  • I spend 2 days 1 night with the land rover and a 9 by 9 army command tent. This would make a great field day ham radio set up.
For those who knows how to put this tent up, I now know from subscribers comments that this is not how it's done and the tent is inside out! 😀
I'm a licensed amateur radio operator from the United Kingdom. My RUclips channel features videos focusing on operating portable ham radio from various locations plus how to videos, tutorials, insights and conversations in the hobby.

    and making a few contacts
    the icing on the cake
    i reckon
PS I really enjoy your English humour

Canvas was inside out Carl. The window flaps should be on the outside, as should the vehicle cowl, and I think you have an incomplete kit. IIRC there should be poles on the floor between the legs on the tent sides, but I may be getting confused with the 12 x 12, it's been 20 years at least since I last put one up.

@@M0SZT Nope they don't LOL. I used to get filthy off the canvas wax and aluminium (note the correct spelling my American friends) dust off the poles. They are VERY good tents though. You should fit a stove jack like I have on my big ridge tent.

This video is ripe for a response :
    1) Can you wear your flat cap please ? Uri (RA1A) on board the ISS forgot his sun glasses.
    2) Nothing like a Stanley thermos with a piping hot cup of tea.
    3) A lesson there about rubbish and wildlife - aka, foxes - box it and put it in the car.
    4) I have to commend you for the tent. Ten points for that. I wish I had one of those. Top shelf stuff. Down here in the southern Antipodian Colonies our tents are 12x12 or 12x15 i think.
Yours is the perfect size. I'd like to see more canvas camping frivolity.
Cheers and thanks for sharing :-)

Very nice Carl! That sandwich looked delicious! You have more patience than me for putting up that tent! Consider maybe getting a nice 120 watt folding solar panel. I just got one made by Baldr (also made by Togo, same panel) that works great.

Well done getting that tent up Carl, it looked a bit of a beast on your own...
great to see you back out in the wild, camp site looks really nice, I take your point on the Ham radio, luckily I get some days off in the week to play a bit as I think if not I would hugely scale back my HF set up & be a digital mode only station as sadly its becoming a contest only hobby at weekends now on voice which isn't my bag. 10m has been good fun though lately. more how I like to do radio. 73 Carl, call in and say hello next time you hear me on, been a while since we had a QSO, nice to have a brief cameo part in the videos too 👍😁

Great first attempt att field ops, with the 9x9 Carl…it’s not just about the operating but the setup of the kit, iron out the snags, find out what is needed over what will just fit in the landy….trim it down, and drop the setup time so you have it down pat…..
Love the carry on audio clip.
And seriously m8 that 7200 really needs to be either OD green or sand 😂 come on Carl get it sprayed 😂
Ok as for the solar in the UK you’ll need 3x the normal power rate due to the fact we only get 1kW/ m sq here on a good day, that is like we had when we was kids in 76 😂
So if you need 100W, build for 300W of gathering be it solar or wind.this will keep you ticking over.
All the best bud Tony 2e0tsa.

Great Job as always Carl! I definitely loved the steak & onion sandwich!! Yum!! A couple of things:
    1. I have noticed that your Tarheel isn’t getting out well (from your other videos too), this is almost always a bonding issue. I think because you’re mounted to the roof rack and not the chassis the antenna isn’t getting a proper ground. I recommend you look into improving that, you will see a world of difference on transmit performance!!
    2. What happened to the igloo style tent you had? It must be way easier to setup and better insulated (with floor).

Once up use different coloured electrical tape in bands on ends and joints into the ends. You can use 1 or 2 bands of different colours so you just match them up to each section each time saving time. 73's Andy M6APJ

  • @lonewolfhamradio
    @lonewolfhamradio 3 года назад

Ah the smell of army tents. What this video doesn’t convey is the weight of the canvas, putting a 9x9 up is usually a two man job especially when they are wet. The modern 9x9 CP tents are higher and come with extension legs so you can put a land rover right up to it.
