Really enjoying your videos. Finding them extremely helpful. Recently changed career path and I'm very glad I found your videos! Keep up the great work
You could calculate that by learning what temperature your body gets when your really mad. Then you could put the thermometer on the arduino and calculate what the "level" would be and output it on the segment display.
Maybe you can mention the great variety of 7-segment decoders in TTL and CMOS logic families. For example, CD4043, although intended for LCD displays, can drive common cathode and common anode, changing the signal in one pin. Many of them have latches, and exhibit tails in numbers 6 and nine. Sadly, there were excellent hexadecimal decoders even capable to control the brightness of the display, like DM9368 and DS8880, no longer produced. They displayed letters instead of the strange signs of 7447, 7448, 74247, and 74249 for numbers above 9. Some can drive lamps with higher voltages, like 7447 and 4511. Nice video.
amazing man!! ... im from Software field, and start to learning some uC with arduino but yout videos are clear and amazing!... great! you just got a new suscriber!
Thanks for this video. my son wants to build a "vote" counter using a 2 digit 7 segment display. Since I had the arduinos this seemed like a great starting place.
hey man love your basic videos and the project ones, but can you do some basic electronic stuff which we have to know. For example, the behavior of electronic components in serial and parallel circuits.
Hi I know this video is kind of old but I just subscribed and have been watching them all. I am curious how you know which ICs to use. My guess is thats something that comes with experience but is there a way for a beginner like me to find what I'm looking for fairly easily?
So I'm one of those guys who don't use arduinos. That ic is useful for a binary adder project I've been working on. I want to know what happens if you input a value like 1100 which is greater than nine. Will it display the hexadecimal value or what? And is there a way to convert a 5 bit binary value to decimal with 2 seven segment displays using the ic you mentioned.
I would love to see if you could make a video with max7219, these ICs are great for 7-segment and for dot-matrix displays, they are also selled complete packet (I mean max7219 with 8-Digit 7 Segment)
Hi, do you know “area LEDs“. them are like led bargraphs but single Bars. Could you build something with some of them? Kannst du mal was mit solchen dingern baun?
Hi Great Scott my name is owen and i loved this vid so much i decided to make a 4 bit binary counter (cut off the 7 seg display part and put Qa-Qd connected to leds) so how it works is you press the button and the leds show the next number in binary and repeats but im having a bit of trouble so the leds when i plug the circuit in, all the leds light up (i have the same parts as you just so you know) and when i press the button the leds get a bit brighter. Ihave found out that one of the wires when moved the leds turn on like this (0001) yes i have tried to resolder
:D PS: Super Videos!
I have some problem,When i put current on my circuit all 7 segment are lid up but when they are count the number all of them are still bright. (like i need it to count 1 another one are not close to make number 1.) P.S. I'm not good for English you may confuse what i want to mean. :D Thank you.
*7th episode of the Electronic Basics series, talking about the 7 segment display, and the video itself is 7 minutes long. Nice.*
Noof TheNoob well the 555th episode of eevblog talks about the NE555 :D
Hey and also itz 7 years now 😅

I used this counter for my school project. It was Exactly what i needed. Thanks
Love your videos! Could watch them 24/7. Great job GreatScott.
Thank you so much!
You couldn't get any better, man! Not too dumbed down, and not overly detailed.
My favortie on RUclips ;D
GreatScott! whats the last number called i searched to much for it????..... but you have really good videos!
I need a rage meter sometimes. Thanks.
You could calculate that by learning what temperature your body gets when your really mad. Then you could put the thermometer on the arduino and calculate what the "level" would be and output it on the segment display.
marcoNLD i need one with 999999 Res. I think i must salvage a display from a Hi-Res bench meter.

another great video! you have found your purpose in the world.
7th episode talking about 7 segments display and it is 7 minutes long
Amazing
7th episode about 7 segment displays, 7 minute video, 7 likes
Tolles Video, wie immer. Danke für das Teilen!
Thanks for this video. my son wants to build a "vote" counter using a 2 digit 7 segment display. Since I had the arduinos this seemed like a great starting place.
For the people who think it's too fast for basics, put the video on 0.25x speed and follow along. Else quit. Just stop complaining.
For this you could also use serial to parallel shift registers to control an infinite amount of displays with only
7 minute video, 7 years ago, 7th episode, 7 segment display
7 segment Display is still used in timers in philippines for computer shops where you put coins to have a certain amount minute.
2:37 Why not put the resistor on the common anode and use normal wires for the rest of the connections? It looks like it would save on resistors.
because the LEDs would get dimmer the more you turned on of them.
Joyrider That makes sense. Thanks
Have a Nice Day Sir Axlerlood
What was the name of the software at 5:33 and is the arduino board you used on the breadboard the micro? Also great video by the way!
Its arduino nano..don't know about the software
Maybe it's Fritzing? It supports both breadboard view and schematic view.
Maybe easyeda?
can you make a video about vacuum fluorescent displays and how to controll them with arduino?
hey man love your basic videos and the project ones, but can you do some basic electronic stuff which we have to know. For example, the behavior of electronic components in serial and parallel circuits.
Great work thanks
Thanks a lot , Teachable video . love it .
You know what I though of when you talked about the binary counter?… The old fashioned rotary dial on the old telephones.
Can the segment driver you used be used for a larger size 7-segment display? Danke
Hi I know this video is kind of old but I just subscribed and have been watching them all. I am curious how you know which ICs to use. My guess is thats something that comes with experience but is there a way for a beginner like me to find what I'm looking for fairly easily?
Experience is important. But Google can help you a lot as well to find an IC for a specific purpose.
hello, is the music used free? thank you
Your a f....ing genius ty helping me with my idea.
Thanks for the content.
Keep up the good work.
Nice to learn about it

Maybe you want to take a look at fischtechnik TX Controller?
It has I²C too and I'm interrested in using it, but I'm not the best at electronics.
That is one expensive controller. I will take a look at it if you send me one ;-)
I would love to see if you could make a video with max7219, these ICs are great for 7-segment and for dot-matrix displays, they are also selled complete packet (I mean max7219 with 8-Digit 7 Segment)
Scott hast du Elektrotechnik studiert?
can you show the various ic's you have.all that important in discrete logics?
find it helpful. thanks bro!
How about 8 bit shift registers? You can chain them together to control many 7 segment LEDs with only a few microcontroller pins.
theficus Correct! Also possible.
This is little bit out of context but... i just realized i can‘t learn anything at morning.
Hi, exist some schematic to cont down from 9 to 0?
Is there design for apk livewire?
Could we not just connect one current limiting resistor to the cathode of the display, instead of one for each led?
Hey how would you display an 8 bit number on 3 7 segment displays without using a microcontroller?
Can you make a video tells how to show multiple measures with a button in a 7 segment display(like time, temperature)
Where can i buy a SAA1064 ?
I searched for it, but i could only find Datasheeds of it.
You can buy it at Amazon or just click at the description :)
Well, how did you learn these stuff???
whats the name of the number? time: 5:13
Will you do a LCD video like this? Because I have a 16 x 2 LCD witout pin reference and I want to use it
it's probably that kind of lcd : d32zx1or0t1x0y.cloudfront.net/2010/03/HD44780_breadboard_02_lrg.jpg
sep, but at the same time no, because it's a printer's recycled one
explain about H bridge circuit and also about producing sine wave
U have got great videos, can you please make tutorial how to make own 7 segment arduino clock ?
keep those awesome videos coming. good jod!!
like if you agree!
dude, it`s awesome!
what type of ics used in these type of devices &what is the cost
We had to connect all segments using only NAND gates. That was hell :D
can you make a speed meter with it? I would appreciate that a lot
Hey @GreatScott can you send a picture of the schematic for the led matrix?
I always used 4026 - no need for separate counter and decoder chips and you can buy a pre made board with 4 digit LED and i2c for a couple of dollars.
please help, how do you make the 2 digit 7 segment blink so fast that its like they light at the same time. whats the code for this? thank you
Would you show how to control three seperate seven segment for more than one digit using shift register??
Rajesh Sigdel I will use a similar method in an upcoming video.
Sehr geiles Video! Wie wärs als nächstes mit einer Einführung in Pull-Up/pull-Down Widerstände? :)
Keine schlechte Idee.
