Tobi Olusola ---- I think your concept is right. People haven't reverse engineered this properly. It's really easy to understand. Apple has about 1/4 trillion dollars in cash. And last year they added another 60 billion. That is actually a problem. Right now that cash in an account is earning a shitty 2%. Total garbage return. When Apple makes a sale, their average gross margin is 38%. Imagine it were your money, what do you wanna make 2% or 38%. It's a no brainer. Apple then looks around and with iPhone it used to be super easy to buy a phone with carrier credit. That no longer happens. So Apple says, why not make it easy for consumers to get credit to buy our products. Next step they ask "What are pain points for credit cards?". How about signing up, let's make it super simple. How about activating, make it crazy simple. Is there anyone who likes credit card fees? Hell no. Get rid of the fees. How about if I need help on a transaction, normally I have waste my time on the phone to sit on hold for a 1/2 hour. I know, make it so they can easily chat with customer service. They partnered with Goldman so Apple left the interest so that their partner had some money to make. Goldman took on this business because they're currently don't have any consumer biz. The interest isn't the key motivator for Apple. The motivator is to add another great feature to an already sticky ecosystem. Oh no, it's a jail. How do I get out. What a bunch of BS. Lots of companies revolve around making money of lots of products, Apple makes money from the ecosystem and the brand power. A credit card is ton of money from transactions.
Re: credit card segment, Lew is spot on. I have had the Citi Double Cash Card for a couple of years. If you don’t carry a balance, it is 2% cash back on everything all the time. I also have it set up as my apple pay card. Apple pay is is not everywhere. Some big chains don’t have it, like Lowe’s. Sometimes clerks don’t know if they have it or not. Not all point of sale terminals show the wireless pay symbol even though they work with Apple pay. Once you are outside the city, often times clerks are still amazed at seeing me pay with my watch.
Credit Cards and Debit Cards aren't the same though. I mostly use debit cards but legally buy anything over £100 in the UK and credit card companies must reimburse you if there's a problem. Debit cards they don't. Besides if you're sensible credit cards are a useful tool.
@@_Mike.P interesting There's no distinction in the UK. If they take cards they take cards, which most places do as like much of the West cash is getting less popular. I feel like the credit card is similar to the airpods argument. Better and cheaper alternatives exist. But people want the simplicity for them. Simplicity comes at a cost. It’s apple, the ecosystem is a thing and there’s benefits to being in it. But its not the best option. Get it or don’t, it won’t matter for most people. It’s being blown out of proportion.
I think this story is a bit dramatic. 1st in your intro you neglected to say Goldmann Sachs is the issuing bank so Apple isn't getting the credit card revenue directly. Also, the rewards are not spectacular with some of the more popular credit rewards out there as 5 % cash back is far more common and enticing. Credit card purchases and the cash back is ran by Goldmann so Apple doesn't pay out the rewards nor receives revenue from card purchases. Even the Apple Pay process is ran by a digitization wallet that Apple sources out to MasterCard and others to operate. Apple is only incentivizing the purchase of more Apple products and the use of Apple Pay to generate (non-profitable) revenue for Apple Pay. This is not a behavior that should be concerning since Google does similar things with Google Pay as does Samsung with Samsung Pay. I suspect Microsoft may be next since they've just started to get back into phone hardware. This sets them all up nicely to offer rewards for using their smartphone for ALL activities. This has been the vision of the smartphone since it's debut in 2007. Where is the surprise here?
What's the problem with Apple wanting to keep people in their ecosystem? Every one I know that uses Apple products is happy with them. They may not know that there are other good (and sometimes better) options out there, but most importantly, they are happy where they are. Why does this bother people so much?

Hello Lew,excellent review on the Apple card. You did not however talk about the APR. Most of the people that I know, having the Apple card has an APR of at least 20%. One even had 24%. Which is ridicoulusly high. Pure robbery.
"DON'T GIVE MONEY". If you follow this one simple thing it will save you lot of time researching what's good and what not. Just stop and take a break when you know they want money from you.
The title is pure truth. Don’t be this guy... Your iphone glitches.. you need a new one.. The credit card is tied to your phone. You go to change your phone, but you’re stuck paying the minimum, and using the mobile interface. You’re walled in. So why not use your apple credit to get the actual iPhone.. yay more debt for a depreciating asset.
They don't want someone who has superb credit. They can't make money off of you. They want some one with between below average and good credit and carries a modest monthly balance. Those are the money makers for credit card companies.
My problem with the Apple Card is knowing how little care the younger generations today have with money, and adding a big name like APPLE to a CREDIT card can mean unreasonable debt for them. I'm a college student myself, and I have to deal with massive student loans. I can't imagine having even more debt with this card, knowing that some of my colleagues love Apple and want to own every one of their products. Also about that one week trial in NY where the person used both Apple Pay and the Card at the same time...Samsung Pay can do both payment methods by use of their MST technology built into their phones.
I wonder if Apple will give the 3 percent if the money is spent at Best Buy on apple care/apple products now that they're a literal extension of apple's repairing. Same exact process as apple in best buy.
Great question. It brings up a point. It was explained to me by an employee that Apple only cares that you purchase their products, they do not care where.
The milk drink is Wahaha Nutri-Express(营养快线). It's fruit flavored milk. You can find it in some Asian grocery stores. Milk releases CO2 when goes bad due to bacteria, that's why you never leave a bottle of milk in a car.
Thank you Lew for these cautionary warnings on this CC and credit card in general. People need to listen to him before you make a huge financial mistake.
Apple is finally doing what it has been dreaming for years, giving up the high-tech industry and turning into a financial institution. Apple is not able to compete with others in the high tech industry anymore, and this situation is getting even worse day by day.
I have an original Pixel XL, checked out the class action lawsuit, and unfortunately it's only for "If you bought one of the First-Generation Pixel or Pixel XL smartphones in the United States, other than for resale, you may be eligible to get a payment from a class action settlement. " .... Looks like us Canadians miss out on this one
I think it's not a regular milk, I think it's like Kefir drink (made from milk), and it's carbonated. Natural milk also can be carbonated then it sour to Kefir. Kefir can be carbonated naturally. (Traditional kefir is fermented at ambient temperatures, generally overnight. Fermentation of the lactose yields a sour, carbonated, slightly alcoholic beverage, with a consistency and taste similar to drinkable yogurt.). You can see its not in the fridge, so it definitely can sour.
The milk bottle thing - DON'T HEAT UP LIQUIDS IN A CLOSED CONTAINER. My guess is that the guy warmed up the milk in the bottle with the cap on, creating a seal. The steam from the hot milk over-pressurized the capped bottle. The over-pressurization caused the bottom of the bottle to warp. Once the cap was knocked loose from the fall, the bottle released all the pressure and shot towards the ceiling.
The card is for Apple users who don't see them selves switching anytime soon. I honestly don't understand the big deal. Apple comes out with a very convenient card with "no fees", discourages interest, has a very nice physical card, and great security features. What more can you ask for other than airline miles maybe but those cards are so confusing imo. If you want to switch, you just pay off the balance and use a different card you already have or the one you used to use. It doesn't hold you back at all. Now if you love the convenience and the look the card offers then yeah you are stuck but that is not Apple's fault that other companies don't offer the same experience. Yeah it encourages you to stay, but what company doesn't try that with each and every retailer offering their own card in store and online. Apple is focusing on services as a stable revenue stream and that's understandable in today's world.
I think he's just surprised that this is the route they went lol A company famous for profoundly changing the smartphone industry as we know it, went into the...credit card business?
About the "milk drink": Maybe the milk had gone off, which would mean there was bacteria in the milk that was creating gas (just like gas is created by bacteria in the Human stomach/gut/intestines) which would explain why the bottom of the milk bottle had expanded outwards (making it a convex, "bubble-like" surface) which would explain why the milk bottle wouldn't stand up straight on a flat surface (the coffee table); thus, there was so much pressurized gas inside of the milk bottle (from the bacteria producing so much gas), as soon as the bottle fell off the coffee table, the bottle landed on the bottle cap, which then broke and then the gas inside of the milk bottle escaped from the bottle so quickly/fast, with such force, it then "exploded"; that could be why the bottle shot upwards and hit the ceiling. This would also explain why there was such a strong/forceful "milk bottle explosion", sending the bottle into the ceiling, as this basically turned the "milk drink" (and its bottle) into an "exploding milk bottle projectile" that shot up at the ceiling (because of how pressurized the bottle was because of the gas from the gone-off milk bacteria) with such pressure/force, when the bottle actually "exploded"; that could be why it caused all that damage to the ceiling? A fizzy/carbonated "milk drink", wouldn't have enough pressurized gas (carbon dioxide) to cause the milk bottle to "explode" with that amount of force, if the "milk drink" was only, and purposely carbonated, as they don't pressurize carbonated drinks with enough pressure to cause that type of "explosion" (as obviously, that could cause an "explosion"/cause danger to people, and damage to property, if any of these carbonated drinks fell off the shelf, at the store, [for example] which would also, obviously, make these carbonated drinks too dangerous for these drinks to be transported and/or stored, if they were carbonated with such pressure that they just "exploded" if the bottle got/became damaged). Maybe that's me going into too much detail, for explaining what I think happened with regards to the "exploding milk drink" - I haven't got too much to do right now, and I have quite a bit of "spare time" on my hands at the moment (as you may have guessed; from my in-depth analysis and explanation of and for why the "milk drink" may/could have "exploded" in this unusual way...). That's just my thoughts on the "exploding milk bottle" anyway, and that would make sense to me; I don't think you can "carbonate" milk drinks, as the carbonation process, can actually "churn" the milk, into a "soft-cheese-like" viscous liquid, hence it wouldn't be "drinkable" (from what I can understand about what I know of and about milk, and the "carbonation process", and why "fizzy/carbonated milk drinks", from my own "life experience", have never been a "thing"/viable product to produce, market and/or consume...). However, again, that's just my thoughts on/for the reason as to why the milk may have "exploded" so "violently". I obviously could be wrong though; that's just a likely possibility. (Also, I haven't scrolled through any of the comments, so if this has already been explained by anybody else, then, well, yeah I probably didn't even need to type all of that; my apologies if this "theory of the exploding milk drink bottle" has already been explained). A completely different, and extremely serious subject below: We are living THROUGH "The End Times" RIGHT NOW, which were prophesied, and are explained and described in The Book of Revelation (which is the FINAL Book of The Holy Bible) and *Yahshua (Jesus) The Messiah Will Be Returning SOON.* *Yahshua (Jesus) The Messiah Saves.* We are praying for ALL of you. Amex is a credit card company and it's in my benefit to show i have good standing credit with American Express. But apple? Why would i open a line up with Apple? To buy a phone that I"m 1) going to make monthly payments on anyways to pay off my phone 2) buy more apple products from them to get points with them? I guess I just dont see this card as anything other than Apple trying to make up for them losing out in the US smartphone market. IDK just my 2 cents.
Chase Sapphire Reserve
Fidelity Rewards
Amex gold and platinum
Citi Double Cash
US Bank Cash+
There are many more examples but they all wipe the floor and are way better cards that the Goldman Sachs Apple card
I don't buy phones with my Costco Anywhere, I buy gas with %4 cash back, I travel with is with 3 buy my stuff from Costco warehouse for 2 percent I can literally buy all my needs and more with that card, yea it is not my most useful card to be honest but if I want I can only use that card without using the others. Comparing apple with Costco's citi isn't the best comparison, at least the card they offer by citi in the u.s is amazing, I'm not sure about the one in Canada.

When milk goes bad there is bacteria in it that releases gases. So I assume that the milk was spoiled and it released gas and was compressed. But I am only guessing of course I am not sure.
It’s probably like Kefir with active probiotics. As stated already; there is active bacteria that can cause expansion within the bottle.
Milk can ferment which causes the pressure in the bottle.

Nope just want more people to spend more money they don’t have by giving millennials credit cards
It's very simply great business.
As soon as I saw Goldman Sachs, I was instantly turned off. Consumers beware.

Lew just an FYI, most credit card issuers make their money through merchant fees (2-3% per transaction) rather than interest. Lend (interest) & Spend (merchant fees) is the usual business model for 0 annual fee cards. The Apple Card is more for the merchant fees and integration into the apple ecosystem than interest, but they wont say no to that either.

I'm so happy now that we don't use credit-cards in the Netherlands and only debit-cards and cash.
Credit Cards and Debit Cards aren't the same though. I mostly use debit cards but legally buy anything over £100 in the UK and credit card companies must reimburse you if there's a problem. Debit cards they don't. Besides if you're sensible credit cards are a useful tool.
Alex McCaffrey I know they’re not the same, but most Dutch shops don’t accept credit cards not even grocery stores. Only some online shops do.
@@_Mike.P interesting There's no distinction in the UK. If they take cards they take cards, which most places do as like much of the West cash is getting less popular. With contactless its even quicker to pay on card in bars now, the main place cash used to be used. I keep some notes but it stays on my wallet weeks. Couldn't you lie and say its a debit card? The transaction is the same.
@@_Mike.P we're still lucky though. I'm in Argentina and it's all mostly cash still. Some places take Cards. P.s love the show
I think this story is a bit dramatic.
Credit cards are crack for poor people to keep them poor. Apple card is crack for hipsters, you just get a hip logo with it.
What's the problem with Apple wanting to keep people in their ecosystem? Every one I know that uses Apple products is happy with them. They may not know that there are other good (and sometimes better) options out there, but most importantly, they are happy where they are. Why does this bother people so much?

Theyre doing it because Apples hardware sales have been declining and this is a perfect way for them to cover their margins. Don't agree with this move from them though
It smart because smartphones sells are falling as a whole so Apple weakness and strength was the iPhone so to have something that can pick up for the declining sales will keep them from losing research and advancement cost for the new iPhone

My score was 776 when I was approved

Has to be other factors. They're approving sub prime. I'm high 700's and got approved with a high credit limit

It's stupid in my opinion..

Pettition to make lew hosting meme review
Because why not?
A completely different, and extremely serious subject below:
We are living THROUGH "The End Times" RIGHT NOW, which were prophesied, and are explained and described in The Book of Revelation (which is the FINAL Book of The Holy Bible) and *Yahshua (Jesus) The Messiah Will Be Returning SOON.*
*Yahshua (Jesus) The Messiah Saves.*
We are praying for ALL of you.
Peace and love, and prayers,

That’s why I like Samsung pay
Fr bro. Every time I use it at places that don't usually accept mobile people are always surprised
It's pretty pathetic how Apple only gives you 3% cashback at the Apple store when Bestbuy and Amazon offer 5%.
You're not the target market lol. The appeal is the lack of FOREX fees.
I welcome the certain upsurge in NFC payment terminals. You don't have to use the apple card per se but paying for things via smart phone and especially smart watch is pretty great.
I don’t even last 5 seconds on the suggestion tab, I hit my subscription box as I get on.
