Road Warriors are still my favorite tag team of all time. Probably helps I remember reading articles about them in wrestling magazines in the mid 80's. Good times.
I would have to play it to make that call. Honestly, when I played Royal rumble back in the day, that’s the only mode that I played! You know some games that have all of these features but you only play one mode?
Does anyone else remember Mat Mania in the arcades back in the early 80's around 83-85? All I could remember about the game was that I pumped quarter after quarter into the game and that the third opponent was Coco Savage. Well I ended up finding it on the eshop a while back and it brought back the memories in a tidal wave. Not the greatest wrestling game, but it was one of my favorite games when I was eleven years old.
I was going to put that on the thumbnail lol but I was like, I don’t even wanna risk hurting the game by putting the words WWE 2K18 near it, this has effort and a lot of it
Earlier in development someone asked them if they'd add create a wrestler, I think they said if the game got enough support (enough copies sold) that they might add it. Hopefully they do, I want an expanded roster with more legends.
Surely it's not a wrestling game if it doesn't have micro transactions? This does look sweet. Would like to see more 16 bit style (good) football games coming out. But its good to see wrestling finally getting its day in the sun again.
I have this game on Switch, the timing system is what frustrates me. Even on the easiest setting I get my ass handed to me. I just run sim matches in exhibition since I can't get the hang of the controls.
@@SwitchCorner I could be wrong but I dont think there's anyone that worked on this game , that worked on Wrestlfest. Also, the main guy behind this game got the "rights" to say this game is a sequel, but in truth its more of a spirtual sucessor. Either way, I'm looking forward to playing this. Fire Pro is still the GOAT, but this seems to be a nice arcadey wrestling game. Good for pick up and play.
Oh interesting really, I didn’t realize it wasn’t the same team or involvement. Interesting approach to pick up rights to state a sequel! Fire pro needs to come to the switch honestly, would love to see that happen!
I don’t wanna put out 25....I feel it will be on sale in a month. I still have work to do on wrestling empire. It’s definitely a perfect wrestlefest port. Nice sprites, great 2d game. It will be 9.99 soon, I feel that it’s value. Wish there was a demo.
Even with a big price tag I would buy this game with create a wrestler and custom options. I wish I knew more of these wrestlers. Hopefully a sequel gets bigger roster and custom additions.
I’ll be getting this, I loved Saturday night on SNES, to think this is probably the best wrestling game on Switch. Any chance they do a boxing or MMA game next?
Thank You for the review of retromania wrestling! I bought this game on release day but haven't gotten around to it yet. I always respect your reviews! Gonna jump into the game soon! Thanks again!
Love this game cant stop playing and my arm is hurting from all the hyper tapping im doing. You was spot on with the hard critiques it definitely can use more content. I still love it tho.
The game looks great and haven’t played a wrestling game really since the 90s. Hoping they add more characters and online multiplayer for sure because I don’t have many folks to play with locally these days.
Mike Hermann, the creator and architect of RetroMania Wrestling, seems to have bitten off *WAY* more than he can chew. He's made a shitload of promises but has only delivered on a couple. RMW was released on April 1st 2021, which should have been an obvious indication of things to come (or not come). Yes, the game was released on April Fool's Day, and we the fans are the ones who have been made the fools for believing Mike could deliver on the content that he had promised us. We were originally promised three wrestlers - Chris Bey, James Storm, and Mr. Hughes. In nearly three years since the game's release, we have received one wrestler, Chris Bey. We've also gotten a championship belt that can be used and fought for in exhibition, which is where fans are going to spend the majority of their time. We have also gotten a couple of new arenas, but none of them affect gameplay, so it's just whatever is aesthetically pleasing to the player. Mike seems to want to spend most of his time and effort creating and writing the story mode, which I think is the weakest part of the game. You have to play as Johnny Retro, so you can't play through the mode as the wrestler of your choice (unless, of course, you *WANT* to be Johnny Retro). The story is pretty straight forward. Every once in a while there are optional responses to questions you are asked, but your choices don't seem to affect the overall outcome. The fans just want what was promised - the remaining two wrestlers in James Storm and Mr. Hughes. On April 3rd 2023, Mike released a video on RUclips teasing the update and it was captioned with "update coming soon". I know soon is a relative term, but it is now January 11th; we are nine months into this update debacle. The way Mike made it sound we were going to get the update within a month, maybe two months; but here we are nine goddamn months later and still no update. Mike has also stopped responding to direct questions from fans - especially questions pertaining to the update. To me, nine months is *NOT* soon. Soon lies somewhere between the next day and maybe two or three months; *NOT NINE MONTHS!* I was patient for a long time, giving Mike and his very small team of devs and artists the benefit of the doubt. But at this point, I feel like this update is going to end up becoming vaporware. Why not just release the parts that are finished? Please give us James Storm and Mr. Hughes already. Surely they're finished. The second part of story mode can wait. Just release the parts that are finished. As far as new arenas go, they don't add a whole lot to the game for me. There are already around 20 different arenas to choose from. If you insist on adding new arenas, I would 100% prefer them to be fictional locations like Warhorse's arena. I would like one in like a spaceship or space station with aliens and robots making up the majority of the crowd... maybe having a window in the middle of the background showing black space with stars sprinkled on the black canvas. I have very little interest in real-life arenas. For the love of god, the fans are sick and tired of being jerked around with this update bullshit. Where is the update, Mike? Just tell us why it's taking so goddamn long. Did your devs and/or artists quit on you? You used to upload videos on RUclips fairly frequently, teasing the new additions included in the update. Just let us know why we still don't have it. Stop hiding from your responsibilities as the head of your company. You used to do developer diary videos during the game's development; why can't you make some for this update? Please, just talk to us, Mike. We are begging you. The RetroMania Wrestling community just wants the truth.
I love this game I just wish the sprites were bigger like wrestlefest. It's not quite as zoomed in as wrestlefest, it looks a bit more like the wwf superstars game
100% agree. Will wait till there is a physical copy. Hoping they can add a CAW mode as well. Give us a CAW mode and see what happens. As for me, until there is at least a CAW mode and/or physical copy this is a pass. I will keep my eyes on this one and see what they do with it as it is close to being a wrestling game I would love to add to my collection and play time and time again.
i really want to buy it but for £20 is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much for the content on offer. if it had create wrestlers etc then day one. but ill probably buy it day two out of principle
I’m really disappointed with this era of video games coming out not finished just with a promising pitch that concert will be added later. With a retro style game, I accept it more, but still..
What bothers me is the roster. I like the inclusion of the real world people, but I'd rather see them as bonus unlockables through the story mode and them given us double the amount of crazy looking made up characters or something. It almost feels like a bunch of these guys got together and thought it would cool to get themselves over in a video game, which for all I know may have been what happened. I'll most likely get it during a sale, but I'm not rushing at $30. Good review though.
The 16-Bit era was the worst time for wrestling games, not sure why they wouldn't just go the N64 era route and give us something similar to WrestleMania 2000 or No Mercy. The roster is also mediocre, the addition of the Road Warriors were good but the rest are just so random. C'mon y'all got some of the ECW guys like Stevie and Meanie here but can't get Sabu, RVD, or the Dudleyz?
Let's see...the graphics suck, the selection of characters sucks, and the controls suck. Hard pass, I'll stick with the Legends of Wrestling series, WWE All-Stars, and Legends of WrestleMania...
Why there's no Super power movie, 😢 I give it a shot, thanks for this honest review, btw there's a great fighting game released Yesterday for switch "Fighting layer ex" give us your opinion on it.

Also I say 20 years in the video. Make that 30..... I’m older but clearly not wiser. It was also late when I recorded this one
Road Warriors are still my favorite tag team of all time. Probably helps I remember reading articles about them in wrestling magazines in the mid 80's. Good times.
It looks gorgeous, but yeah, it needs more content. Definitely added to the wishlist though, thanks!
I would have to play it to make that call. Honestly, when I played Royal rumble back in the day, that’s the only mode that I played! You know some games that have all of these features but you only play one mode?
“Was it worth the 20 year wait?”
Don’t worry Alex. I also still wish the 1990s were only 20 years ago.

@@SwitchCorner lol, will surely give this a try, thanks for the review!
Only real thing missing would be create a wrestler because then you could have anybody you want in there
Earlier in development someone asked them if they'd add create a wrestler, I think they said if the game got enough support (enough copies sold) that they might add it. Hopefully they do, I want an expanded roster with more legends.
Looks pretty good.
As usual. To the wishlist you go.
Wait for decent discount we shall.

Great to see a lot of current and former Impact Wrestling wrestlers in this game as well.
I think it’s a solid varied line up here! I had to research a few of them honestly
Think I'll get this. Haven't played a wrestling game in over a decade but this looks great
It’s a blast, old school wrestling I’m a fan. This and wrestling empire are the best on switch dependent on the style you prefer
@@SwitchCorner I'll have a look at wrestling empire as well. This one reminds me of wrestlefest from back in the day. Stellar game
It’s a sequel to wrestlefest, same dev! Wrestling empire is N64 style
@@SwitchCorner I could be wrong but I dont think there's anyone that worked on this game , that worked on Wrestlfest. Reminds me of Royal Rumble I played on Sega! That story mode sounds cool.
Even with a big price tag I would buy this game with create a wrestler and custom options. I wish I knew more of these wrestlers. Hopefully a sequel gets bigger roster and custom additions.
This isn’t really on my radar to be honest, but I can definitely see fans enjoying this. It looks really well done. Thanks for the review.
I’ll be getting this, I loved Saturday night on SNES, to think this is probably the best wrestling game on Switch. Any chance they do a boxing or MMA game next?
I would love a boxing game for sure!
I think I'll have to pick this up. Love the old school wrastlin games.

I'd like to see a barbed wire type match
It’s a cool game. I got it yesterday. My only real gripe is the lack of wrestlers. But they do have Austin fucking Idol in it. Austin Idol!!!!
I need create a player in a wrestling game to really enjoy it.
I love this game I just wish the sprites were bigger like wrestlefest. It's not quite as zoomed in as wrestlefest, it looks a bit more like the wwf superstars game
LOVED WWF Superstars. I used to play that more than Wrestlfest. I actually liked the smaller sprites over Wrestlefest's.
Nice review for a great game. Given the price in the Eshop; I may wait a bit longer and invest in the Limited Run physical later this year.
100% agree. Will wait till there is a physical copy. Hoping they can add a CAW mode as well. Give us a CAW mode and see what happens. I really want the fire pro world from pc PS4 on the switch.
Fire Pro World, GOAT!! I have it on the PS4 but would double dip for the Switch version.
This looks better than WWE 2k20 😆
Definitely for the retro gamers this one! Btw are you going to review MH Rise soon? Cheers Alex!
i really want to buy it but for £20 is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much for the content on offer. if it had create wrestlers etc then day one. but ill probably buy it day two out of principle

I need this game! 😩
1991, 20 year wait. Have you been driving at 88mph and ended up in 2011?
Not being a fan of wrestling games I'll be passing on this, but I love the pixel graphics.
looks awsome! brings me back to snes wrestling games!
Game is lacking in every aspect and super short. 7/10 is a shill score. Its a 5 and that's being generous.
Can you create your own wrestler ?
don't we consider wwe battleground an "arcade wrestler/fighter?
not dismissing this. I just think they're the same "type" of game.
This game is awesome i dont want CAW retrosoft i dont this budget but i want many real wrestler in DLC ...

did you just say 1991 was 20 years ago?
Oh my god it was 30 wasn’t it lol 😭
Yes, yes it was and now I feel even older

Please keep your content and language clean and I’ll continue to be a subscriber.
Rare I slip up on the language front and no intentions to change that hear on RUclips! Also why I moved live stuff to twitch as well!
Well it's no Rumble Roses XX sadly...
Sweet.
Why does he turn green
Lol, call it a temperamental green screen at the time
🥇
Nah it's pretty whack.
Looks ok but I'm gonna pass
No online.......PASS
Let's see...the graphics suck, the selection of characters sucks, and the controls suck. Hard pass, I'll stick with the Legends of Wrestling series, WWE All-Stars, and Legends of WrestleMania...
And Wrestlefest. I still play that often. My favorite wrestling arcade game.
Why there's no Super power movie, 😢 I give it a shot, thanks for this honest review, btw there's a great fighting game released Yesterday for switch "Fighting layer ex" give us your opinion on it.
