How to get rid of odors in the house
When you pass through the front door at the end of a day's work and enter your room, your face automatically frowns when you smell an unpleasant odor instead of a refreshing scent. Today, we're going to learn how to effectively get rid of odors in your home.
Find out why and the cause of the smell and remove it!
First of all, you need to find out what is causing the smell in the house and eliminate the source of the smell. On days when the humidity is relatively high as it gets hotter, odors often occur, especially when the laundry is not dry. If you wash your clothes on a day with high humidity, you need to dry them quickly.
Body odors left on blankets and pillows, smells from shoe cabinets, and air that is not ventilated often accumulate as unpleasant odors. Ventilation is important, as well as washing and drying blankets or clothes that are wet with sweat, but quick drying after washing is more important than anything else.
    1. Ventilate
Even a clean room can smell if it is not properly ventilated.
It is good to ventilate for 30 minutes at least twice a day, morning and evening. In winter, less than 15 minutes is helpful. In a space where windows cannot be opened, or in dusty or inclement weather, it is recommended to use a fan, ventilator, dehumidifier, or air purifier to circulate the air in the room.
    2. Frequent drying in the sun
UV light can kill odor-causing mold and bacteria. Many people use blackout curtains for a good night's sleep. On a sunny day, it is better to open the curtains wide and let sunlight enter the room, and it is better to hang blankets and pillows separately in a sunny place.
    3. Wash bedding and curtains
Smells from bulky curtains and bedding can dominate the scent throughout the room.
We recommend that you wash your curtains and bedding regularly to avoid releasing bad odors.
    4. Wipe the surface with baking soda or diluted vinegar
Add 4 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 liter of water, mix and use to wipe around the house to get rid of odors. If you don't have baking soda, wiping with vinegar diluted will have the same effect by absorbing odors.
    5. Sprinkle with baking soda
Mattresses and carpets can smell. Sprinkle the baking soda evenly over the carpet surface and let it sit for at least 30 minutes or several hours. If the smell is strong, you can leave it overnight. After that, clean it with a vacuum cleaner to get rid of the bad smell.
    6. Remove and clean garbage cans
There may be a bad smell from the garbage in the trash can, so check and eliminate the cause. Alternatively, the trash can itself may have a foul odor from cuts. Even if you cover the trash can with vinyl, the smell permeates, so it's good to clean the trash regularly. Spread a newspaper under the trash can and spray mosquito repellent before using it to prevent the occurrence of flies and is effective in removing odor.
    7. Using essential oils
Instead of using chemical-laden detergents and air fresheners, using natural ingredients like essential oils can help keep you healthy and control odors. Many essential oils, especially lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, lemon, and peppermint (mint) oils, have antibacterial and odor-removing properties, making them ideal alternatives for household cleaning products. Fill a spray with water, add a few drops of essential oil and spray into the air for a natural deodorant.
    8. Use Citrus Peel or Charcoal
After removing and cleaning the source of the bad smell, add citrus fruit peels such as lemons, limes, or oranges to the water and leave until the smell disappears. Charcoal is a powerful odor absorber that can be used for deodorization. You can also place a few pieces of charcoal in a basket and place them around the house.
    9. Boil the aromatic ingredients in water
In a pot, add your favorite flavoring ingredients, such as lemon and orange peel, cinnamon, basil, and ginger, and bring to a boil. As the water particles evaporate, the fragrance spreads throughout the house and removes unpleasant odors in the house.
    10. Burn an aromatic candle
If you use aromatic candles instead of cheap and unhealthy air fresheners, you can kill two birds with one stone as you can enjoy the therapeutic effect of removing odors in the room, improving your mood, and calming your mind and body. However, it is recommended to ventilate the room before, during and after use, as the amount of oxygen in the room may decrease and cause a headache if the aroma candle is lit for a long time.
