- It's quite often suggested to me that I get an Eduard Kit to try, so I took the plunge and this is the first version I have bought. I personally rate Eduard as THE BEST manufacturer of scale model aircraft. The value of these profipacks with all the decals, PE, the masks and just the quality of the kits is incredible. I'd never seen anything like a fully riveted Spitfire in 1/72nd scale before, never had the mirrrors, or seatbelts or masks. IMO these kind of kits make me really want to take my time and do proper justice to them.

Wow! Since the 1970s I've only ever made Airfix kits, but watching this - seeing a kit that actually comes with what would usually be the expensive extras - has made me branch out for the first time. I have already bought another one of their Spitfire Mk VIIIs and, while waiting for it to come, I downloaded the instructions from the Eduard website and am amazed at the detail of the cockpit. I never thought I could be making such a detailed kit with everything in the box!

Eduard are one of the best and worthwile on the market. First I thought it was a 1/48 or even 1/32 given the details...top notch! 👍👍👍

Eduard is one of my favorite manufacturers too. I have built several of their 1/48 Spitfires, as we as their Bf-109s and a P-39. All excellent kits. I need to check out their 1/72 kits.

This is by far my favourite kit I have built, was also my first attempt into photo etch
The one I did was the one on the box art (after figuring out what paint was required...) but was tempted with the American one

The first Spitfire kit I ever built consisted of:
Seat
R and L fuselage halves
L and R stabilizers
R and L upper wings
R and L lower wings
Landing gear doors (2)

That's 18 parts by my count, although I really can't bear to include the armless blob intended to be used as a pilot. Of course, a kit like that cost all of 59 or 69¢, an hour's work spend delivering prescriptions on my bike! The level of detail and options expected today simply weren't conceived off back then.

Looking forward to this. Its a pity that the Eduard warehouse burnt down a couple of weeks ago. Lucky the manufacturing part is in another building. And most importantly that their staff is safe.

I don't know what caused the fire but they still have the manufacturing capability. Losing probably 200.000 kits worth of sprues and boxes etc is a major setback but they are committed to getting back out there. Sales are strong for their products and they will make it back I am sure. There is a message from their head posted on the Unofficial Airfix Modellers forum (where I read it) and other places stating what happened.
What a shocker for me. I didn't know their warehouse burned down. That's very sad news. Good to know nobody was injured during the incident. Hope they recover as soon as possible. They are making great kits.

I haven't done a model kit for a very long time, but seeing this I'm almost tempted to start again. Eduard have raised the bar very high. I got an education with this clip as I never knew that there were Spitfires with extended wings. Thanks for posting.

This is a pleasant surprise, I have been meaning to recommend some of Eduard's kits. I have two of these in the stash. It would be cool to see an Arma hobby 1/72 build in your channel. They are also were refined and detailed. I think many Brits are stuck building endless airfix kits, you could help to popularize these lesser known manufacturers.

ARMA are available in the UK. There is a company called Tiger Hobbies that have them on mail order. And yes, they are superb models. I have a couple of the Hurricanes and a Yak. Going to do a Johnny Red diorama with one Hurricane and the Yak.
They also have Eduard kits too.
Yes, I have the Arma wildcat which is fantastic and have built the PZL.11c. Bloody brilliant😀 The Eduard Mig-21 is another awesome kit.

Im a bit of an Eduard fan myself. Im currently building their 1/48 P-51 which is a stunning kit. I have also done their 1/48 Spitfire. My favourite thing is their extra parts though. I get their photoetch seatbelts and other photoetch and resin details for most of my kits. The guns, seatbelts and wheels on my airfix Typhoon were all eduard extra parts

Nice finally you got a masterpiece kind of kit, you will definitely enjoy this one! And after that, I would recommend buying more eduard kits just the "weekend edition" ones that are at the same price as the new tool spit from airfix, but got rivets, better detail and better fit. Good luck building it, altough I HIGLY recommend airbushing this one because the rivets CAN be lost if you are not careful with handpainting!

I'm currently building this kit (I've just finished the cockpit), and I can confirm that the kit is amazing and the fit and detail is superb too. Actually this is my first kit back to the hobby after 20 years (or more) and its being great ;) Looking forward for your build!

Excellent reviev of a great kit! I've built the weekend edition of the Mk. VIII and what I can say is: do test fit the cockpit parts before inserting them in the fuselage or you will have trouble having the wings aligned. If you use the Brassin one-piece engine cowling, it fits like a glove. The decals are the best I've ever used. Cheers!

I've only ever built airfix, matchbox and revell kits over the years and of various ages from thier histories. I've heard of eduard but yet to make one. But it's been a good few years since I've built anything 20+ years. So may try a " normal " kit before trying one of these 🤔

If you like this kit, you will like Eduard’s other 1/72 kits as well. In particular the Fw 190A series, the F6F Hellcats, and the Bf 110s. If you feel like a foray into WWI, then the Fokker D.VII is brilliant too and has the benefit of needing almost no rigging.

I just got the weekend edition of this kit last week wish it came with this many livery selections looking forward to this build good luck I’ve not had much luck with P.E parts but I’m sure you’ll do just brilliantly
Also I agree with your liking if the American livery I mean you just did a mustang with roundels so if you did a spit with American insignia I think I would even it out plus it’s nice to see aircraft with other countries insignia than the country there produced by
Second livery I want to see is the one from Burma 🇲🇲 good luck with this build man your slowly tempting me to get this addition of the kit even after me saying to myself no more kits till I’ve cleared abit of my stash however I have just seen the Airfix 2021 announcement so I doubt that rule will last

I have this kit and built the US kit and used some of the unused parts to upgrade some of my other Spitfires like an old Revell kit.

Grabbed the Eduard "Aussie 8's" kit a while back,built the "Gray nurse" so far gorgeous kit to build!
Second version is gonna be the bare aluminium skin as a contrast to the camo version.

@@monkeyracing5274 hey man got it in 2019 at metro hobbies in Melbourne, Victoria, it was under 25 bucks because it had a water damaged box but the contents were mint. Was under 40 bucks for a mint one
The first spit (also the one on the cover) is from No. 457 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force ( RAAF) fighter squadron and is Bobby Gibbs personal mount.
Not a RAF Burma aircraft.

Eduard kits are among the best imo. They have lots of details, multiple marking options, and they are very well priced considering what they offer. Airfix should be scared right now. They arent the best when it comes to spitfire kits anymore (and other airplanes too)
That appears to be an outstanding kit. If I were still building model aircraft of the 2nd World War I would get at least five of these kits and make the different versions, especially the far east versions and the American PRU kit.

Other 1/72 kits with excellent detail and finesse are for instance Special Hobby's new P-40 kits (P-40E, P-40K , P-40N). I have several in my stash, haven't yet built one, but according to reviews they should build easily. Also Special Hobby's freshly released Messerschmitt bf 109e-4 is very nicely detailed and has a good fit. And then there's Clear prop! Models from Ukraine, their kits look very enticing, I see that MOS6510 Models has just uploaded an inbox review of their 1/72 La-5.

It's funny how few people realize what good bang for your buck Eduard kits provide and how underpriced (for the level of detail and quality control) they truly are. Hell, last time I could go to my local hobby shop (thanks to the ball of "fun" 2020 was), a guy in front of me decided on picking an Airfix Spit that was literally an Euro cheaper, instead of the Mk9 (same tooling/series as this bugger) because he'd never heard of the manufacturer and as a good fellow kit builder I did ABSOLUTELY nothing to tell him the error of his ways. For the record I REGRET NUTTIN' as I look at my nearly done PT879 (and wondering on whether or not to buy a cheaper kit to recreate the wrecked state of that bugger)

Eduard ProfiPACK edition is no brain decision and if you find something in their catalogue that you like, go for it. It's worth it. Kit parts go nicely together and you get also metal parts. Just be cautious about their special editions which are sometimes repacked kits from other kit producers, like Revell etc. It's not that they are bad, but they are not made by Eduard itself. Eduard models are a little bit pricey, but especially if you are a new modeller spending several euro more is better than spending a lot of time in frustration when parts don't fit together. And of course, beginners should go for the Weekend edition without metal parts for start.

I know how you feel, got the Tempest (Weekend Edition) as a Christmas Present from my sister and was just blown away.
(That and the Hataka Blue Line RAF Paint Set*+Thinner.)
We don't have the easiest of relationships, but that was the best christmas present ever! :D
Got an old Revell 109 G-10 for a fiver (10 euros off due to a deal from revell) and planned for it to be my first 1:48 scale one, buut now the the Tempest has to go first....and the G-10 doesn't compare, it's an old kit (1978 molds) that might've been a worldbeater back then but the Tempest's detail level is just off the scale, all the rivets etc.
And the pricing for Eduard is just awesome! The quality you get for that price is just a steal.
Now I'm just waiting for the rest of the necessary paints to arrive, splitting it between Hataka and Lifecolor*.......recently switched from my old Enamels to Acrylics and let's just say the collection is still lacking. :D
Funnily the Italians managed to loose my Lifecolor order process, so I had to do it again, but atleast no money was subtracted.
*Restarted scale modelling this year after a log hiatus and due to that and the lack of a dedicated room, no airbrushing for me....and the necessity to switch to acrylics in winter. Lifecolor and Hataka Blue line were recommended to me as good stuff dedicated for brush painting. The Revells Aquas are not bad, but due to the lack of RLM, FS, BS and ANA colours, a lot of hassle in pain mixing.
And there is not that much difference in pricing. Restarted by finally finishing that one Revell Rebox of the Haseagawa 1/32 Scale FW-190 D-9.......which strangely enough Revell only ever did one run off. Also did my first steps in weathering with it, with AK stuff before they put their foot in. Got a bit more stuff from Ammo by Mig for weathering the Tempest and that old Italeri 109 F-4 that I bought more than 14 years ago! :D
Can recommend the Hasegawa FW-190 D-9 not highly enough, great kit, great details and great fit, even after 10 years of on and off storage in not so great conditions. The decals were a bit messed up but the kit fit great.
Which is a stark contrast to the Italeri Bf-109 F-4.......which is my favourite WW2 Aircraft and the F-4 is my favourite version........but the kit is a bit of a let down. Either the wing and fuselage are too small or the Decals are too big, the detailing is beginner, while the building process is decidedly not. The colouring instructions are so confusing and off they might as well be psychological warfare. ;)
And that leads to you mistrusting the building instructions, which lead to me forgetting something and having to take apart the cowling to fit the propeller hub.
Fit is a big issue, I had to fill and sand a lot.
On the plus side there are a lot of options, you can build Gallands F-2 with the MG/FFM, an F-4/trop and an F-4/R1 Jabo, the parts for them are all included. Which also means you can build a standard F-2 and a Standard F-4.
In the end I went for a different colouring option, not a historical one, but one I used in a JG27 Campaign in IL-2 1946, flying for the 2nd Group of JG27, the early paintscheme which still had the yellow nose.

Wow, I have MiG-21 PF and Mirage III C weekend editions from Eduard in my build queue, I was also amazed by those. They should make a Sabre model since they have many different versions and no kit has the one I want to build.

got a limited edition 1/72 tornado of eduard its got everything you need and the brassin resin parts are brilliant. all for 25 quid. its the desert babes one which is the revell tornado with all the eduard parts with it photo etch and resin

High altitude pointed wingtips all the way! A whole host of other Spitfire variants can be found with clipped wings, the VIII is one of only a handful that got the opposite treatment from what I can remember. (Though I will admit it is a good looking livery that caught your eye.)
If I recall correctly, the extended pointed wingtips were fitted to the Mk.VI, Mk.VII (which had a pressurised cockpit), and could be fitted to the Mk.VIII. Surprisingly, the PR variants like the PR.X and PR.XI did not have them

@@ModelMinutesFew areas need attention for fit: the upper cowl, wing trailing edge around flaps, and radiators. All can go together but might need care / some sanding. On the 1/48 kit I had good luck gluing the two halves of the cowl in place and then bit of filling. Otherwise the construction is pretty smooth. For keeping the rivet detail (without re-riveting) around seams, it can be helpful to deepen them with a needle so that they don't disappear in the cleanup. One more note for the lower engine cowl: there is a seam in the middle from prop to the turbocharger (between F15 and F16), but no seam on the turbocharger cover (smooth transition between F15&16 and the lower wing). Hi, thanks for the video, looks like a great kit. One question though, I’m relatively new to modelling aircraft, is it standard not to have a pilot included? Do most people have them on the ground and not in flight, hence no pilot?
Most manufacturers don't inlcude figures these days, nor stands to display them flying. Sadly, these are increasingly items you have to purchase/source
They're fantastic kits on par with tamiya in my opinion and the value is amazing for the excellent quality you get

The best Spitfire VIII kit on the market, wise choice. The same goes with their Fw-190, Spitfire IX/XVI and Bf-110s.
But we have witnessed a modelers' tragedy just before Christmas: Eduard's werehouse burst into flames. Thankfully, there were no casualties, but the fire destroyed their stash, so prepare their kits' and accessories' prizes will skyrocket

What? I am from Czech Republic and I never heard of it before... So sad to hear that, I hope it didn't cause too much damage.
I have read Mr. Šulc's (Eduard CEO) post that lot of stuff from the burned warehouse could be saved. They stopped their e-shop in December but now it should be working again. So skyrocket prizes might be IMHO found only when buying from touts or dishonest sellers.

@@ModelMinutes To be more precise: the sad part is that plastic parts for roughly 200 000 kits were destroyed. But lot of (about 80%) complete kits in boxes and other goods were saved.
Well, I stumbled across the channel and whilst some of the terms you used were a challenge to me I guess I will pick it all up?
As a child I built Airfix models nearly all aircraft when at my grandparents and built a massive collection.
Git all sentimental and purchased an Airfix model and whilst yet to build it , as fir the first time ever I want to paint it!, I was disappointed I didn’t get the feeling I got as a child.

I think you’ll find you cannot build a Mk.IX from this particular boxing. The fuselage and wing sprue is labeled Sprue F and it has a ‘c’ wing with short span ailerons. The Mk.IX had the original long ailerons and Eduard has these on Sprue H, which is included in their Mk.IXc kits. The Mk.IXe wing was catered for with a different sprue again, Sprue I to account for the ‘e’ wing armament (typically 1X20mm cannon and 1X.50 cal machine gun per wing). The ‘e’ wing had no outboard .303s.
Thanks so much for clarifying! When I did my research it wasn’t made clear from my sources that there were different sprues. But I’m still glad that they are interchangeable 👍🏻

Sorry because of my poor english. I've never seen a Arma Hobby model but I think it's not easy to overtake the new production Eduard quality. I own a profipack bf-110, Fw-190 and Mig-21, simply outstanding with a wonderful price. Even 1/144 are great.

ProfiPACKs are awesome. I have their MiG-15 kit along with a ton of 3rd party detail sets. It will take forever to build, lol

Hi Matt I bought the Edouard FW 190 F variant I think Romania late 1945 the amount of detail is quite alot considering it a 1 72 scale model with includes winter or late version (I am part of a WW 2 research group) have a look at this one.

Eduard make some fabulous kits. I have 3 of these in the stash. My LMS had them in for £11.69 each so it would have been rude not to pick up a few.😁 Especially as you say when compared to the cost of Airfix etc. Definitely check out Arma Hobby. They are making some beautifully detailed kits too. ATB John.

Nice looking kit. The panel lines on the fuselage sides look too deep and wide, though; deeper and wider even than the Airfix Mk 1!
I got the kit back out the box to investigate after reading your comment. I think the lighting in the video highlights the panel lines and makes them appear deeper than they are. Looking at them close up under different light they are not as bad as the airfix mk1. Probably a similar width but half as deep
It would be interesting to do the Spitfire with the USAAC color scheme and then do a P-51 in the RAF color scheme!

@@ModelMinutes You read my mind. Once I saw the USAAC photo recon version, I knew that would be the one I would build. Now I need a decent 1/72nd scale P-51D in RAF markings.
Paint scheme number 5 is for a spitfire in the pacific theatre cause there is no raf red roundl cause it was removed and replaced with a white one

I honestly never pay serious attention to complex painting instructions in a kit's instructions, because I'll be searching for source images. Usually the instructions have some, if not all, of the detail painting references incorrect.
Working on a Hasegawa 1:72 F-35B at the moment and I've not looked at the instructions for paint once since I began, just for building steps.
I know what you mean, i also look at reference images. As a review channel i will sometimes follow the instructions though, and highlight the errors

the airfix typhoon Ib has gun bays (but no engine detail - i made a build video on it) the revell Ju87g has a crude engine (again video on my channel - but no gun bays). The airfix Bf109E has a moulded engine too. Finding both an engine and gun bay in 1/72 is pretty rare and can't think of any off the top of my head
