Many sweet Junipers Mr. Chan, but I liked the 3 trunk tree turned 90 deg clockwise, the way you showed it, probably some shari on the thick trunk to make it look a little thinner, so inspiring, thanks for the video, I know it takes a lot of work to shoot and to edit for our enjoyment.

I love that you're bringing attention to the San Jose Juniper. I use them a lot for bonsai because the trunks really fatten up fast compared to other junipers. They move resources really well so I like to graft shimpaku to them... which energizes the shimpaku making them grow with more vigor. Its a joy to see you work!
Your literati styling videos have inspired me to appreciate long spindly nursery material i previously thought had no value! Not evrything needs a massive spectacular mature trunk and strong taper. 👍

I assume it's not that important but I think it's "Juniper Virginiana (not "Chinensis") Grey Owl". I have quite a lot of them and propagating is quite easy (search for the instructions, given by Mr. Chan; "heel cuttings"). After years of working with and on them, I can confirm that it's a very tolerant and very strong species, very well suited for bonsaï I think. Young cuttings easily survived frost periodes outdoor, even in rather small pots... During the year, colours may vary from a blueish green or grey green to green or dark green. It is just a little bit less refined than Itiogawa and not that "fresh green" or "yellow green" but very much cheaper and far more easy to get... I live in Western Europa (The Netherlands) in about the same climate conditions as Herons. I salute you, Mr. Chan!

I would like to see some videos on bonsai done without wiring. I like the idea of not using wiring on the ones I'm doing and it would be great to see someone of your experience show some without wiring.
good suggestion - I will try my best but it is difficult.
@@peterchan3100 Thanks, I want to be as natural as possible without using wires. That and wires are really expensive.

Pricing is a difficult thing to explain - Its economics - supply and demand. Depends on where you live - how strong is the market ie Demand. How desirable are the trees and so on. Marketing is more than just price - it's the Product, Position in the market, your Premises and so on. Not as simple as one would think.

You are truly a master and your approach is so important to us beginners. I would like to know what you mean by heavy fertilizing. Is it the NPK, frequency amount etc. I would appreciate any info you can offer. Thanks!
I will try and demonstrate this point when we start fertilising all our plants. For the moment we are only feeding our junipers early as an experiment.

How does one prevent junipers from becoming overly spindly? How can one promote thickness?
At about 19:35 minutes you say you do not allow your trees to grow too vigorously but more slowly to develop trunk character. How do you achieve that - slower growth?
Let them vigorously in the ground or in large pots but also trim back the long shoots or branches to prevent the tree becoming spindly,
