secret
KeyChange
👏👏👏
I’m crying 😂😂🤣
he pirated most them plugins lol thats why he looks worried lmao
@A D someone deleted my comment lmao
@A D damn that dude took notice, he probably going to find my adress homie, help me
I think it's great that he used basic/free plugins for this considering everything he has at his fingertips.
He just advertises the Waves company, obviously…
Awesome to see how Mr. Maserati works with Background vocals. Thanks for sharing Tony. =)
Trust me! So much cherishable information within this 9 min video. There is nothing to left out
4:38 - Tony will teach you how to tame the temptation of cheating on your Girls!
LOL =D
LMAO
Ajjajajajjajaj
Maybe my ear can’t discern if an ass is out of time but my eye sure can
😂😂😂😂😂😂
One of my favourite mixers!
One of the best engineers in the world. We love you Tony!
The rough vocals looks like my mine after 1 h of mixing. Oh my.
Thank you for helping me get better add this and distinguishing harmonies
thats pretty cool to see the professionals using the doubler and bf-76.
Can we get a master class on how to navigate through THAT many plugins?
"I don't think I need a third double,".... until Wendy's drive thru
Thanks Tony for your knowledge!!!
Thank you for the breath take edit! Imma use that on my lead whisper
rocking the classic Waves, love it...
That has been recorded well
Baraka cleaned very well and on time too!
children alibs behind her chorus would have made this a billboards top 40 hit. nice mix TONY you really gave life to the song.
Thanks for this. Actually really applicable to metal background vox.
Thank you Tony..Right on with everything.
That studio looks like a cross between a rich Italian home and "The Law Offices of Maserati & Maserati". Beautiful, nevertheless.
I know I would love to have an opportunity to see the place myself someday! And this mix is FIRE! The song is SO catchy!!!
the best mixing asmr ever
Good day sir,i always love your tutorials...God bless you
His voice is amazing
I was doing lead vocals only without backup singing and I did the classic choir from Ez Voice because I love singing.
Yeah that's some surgical level thinking you can recognize even at more a novice level... Tony M you surely make decisions with focus and purpose, but the years of experience stands out even more in your foresight.... what a great rounding off of vocal frequencies (HPF really did help produce that breathy layer that wasn't intelligible the same before)... Not my kind of music, but it's amazing how my ear wanted to listen to the boundaries you set once you were onto the next step... sweet stuff!
King maserati
Awesome mix advice, thanks!
Brodie is mixing some shit that was already recorded damn near perfect
This man really spred some charisma
This song is so catchy
Super informative, great detail thanks!
K Flay! Finally an album I know during a masterclass
The voices reminded me of Lorde at some point, I believe she does that in her songs
Tony is a legend
This looks like it was shot at La Fabrique in the south of France. Had the pleasure of recording there
Jordan Pass really? That studio is the stuff of dreams.
enjoying these videos
I'd like to see a session with a big "Journey" style chorus....
Thank You Tony Maserati and Mix With the Masters 🙌🙌Very Helpful Video🔥🔥.
With this guy i can win every award no lie
He’s more of a sculptor than a mixer. It always makes more sense to go off feeling than numbers and ratios
That stick compressor is amazing inside it all the time
Thanks for sharing!
It sounds great!
Great vid, appreciate it!
I'm here like: "Tony. Hey Tony. You didn't copy that De-esser from the left track. You forgot the Alt-key. Hey. Tony. The left one doesn't have that de-esser. Alt-drag."
Kevin Croner ahah ! Same here
Yeah, I heard that - but what he's doing is de-essing the Left and the Right double. When he's satisfied he drags the de-esser from the Left track to some other Stereo double/harmony, which I'm pretty sure was a mistake. The only "s" you'd want is the Lead in the center, for certain not just one on the left.
Joshua Cruz helps control all the S sounds by removing harsh Ss
Meanwhile Kevin Croner is a name no one even knows 😂😂😂😂
Oh, cool! I just met a bunch of super successful producers commenting on RUclips!
EXCELLENT!! Thanks ever so much!! :)
Super video.Thanks
Andy Garcia mixing!!! WOW!
its really productive thanks
Always artistic. Great!
beautiful
You guys need to get Serban Ghenea on here, the guy who mixed pretty much all the big radio pop records. The mix on the new Ariana Grande song is very nice!
Serban will not and should not ever be interviewed. What he does is insane and must be witchcraft. He should keep his methods secret and keep them forever!!!! Hell, the only thing we know about him is he uses Metric Halo Channelstrip.
@@skylerfelix7609 he should make a video revealing everything he knows and set for it to be released 60 years after he dies.
@@skylerfelix7609 lollll
we know a bit more than that. He also does the bandpass thing.

thanks i will practice this
Its official. The ''In your face'' effect is the official term.
We just started our label last year but I've been mixing my own backgrounds and doing it for other artists for years. It's different with every artists voice but panning, eq, efx and timing is everything. If you've ever heard an A cappella of Michael Jackson's backgrounds it will make you work harder. LOL
True. Mj back up vocals are so nice. But i noticed he doesent overuse it only for chorus i think.
Yes and also broke every rule in the game, he was stomping, moving his body, snapping through out most of his songs! A true king!
I think one of the big problems today is artists use the best chorus and copy and paste it to all choruses. The shelf life of modern music is short because it is the flaws and differences that make things interesting.
Tnx 4 tips...Great Sir
That is a great track. K. Flay's got a new fan
Very good, thank you
Tony Maserati is a genius
K. Flay is the shit. Very familiar with the song. Nice to know how it was done.
The sheer number of eq plugins is astounding.... Damn...
I Love him
normally these tutorials have a terrible song as the template, but i am really digging this track (k flay: dreamers)
Appreciate the tips.. 👌🏿
Learnt alot from your video, im an aspriring producer, you got any tips for me on what plug ins i might need to start with?
I met you at the Hit Factory back in the day I was working as GA
good work
Tnx 4 tips Tony...
With this prepared tracks i could easily be Tony Maserati
i LOVE this :)
nice to hear them do a different kind of music
Tony Maserati actually owns a Honda
i love waves de aasser...
When are you releasing the whole series on RUclips?? Or making it affordable for musicians!?? 😩😩
de-essing (My Way 2 Do it), take the wave file cut and lower the hisss... replay 2 judgement , a lot quicker than playing with plugin
Dope!
Nice! Simple and usefull
i have something that has been troubling me for years now, anytime iam mixing a song,i reduce individual tracks down to -10 db den imix my vocals with the c4 compressor, how will i avoid distortion during mastering @mix with the masters
Cool!
set playback to x2
*you're welcome*
Thanks
Dat BF-76 my fav..To see u use dat..Kudos my guy😂
Protools have to fix that ALT thing. You have to click alt first but not when in midi. Should be able to press alt mid click. The oldest pt bug.
Buenísimo me gusta 👍. Me suscribo.
I got too excited when I seen it was K Flay 😍😍 this is my favorite song by her
