  • A wonderful treat for all Noel Coward, Gertrude Lawrence, and Private Lives fans! The original performers (Noel Coward wrote the play and music) recorded the Act 1 love scene. It includes Coward's most famous song "Someday I'll Find You" sung in context with the scene around it.
This 12 inch record has a scene by the same performers on each side. A rare record, at least I think it is. I've never seen it before and likely it had a limited audience at the time it came out.
The play opened in London in 1930 and has had many revivals all over since. It continues to be one of the most successful Noel Coward plays.

My parents had this record. I listened to it many times as a child. Thanks for the memory.

"We're not in love all over again - and you know it." That line always turns my smile to tears...

Who(ever) could top these two has yet to be born... & I'm just listening to the excellent version by Bill Nighy & Helena Bonham Carter. These two are as incandescent as fire flies at midnight. What charm, deep & sultry, passionate & sensitive. As close to immortal as anything I know.

Julie Andrews and Daniel Massey did this scene in Star.

Also, while Julie Andrews definitely mastered this song in the movie, it’s astounding how incomparable the original is.

You 'Victor' record seems to be an American issued recording. I have the same 12" recording, but on the HMV label. It sounds exactly the same, so both must have been pressed from the same Matrix. Yours sounds in a much better condition than mine. Thanks for uploading

Does anybody know if Gertrude ever made a 78 of the full version of "Someday" with just piano/voice? I'm aware of the orchestral version, but I want more of this languid rendition.

    "Very flat, Norfolk" oozes contempt.
