  • Qatar Airways' CEO is mad. An alliance of airlines should be helping each other out. But CEO Akbar al-Bakar says American and Qantas are actively working against him.

I don't understand why Qantas is pissed. If anything, Emirates and Etihad fly even more into Australia than Qatar! This is double standards on Qantas and it's trying to protect Emirates!

I believe it's because of the Qatar-Sydney-Canberra flight, Qatar did not have the right to add another Qatar-Sydney flight, but was able to side step it by starting/ending in Canberra

I've always been a fan of Akbar al-Bakar. He is concise, detailed, and has the courage to call bullshitters out. I love how he refused delivery from Airbus for shotty quality, scrutinize minor details during his airport construction, and now taking the fight to every country wronging him. Love this guy. He can take the heat.

Call him a fan or whatever you want to. This big nations think that they can bully anyone. Qatar is super wealthy and will survive with a blockade and half the airlines in the alliance trying to bully them. They are just jealous of how fast and powerful this airline has gotten. Its not about the man. Its about the truth

professional.... and..the most important is... he is an inspiring leader with a heart. The World is big, Qatar Airways wings can be expanded in other parts of the World. I support you Mr. Al

USA and its airlines are sore losers..honestly who will pay willingly to fly a mediocre product when you get a far more superior product and service with QR..even American FFlyers will honestly fly QR because of its superior product..they just fly US airlines to show patriotism and just to use them as a mileage bank and regain fflyer status!

100% Agree that the US "Big Boys" are jealous and afraid of Al-Bakar's competition. If you are truly better, then you would welcome the challenge, not try to block the other player. I don't know anyone who would go out of their way to fly a US carrier, but many would rather route thru Qatar because it is better in product and service.
Qatars new Qsuite Business class products are miles ahead of any the US carriers international business class. Qsuites probably cannibalize Qatar's own First Class sales as the difference between Qsuite and First Class is now even less evident. This just shows that Qatar Airways is not afraid to put the customer first. I cannot imagine the US carriers doing this and their motives are on gouging their customers for as much as possible rather than winning customers over from competitors. United has Polaris products on some routes but it is not even close to Qsuite.

JOE GMY well my friend, I have many friends and relatives who work in Qatar airways, and they are treated with nothing but respect. Yes they are overworked and pushed too much, but that’s fair since they get paid more than medical doctors sometimes. In Qatar airways, no one is forced to work there, but if you want to work at the top airline and have a top salary with high travel benefits, the best healthcare and the best schools for yours kids for free, and extra benefits that no one else in the country has, you need to work harder than anyone else, it’s fair, if you don’t like it, quit and get a more boring job with a much less salary and less respect, no one is forcing any employee to stay in Qatar airways. This isn’t slavery, slaves don’t get paid over 200,000 dollars a year for their hard work and have the right to quit anytime.
