He like's what he does as a starting out Technician, but his biggest dilemma is space. Space for more tool's as the job requirement's grow. I talked to Rylan off line and share my thought's on the matter. I just bought a 55 inch snap on box for 900 dollars! Used box in candy apple red with no top, a classic 78. A ridiculously good box for that price. Im a beginner tech in trade school and have a lube tech job at a local dealer. Im sure i want to be in this industry and finding this box was an absolute blessing. Im in love with it so far.

I started as a lube/tire tech and my first box was a harbor freight 4 drawer cart. When I started accumulating tools (98% harbor freight) I went next door to Lowe’s and the bottom part of a dual chest setup and took the cart apart and set the box on top.... a few weeks later I went and bought the top part of the box. I got a bigger box and had accumulated more tools as I started doing more brake, suspension, and alignment work. Now at this same shop we had a general service tech (tire and lube) that had snap on everything including the big green snap on box, the guy must have lived with his parents because I’m sure all his money went to snap on. There’s no need to spend all that money just to be a tech.

I come from the industrial maintenance side, transitioning in automotive/diesel taking classes building experience working part time as a lube tech and taking classes. In my experience you accumulate a lot of tools very quickly if you work in a mechanical field. You do want something to grow into. You have to consider wether you stay in one spot or you are permanently assigned to a bay, that influences your decision on a box too. Also consider your work area and the amount of space you are allotted to. Everyone has preferences. My advice is shop around, don't settle. Buy the best you can afford that you like and suites you! People will advise you to get only a HF cart some will advise you to get the most expensive box. Im not gonna lie those ICON boxes are a pretty sweet deal for anyone. With Snappy, MAC, MATCO, and Cornwell you have more options. When you invest in a box be pragmatic about it.

It is the joint as in one jaw is part of the lower joint (this is the fixed jaw) and the other is part of the upper part of the joint (this jaw is the moving jaw). what happen is plastic bit get between the moving jaw and the joint which can miss aline the cutting jaw so they no longer cut.

As far as your scan tool goes. I don't see people telling Eric O or Flat Rate Master they are stupid for buying the expensive scan tools and no one should be saying that to you.. The guys that do that and think everyone is beneath them usually don't know as much as they want everyone to think they know. They put the attention on someone else to keep it off of them. After all of this time, I own a S/O classic 78, a master series 72" box, and I still have my 3 tier set up from the 1970's. Believe or not, it's still not enough storage and a bunch of older tools for older cars sits in 6 cardboard boxes! So, spend wisely, save money and you'll do okay.

As a lub tech you shouldn't need many tool and that goes for the first year or so moving into there service side so those storages should be more then adequate. if that money is tide up paying off a expensive tool box early you might not have that money to pay for that 1 or few tool to make those first few jobs that the service side give you to make it easy/fast/profitable up front.

Depends on how many tools you have at home, are you working on cars at your house or just the occasional home project, do you do anything with woodworking, metalworking or fabrication, do you have other hobbies that involve any use of handtools, how many handles do you have. And so on and so forth when it comes down to price color size and security features; that is all up to you the person buying it. Lots of great alternatives out there if you do not want a tool truck brand, and you can also find barely used tool truck brand toolboxes on craigslist or let go for really cheap

Personally disagree on the stainless top, overpriced particle board that the screws will strip out in and the particle board will bow up on the edges butcher block is much better bang for the buck and anyone with a drill and drill bit set and long flat blade screwdriver can get into anybox😂

I have those flush cutters. They are fa-king mint. 👌. I yanked the the spring. I cut wire occasionally with em. 14 g. Lube techs can spend there money on whatever they want but you look kinda stupid in the shop when you have a lifer box and you drain oils. Don’t get me wrong nice boxes. But I got into the trade to make money not spend it all on the tools needed to maintain my job. Just buy quality tools. Whatever that may be to you.

Can’t afford that fancy boy Knipex flush cutters. :-) Have some O’reilly Titan flush cutters and use them only for zip ties. Best $5 I ever spent. No more scrapes and cuts.

No you need tools you dont need a big shiny box it wont help you turn a wrench or make money. Buy your tools and stay the he'll away from snap on as a lube tech you dont need it for oil and tires

Don't buy the snap on box they no longer warrenty them like they used to, even when the tool man says I will warrenty it. He will be gone or retire, just signs of times.

You will be mad at yourself using flush cutters for wire cutters, I’ve tried cutting different size wire, it ruins them, we cut the tails off all our zip ties and they last

Great rant! Is it me, or is Jeff getting a little saltier in the last couple videos? Haha.

No. Haha a lube tech should not buy a Snap-on box, unless it's because he really likes it, ore he works at a high prestigious place that requires him top of the notch everything.
