Absolutely loved the Ti class. Wife was walking by and stopped to watch over my shoulder. Very interesting! Thumbs up given👍🏽 Nice to hear they're going to keep this one in the catalog a little while.
Great content as always! 16 years ago I tipped over a cart in the granite shop, with a 400-600 pound piece of granite and another guy the other end. I fell down not wanting to let go of the granite to her other person and the ring I was wearing to my hands happen to be made of titanium, that saved my fingers.
I love my Bertucci solar titanium watch(bought it from you) & have gone to titanium cookware & water bottles for camping but not so much for strength. First, titanium is absolutely corrosion resistant & hypo allergenic. That's great for a watch that's on my skin all day & the lighter weight is a benefit too. For my cookware & water bottles, allergenic quality & corrosion resistance are also important but it also has the benefit of resisting warping from heat. I can literally boil water in the bottles if I my filter & other purification methods fail for any reason. I've never been willing to spend the money on one but Mission Knives also makes pure titanium knives for kayakers etc that want a light corrosion proof emergency knife. Uses for titanium keep growing & it's proving its worth in several places.
Nice looking watch. I agree with you about the clasp. What were they thinking? I wish more watches had a negative date. It’s easier for my old eyes to see. Thanks for sharing it and have a great afternoon!
I would like to see a Grade 5 Titanium in the 1521 50 atmos or in their sub39 line up with bracelet and buckle to match. Also Marc, I am patiently waiting for you to make your own LIW bracelets for the 1521 with solid end links and milled clasp. 🙏
Kind of ruins the hardcore diver theme they were going for (regardless of whether it would be used by a diver or not). At this price range these things matter.
Thank you for the unbox Mark. Still enjoying all that great nerdy time info from your recent “UTC” vids. There’s about four or five watches I’d like to buy from you.
Hi, Marc. Although it did not come on bracelet, the “Master x Palombari Comsubin” that I bought from you last year is also grade-5 titanium; so Squale has some experience with this alloy. 😀
Awesome watch ! Flat Power !!! Hyperborea may exist at Magnetic North directly under Polaris at the center of our Plane. If we stay here we die. We have nothing to lose.
I do like Squale’s (I believe it’s the 1521 or 5121) with the bright coral blue dial & bezel. I believe you & TGV both have it. I still haven’t been able to save up to get it just yet. But to me that particular model is the best looking diver watch they have that I must soon acquire!
Beautiful watch. If only they offered it with a rubber strap only option for a little less price tag. That bracelet is pointless with a butterfly. Excellent review as always. 👍
Absolutely love the look of this watch and is seriously considering this as my next purchase. Thank you for confirming the size of the case as one AD here in the UK have listed it as 65mm. At 65mm, it's a dinner size plate on the wrist and a definite deal breaker 😄😄😄
I don’t always understand the science, but I like to hear it. And it feels right to me at the end of a video. Now, a question: is anyone ever made an aluminum watch? The Soviets?
What would be great is a bezel which can be locked in place. With the neoprene gloves and wetsuit it's far too easy to accidentally rotate it slightly (which isn't a safe thing whey you're trying to judge your remaining air and slowly rising to prevent having to be placed in the chamber when you surface. Maybe a small push button which prevents it from changing unless you press it because you need to turn it as you stayed under longer because your attention was caught by something you really want to check out/look at longer (when you should have looked at the watch to find you should have decided to take a second dive to look at it instead).
Nice one Mr F. I have a Pelagos which is G2 Ti. It marks fairly easily but, on tbe plus side, the marks can be removed easily with a titanium refinishing pad. Anyhow - maybe coatings would be good for next time? Citizen and Sinn have proprietary tech in this space i believe?
Simple and beautiful. A little rich for my blood, but I have zero doubts you will have any trouble selling these. But yeah, that clasp probably needs to be changed out. Thanks as always!
Very nice watch. I absolutely love Titanium watches! I own 8 of them now. The last one I purchased was also in grade 5 Titanium. Unfortunately this watch is a little too expensive for me. Fortunately most titanium watches are very affordable now, even grade 5.
Yeah the butterfly clasp and pin and collar links are a bit of a "WTF?" But i believe these quirks will be valued in the years to come, plus you can always put it on a different strap. I think it looks great! Wish i had the cash to make this happen right now. But maybe soon.
Butterfly is fine for a desk diver. Anybody actually taking it to depth will have it on the rubber strap. I really like the looks and the weight. I'm not sure I want to cough up $2K for it, but I suppose the market segment that it's aimed at won't mind.
A few years ago I bought a JDM Casio Oceanus in grade 5 Ti. It is still looking almost new although I definitely did not baby it. It might even have a titanium carbide coating, but I'm not sure. I've become a fan of grade 5 Ti watches, I'm up to 3 now. (As an aside: Casio managed to include a 3 position toolless micro adjust for a price of $580 shipped from Japan, Squale should really do better, and Grand Seiko even more so)
I don't really care about the strap.I can change that! And how many people goes diving With their watch These Days. And I like how the links match up with each other from the top to the bottom. Even more expensive watches are not perfect I love it!!
First, it’s a great looking watch. I like the look of the butterfly clasp but wonder why they’d do it on a 120 atmosphere diver. I guess you’re expected to switch it to the tropic if you are actually diving with it? And for the price, although I have had good luck with elaboré grade movements it really should be a chrono at that price point I think. And at least the helium escape valve prevents them from over branding it!
None (of the very few nostalgic that still use watches for diving. All the others have replaced them with dive computers) uses a bracelet for diving. "Dive clasps" and "dive extensions" are only trinkets. All the few watches still used for diving and all the dive computers that replaced them, are secured with straps. If you really want to dive with that watch, use the rubber strap that's included in the package.
I know it's their gimmick, but I really wish Omega would join the program and drop the helium escape "wart" 🤣 These are beautiful and a rival to a certain titanium Omega with a similar colouring 😁
They really need to revamp the clasp to a micro adjust while staying in that price point. I like the watch, but not that much. Bracelet tech has influenced my purchases lately. I feel sad that grade 5 titanium in a butterfly clasp will not be graced in many wrists. Like you said, it was almost perfect.
It's worth pointing out that LIW also has a Squale Sub-3920 Artico in stock. They're fantastic and the Sub-39 line appears to be out of production now. Money better spent.
Question: is it possible to buy that bracelet stand alone? Also. Not gonna lie, I'm having a hard time hearing this is the first Squale titanium, while wearing, at least as far as I know, the actually first grade 5 1521. Bought it from Mark, great experience btw, and love the watch. Which, I should say it, is the COMSUBIN 1521 from last June. Thick but for all the right reasons and the best blue I've ever seen.
Man, beautiful watch! Looking at the sticker situation, I was just curious what do you end up doing with the watches you use for the videos? Do you box them back up and sell them? Or just keep them around the house, haha.
