Mekanism is the tech mod to end all tech mods. It has so many options and directions that it can be a bit overwhelming. Not to fear! This is the basics on how to get started on ore doubling and making that work for you to get your own automatic quarrying machine! ...and maybe a small helper too...

Couple notes on early game Mekanism: It's normally recommended to skip the heat generator entirely. You can put redstone dust in the battery slot of machines to charge them, performing one operation per dust. You can use this to create a wind generator very quickly, which is much stronger, and much easier to set up.
Additionally, since most of what you'll use carbon for in the Metallurgic Infuser is steel, it's recommended to make two carbon infusers, for a total of 4 infusers, with one carbon infuser outputting to the other, so that you can do both steps of steel production automatically.
I appreciate your information about steel production! I hadn't thought to make a stand alone system to automatically process steel! Sounds great to just be able to dump some carbon and iron then go! Thank you

What's the trick to finding osmium ore? It feels so rare that I can barely make any progress in the game. I posted this in another comment but last night I was playing around with this mod I ended up with *31* diamonds and ~20 osmium ingots! I tried at around layer 60 all the way to the bottom for *hours*. I was making no progress at all in the mod. What's with the INSANE amount of copper from vanilla minecraft? I had countless of stacks of copper and barely any iron. Feels like I've done something wrong? I'm playing 1.19.2.
@@huldu I know nothing about 1.19.2, latest version of Mekanism I've used is 1.16, but Osmium is a very rare ore in real life, and very common in the Mekanism versions I've played. It's possible it was changed around since 1.16, but in my experience, usually the issue is that some other mod tries to "fix" the rarity of osmium and Mekanism becomes really hard to use because of it.
For the new players: Charcoal also works in the metallurgic infuser when you want to make steel, so if you don't have a ton of coal for some reason, you can cook up some wood logs and toss that into the machine. You're going to need a LOT of steel.
Has this layout been patched?
I've seen a couple of people saying that they cannot find any of the generators. So for those people, please make sure that you did install the official Generators add-on of this mod.

Yes! Mekanism has been my favorite mod in the newer 1.15/1.16 packs, and I can't wait until you get to the more complex stuff! I do hope that you don't stop with these tutorials after the Digital Miner, just because there's so much more to Mekanism.

man, Valen is great at tutorials, whenever i have a choice i usually go to him first. he explains things in an easy way to understand. came for the digital miner, and learned i was using the heat generator inefficiently. lol
Thank you for this. So many atm videos just skip over things so quickly you don't really learn much about what things do.
12:00 one good advice is to start by upgrading energy upgrades, then upgrading your machine to factories and then if you really need the speed , add it. By the time you'll want speed instead of having 9 processin slots, you'll probably have enough energy to not care anymore

Soon as you get the digital miner and a good ore processor set up, you are pretty much all set up to start working on a Fission reactor, Turbine, and Induction matrix so you can begin working your way up to all the stuff that Pollonium pellets are used for. Part the reason why I like Mekanism is that you can very easily memorize the best way to progress through the mod and despite how intimidating the stuff you need to make are due to the immense amount of resources you need, the Digital miner can help you overcome that.
Love this mod. I'm very happy you are updating the tutorial. You really excell as a mod show cases specialist.

I can't believe I've never used mekanism before.
I'm an old school player in that I was around the for the start of yogscast and tekkit. And so to me, they were the ultimate mod packs, and ic2 + buildcraft reigned supreme.
I recently started making my own 1.16.x modpack and they aren't available so opted for the standard: Mekanism + addons, thermal series, rftools etc.
They're simply incredible. I LOVE the mekanism UI

Here's a simple and cheap setup for stupidly powerful early game generator: get yourself some potatoes, preferably a farm of those, a crusher, a pressurized reaction chamber, a separator, a pump and finally a gas burning generator. Crush your potatoes(or really almost anything organic, but I just think potatoes are neat), put the biofuel into pressurized reaction chamber with some water and hydrogen from your separator and for a low price of only 2 biofuel, about 100 mb of hydrogen and some free tap water you'd get yourself a 100 mb of ethylene and sum substrate, which you can just dump somewhere. Ethylene is insanely good, pump it right into your gas burning generator and you'd get a ton of energy. At maximum burning rate about 70 kFE/t from one generator and you can easily stack this setup by simply upgrading crusher to a factory, getting some upgrades to pressurized chamber and setting up a line of them to feed into an array of generators. You can easily get nuclear levels of power generation from potatoes.
Also, if you have thermal expansion you can cheese it even more by disassembling watermelons into nine pieces each, getting 36 biofuel from a single watermelon, making the setup even more efficient. And even better - now you also have absolutely free oxygen production for your x3 ore setup too, as it's not used at all in the process.

I wish I'd known how the heat generator was supposed to work before I put stacks of coal into it to make my first few items! (;
It used to work really well by chucking fuel into it, but now that only gets you a tiny bit of power. Much more efficient (not to mention faster) to use the passive method shown here.
I get ~40 Forge Energy per tick by using lava "waterlogging" to ensure the heat generators have a lava *source* on all sides _and_ inside the block of the heat generator itself "waterlogging" it.
Each of my heat generators has contact with 7 lava sources. Some of them are shared, however.

I just realized that Enriched adds 80 instead of 10. My machine just ate 500 of my redstone from AE2 storage after I upgrade them with basic factory upgrade.
Also didn't know that energy consumption is per process. That explains why autocrafting stuff sometimes just shuts my system off.

Quick critique, I think it would be better if you explain what the mod does, what are the similiarities with other mods, whats unique about it, whats powerful etc in 30 seconds before getting into tutorial, it would be cooler, just quick overview
I'm stuck using 1.12 (MC Eternal lite) but hopefully, it's still mostly the same and I can just abandon tech reborn. Thanks for these btw, mods and mod packs can take a lot to figure out.

you can also crouch click upgrades into machines in the world, and they go in instantly.
In 1.15 is just use Create Integration with Create to power most everything. I feel this will change in the semi near future
I put wind generators up at Y251 and ran power down to my factory. Tons of power cheap

What modpack(s) do you play with? On Technic Launcher or CurseForge? Many modpacks seem to be of outdated Minecraft versions, not more recent ones...
I have to ask if Shift+Clicking the upgrades onto the machines still works? You know so you don't have to wait for the install period.
19:49 I always like bit-by-bits, even when I'm not using them due to me despising the combat update and thus am still on the best version 1.7.10
There’s mods for newer versions that bring back the old combat

@@felipevasconcelos6736 why, because I can spam click against a horde of zombies without gear so that if I'm good enough they don't get close enough to hit me? that's one of my favorite things as I'm rather often in that situation, especially in the first few nights when I'm still searching for a place to stay, it's also not that overpowered as doing it with any tool wastes durability and it's utterly useless against ranged enemies like skeletons, also about the wasting durability part, that's due to enemies not taking damage a very short time after they already took damage while tools still lose durability from that hit so there was already a timer just not on the tool, and the most unnecessary part is that the tool has to charge after switching toolbar slot, I scroll the mouse wheel all the time and a real sword can also be used for a rather effective draw cut, bottom line: just let me spam attack to defend against zombies without wasting tools I always have a way (a mod) to be overpowered later anyway (in my 1.7.10 for example I mostly just fight with Ars Magica 2 spells unless I want to make use of looting on a weapon, or Reaper for Draconic Evolution Mob Souls or use the respective weapons for Witchery or Reliquary rare drops... well my killer joe mob spawner farm uses the enchanted Wyvern Swords for most of those purposes)
ahhh, now I really wanna log into my world again but I have other things to do this month... (that I wouldn't after starting Minecraft again, it always swallows months)

Anybody else having issues with the metallurgic infuser not accepting power from the generator? I have all the requisites for the mod
My one question is that as he starts talking about processing ore blocks. Is there a way within mekanism of acquiring those ores without silk touch? Cursory googling tells me that there's the silk touch unit for the meka-tool but that requires what sounds like fairly high end/heavy investment machinery/equipment just to get?
This is a very basic question on a very old video but the rest of the internet seems very unclear on this.
Is there really no way to pipe the lava into the heat generator, from a tank for example, for active power generation? Have spent ages messing around with pipes and the configurator and i cannot get it to input fluid. Feels like this should definitely be a feature, given you could just stand there and do it manually.

AHHH HELP my metallurgic infuser isnt actual taking any of the energy from my heat generator am I doing something wrong?? my heat generator is collecting energy and it connects to other machines its just my metallurgic infuser??

You might not know the answer, but is there a specific manner you need to set up the enricher to pump out to blast furnaces on either side?
I have an enricher in the middle getting power, 1 basic logistical transporter tube on either side, and then 2 blast furnaces hooked up to those in a 5 block arrangement.
I have auto sort turned on inside the enricher, eject is on, and the left and right side of the block are on blue for eject but NOTHING is automatically leaving the enricher and going to the furnaces.
I still have to manually move the processed dust/etc myself.
Any ideas on what the issue could be?

I don't understand what is up with the osmium ore. I can barely find any at all. I spent a few hours playing yesterday and by the end I had 31 diamonds and 20 something osmium ingots. I tried at layer 60 and all the way to the bottom. It's so rare? Am I doing something wrong? I played with this mod many years ago around 2010-2012 and I do not remember ever having problems like this. It was such a fun mod because you could do so much in it now I'm just confused. Also did they change the amount of dust you get from the enrichment thing? I thought one osmium ore were to give 2 dust? That seems to have changed as I rarely got an extra dust which made the experience even worse. I'm playing 1.19.2.

When I place my heat generator in the world and add lava on top, it doesn't start producing heat. Do you have any idea why this could be? It's not powering my infusers or anything.

I looked at the CoFH wiki, and it does not generate in worlds, unless turned on in the configuration files. Same with platinum, iridium and mana infused metal.

Valen, you know a lot about this mods don't you, do you know the reason why i can't craft a heat generator in the latest version of mekanism? Like, i looked in jei and even made the same crafting that you did and the heat generator doesn't appear, i have a ton of magical mods installed but only mekanism and create as machinery mods
(All this in 1.16.4, i'm weirded out because just a month or two ago i played with most of this mods in this version of minecraft and there it was)
Edit: sorry for the comment, i would never have thought having to install addons to make the mod playable, even if they are official addons
Hi. I’m new to modded MC. Will these heat generators power the machines from immersive engineering? Can I just build these and power the fermenter and squeezer and such to make bio fuel instead of making windmills and water wheels?
