Not because I was a power hitter and would hit a ton of homeruns and showboat, but because I would just hit a ton of line drives and turn everything I could into an extra base hit because of how fast I was. If they walked me, it was instantly a double.
So a guy buzzes my head with a pitch and I duck it and it misses me. Next pitch comes inside and clips me on the elbow. I shake it off because that sucker got me right on the tip and it really hurt. On my way to take my base I tell the pitcher, "You just gave up a run." The guy looks at me like I am crazy.
On his very next pitch I steal second base. On his very next pitch after that I stole third base. On his very next pitch after that I stole home plate. I didn't point, I didn't celebrate. After I slide across home and was called safe I just got up and walked to my dugout without even looking back toward the field. My teammates were all happy. My coach wasn't so much. He told me, "Ordinarily I would be chewing you out right now, but I understand why you did what you did. The next time you steal bases without me giving you the sign for it, you won't be playing so much. I will only play you the minimum amount I have to."
I never got hit by him again and the rest of the league I guess got the message. There were only about 8 teams and most teams only had 2 main pitchers. I didn't get thrown at anymore.
