I'm using both despair and withering touch on my pathfinder but applying them in a different way, i have despair paired with blasphemy and withering touch with the dark effigy totem. The spirit cost is a hurdle and you need to play closer to enemies so its higher risk but i find predicting some enemies movement for a manual cast troublesome at times and it helps with mana management. The dark effigy with withering touch i find very helpful as it distracts mobs quite often wilst applying wither and it stacks wither fast on bosses too. Ive moved away from toxic growth as its 100% the skill that has caused most my deaths because of the animation and i know thats a positioning skill issue for myself but i can accept that 😂, ill still use it for bosses as the stun buildup with it is more than you would think.
I’m doing dark effigy too, I tried blasphemy though and I thought the range was way too small to be useful. but maybe it’d be good to just run it in conjunction with the dark effigy
@MajesticLuigi I'm using magnified effect with blasphemy visually the curse doesn't look larger but it definitely feels like the effect has a wider radius so maybe that would help you, I also want to use the gem that makes the curse stronger (can't remember the name) but it also increases the spirit cost so I can't right now as I'm also using wind dancer. Blasphemy does make the play style a bit more risky but I feel the mobs jump ontop of you so much anyway that it just feels smoother for me than manual cast.
Effigy can also run Font of Rage, which works for poison builds as long as you're applying it with an attack skill and not something like Hexblast, which is another 30% more damage for the build.
Nice guide, I have added the Skills ‚Eye of Winter‘ to attach ‚Withering Touch‘ with the ‚Unleash‘ support it is max Stack almost on every cast, in addition I also added ‚Contagion‘ to keep all Debuffs up in bigger Packs and Poison is a Debuff so that works pretty good I‘m going to add ‚Zone of Control‘ from the Skilltree as well, then it will spread all Debuffs in roughly 4m, what is much larger then Herald of Plague or Contagious Contamination
Zone of control is for curses only, so I don't think it will change anything for proliferation. At this point eye of winter is just the best option of wither application. Then it also gives you crit weakness for free, eye of winter is probably the best for applying any on hit effect in general.
Tbh just using Dark effigy withering touch and maybe blind and mobility is much smoother. The cast time on toxic growth and how you move feels terrible while dark effigy will bait boss AoEs or stay up way longer while being cast on the move much more easily.
on toxic growth u can use poson arrow with explosion (area effect support) it will trigger the pustules when u hit enemy around pustules or poison infused rain of arrows which will make them explode as well
Been doing something similar on gas arrow+toxic growth spam chalupa monk with all the insane chaos nodes, pretty fun. Wither from totem quality is really good since poison triggers its attacks and contagion also spreads poison and despair curse if you put dot support gem on curse.

I'm a poison chalupa monk too, so fun clearing maps with a bow lol. I have that unique that splits projectiles to two targets so I'm using the first poison arrow skill you get with added projectiles support. Clearing mobs before I even see them lol
I add poison to toxic growth and armor break (because I also use physical attacks) and works great. poison cloud -toxic growth - poison burst arrow =explodes the pods immediately and magnifies dmg if you also have the "+1 poison active" mod
You can put martial tempo on toxic growth to increase the cast speed by 25%. Can also get attack speed on bow, weapon and gloves so the animation isnt a problem.
@@Whathappened875 It helps but only partialy. Toxic growth attack time is 'bow attack time' + 0.7s. Attack speed only applies to 'bow attack time', but not to extra 0.7s.

poison ailments dont scale off of increased chaos damage anymore (unless you are using the cultist bow, which are trash), but instead scale off of the initial hit, which is mostly physical. im not sure why he has all of those increased chaos damage nodes on his tree.

Can't count the amount of times I've died on bosses using Toxic Growth, and how many times I've ran OOM using Rain of Arrows on packs inefficiently. Definitely putting wither in the build. Cheers.

Yep. If there was any other skill that hit multiple times in one press ppl would use that. I think ruetoo is using eye of winter, some people are using dark effigy. But yeah toxic growth just isn't worth the animation.
Yeah the explosions are bugged or they got changed to not instantly explode when poisoned. Idk I tried it while leveling and it wasn't working either. Unfortunately you'll just have to wait until you have chaos damage somewhere on the build or enough int for dark effigy.
It would be withering presence with some other form of wither. Despair doesn't affect wither. Currently withering presence isn't good imo. It only scales to 3 stacks max, for most builds you only need wither for rares and bosses so having withering touch linked to eye of winter or rain of arrows is just better and more consistent while not having to lose an aura.
I'm trying out a poison ranger but I'm stuck in the middle of act 2 with little to no damage (multi-minute boss fights, 5-10 arrows to kill white mobs) 🤦
Poisons do chaos damage but a cultist bow isn't scaling poison damage more than a pure physical bow. At the higher end a physical bow will out perform a cultist bow.
i just started act 3 and couldnt get enough int to get despair. if i change my attribute nodes to be from dex to int, i wont be able to wear my gear. guess i'll have to level more?
Do you have chaos damage on your bow or some other source for this? I'm finding withering touch won't proc off toxic growth natively and I can only assume it's because you need chaos damage on the initial shot to trigger it
If you're using pure physical then you don't need the chaos nodes. +1 gem levels is pretty strong so it might still be worth it. In order to apply wither you need chaos damage. So if you dont take the chaos as extra node (pure chaos) you'll have to use dark effigy to apply wither.
hi ! hope u'll see my message, i have a gaz arrow pathfinder and i'm wondering, does the nodes from the tree that boost chaos dmg work on the gaz? cuz when i took the nodes it doesnt say on the skill stats that it do increase the dmg so y i'm wondering i rly hope someone find this message and will tell me
Why not withering presence gem? Getting 30 spirit seems way easier then branching from the tree so hard. And we need int anyway for despair. And since with so much int we even can go with ghost dance for shield gating.
As far as I know withering presence doesnt scale to max wither stacks, Ghost dance is decent but you still need some investment into es. If you are using two other auras it makes wind dancer harder to fit and alchemists boon as well.
@@SnoodleDS I guess it depends on your build, some builds need alchemist to function. So you cant sacrifice an aura for withering presence. I'm not playing gas arrow I just use it when testing because its an easy option.
ive been stacking physical damage and avoiding bows with elemental damage because i didnt think it helped my poision damage. but now im reading that poison damage is based on initial hit damage. does that mean elemental damage is factored in?
Wait wither works with attacks? It used to work for me but day 2 it stopped working, just tested it and it doesent work for me, should I re-download the game or how do I fix this?

Pathfinder gets double poisons, there's two sources of +1 poison stack on the tree and I'm using snakebites gloves that give +1. I'm also using comorbidity for a total of 10 stacks.
@KassSaiYaJiN I'm also using comorbidity and running legionaire but i don't think using both is giving me that extra stack I'm almost at the first +1 on the tree I'll keep my eyes open for those gloves thanks!
I've kind of noticed this too, but TG is very difficult to spam and pray you don't get insta-gibbed while locked in the cast animation or landing into a pool of death etc...I'm still unclear if after we poison the pods if the explosion counts as 100% poison dmg or if it's all physical
I'm annoyed that we can lock in place when we use that skill. I don't like doing all that flipping around stuff lmfao just shoot the arrows n don't flip me into a aoe 😂

Marlon is correct, poisons will always be chaos damage. No matter what the initial hit is even if it is pure phys when poison gets calculated it starts as a base of chaos damage then the amount of damage it does is based on the 20% of the damage from the hit (physical damage and chaos damage).

SUMMARY Let me see if I get this right: * Use lowest level Despair (72 Int, lvl 31) to increase damage by ~52% * Invest in "Wither Away" and "Pure Chaos" on the Passive Skill Tree SKILL GEMS Despair - Persistence (+40% duration) - Heightened Curse (+25% effect) - Magnified Effect (+40% area)(optional if having mana issues) Toxic Growth - Withering Touch (Inflicts Withered (+5% Chaos dmg)) - Chaos Infusion (+25% Chaos dmg) - Concentrated Effect (+40% dmg, -50% area)
Eye of winter is better than toxic growth for wither application. You also get increased crit as well from EoW. You will need some form of chaos gained as extra to use it. That's the only downside since it's a spell not an attack chaos infusion doesn't work. The support I'd use are Eye of winter - Withering touch - Unleash Optional - Deceleration - Inspiration - Arcane tempo (but cast speed shouldn't be a big issue)

For the time being Im still testing different options the main issue currently is survivability. Gas arrow is good but you have to like the playstyle (its more like cold dot then traditional poisons). However, if you are looking for a guide specifically to play a pathfinder build personally I'd suggest playing something else entirely. While you may have success if you dont have a deeper understanding outside of just following a guide then you will run into issues. If you dont have a ton of time to invest into a character Id personally play something else like gas arrow deadeye/lightning deadeye or frost monk. Not trying to push people away from pathfinder, but i think its important to be honest the class still needs some work.
I didn't see a purpose to the withering support gem as it nerfs the supporting skills damage by 50%. I feel like its pointless during campaign. But nice to see some good potential use for high level.
Gotta feel the weight I guess... But I totally agree, it feels like one of those things they will just revert eventually. If they wanted to nerf curses the only thing they can do is make them less impactful. The delay only makes them more annoying to use but will never make you not use them.
Non related but anyone running alchemists boon for pconc, it's a waste. And you don't need corpsewade for clear. Plague bearer will kill everything in vicinity that pconc doesn't.
Note: +% chaos damage does *not* affect poison damage, only the chaos part of your original hit damage,. so a lot of those passive points are kind of wasted - this is in order to prevent double scaling from chaos damage (otherwise Cultist bows would scale from bonus chaos damage twice).
This isn't true. Ask yourself what wither is. Cultist bows don't "scale twice" they only have flat chaos and no increased chaos damage and lose a ton of physical damage. There's a reason why people don't use cultist bows, even aside from extra proj implicit. The reason is it's just not enough damage and there is no way to scale flat chaos damage on the bow locally. Using a phys base is just better since you get more flat damage. IDK where people got this idea, the tool tip doesn't show you poison damage so if you look at it you won't see a dps increase on the tree. But if you actually play the game it's clear that increased chaos damage increases poison damage. This test is using 11% damage as extra chaos that's it. If increased chaos damage doesnt do anything to poisons and only the hit, then 70% increased chaos damage from wither wouldn't be anywhere near 20% more damage, when only around 10% of my damage is chaos damage.
Is true. You can see the specific poison damage in the skill details from gas arrow Poison scale 20% damacd from chaos and physical from your Hit damage. If you use cultist bow, chaos node work. If you use physical bow they don't work. Poison Is still chaos damage so either wither and dispair will work . But % chaos damage only will work with chaos bows.

I understand what he is saying now. The mob is taking increased chaos damage from wither vs you doing increased chaos damage happens when the hit is calculated not the ailment. I forgot the order of operations, this is why we need PoB.
Despair reduces chaos resistance, Wither increases the chaos damage a target takes. I'm only correcting you because its important to not have misinfo next to good information. The end all be all is this, increased chaos damage on the tree is applied only to the hit, aliments are after the hit. So anything that is applying to the hit does not increase the poison damage after the hit also. Thanks for bringing this up I was forgetting the order of operations for ailments.
No extra effort? Using Despair then toxic growth then gas arrow Is TON of work. U might aswell not even build attackspeed since u dont need it if we gonna utilize these long animation spells.

i feel blasphemy isn’t as good mostly because is reduces the effect of despair, not to mention that 60 spirit can probably be better used

the withering touch doesn't stay at max stacks for very long so I use dark effigy to maintain the stacks, also I can use chaos infusion somewhere else

Really nice video. What supports are you running on gas arrow?
Scatter shot, heft, deadly poisons, comorbidity, last support can be anything chaos mastery or inspiration if mana cost gets too high with levels.
Toxic Growth seems better as a situational escape tool and rain of arrows serving better as a wither applicator (but I haven't tested this out yet)

Upgrade your bow. Flat damage is very important.
Just use cursed ground support and the curse will be instant cast? Maybe as a 4th socket.
I use it with flammability.
It is instant but if the boss moves at all you lose it.

Bleed is pretty bad rn since axes arent out yet. Im sure concoction is probably fine but its probably the worst out of all the concoctions.
hi ! hope u'll see my message, i have a gaz arrow pathfinder and i'm wondering, does the nodes from the tree that boost chaos dmg work on the gaz? cuz when i took the nodes it doesnt say on the skill stats that it do increase the dmg so y i'm wondering i rly hope someone find this message and will tell me
They only will increase your damage if you have flat chaos damage. If your bow is only physical then increased chaos damage does nothing.
Why not withering presence gem? Getting 30 spirit seems way easier then branching from the tree so hard. And we need int anyway for despair. And since with so much int we even can go with ghost dance for shield gating.
As far as I know withering presence doesnt scale to max wither stacks, Ghost dance is decent but you still need some investment into es. If you are using two other auras it makes wind dancer harder to fit and alchemists boon as well.
Alchemist IMO not even worth bothering with. And I guess best way for wither away node is to anoint it.
@@SnoodleDS I guess it depends on your build, some builds need alchemist to function. So you cant sacrifice an aura for withering presence. I'm not playing gas arrow I just use it when testing because its an easy option.
ive been stacking physical damage and avoiding bows with elemental damage because i didnt think it helped my poision damage. but now im reading that poison damage is based on initial hit damage. does that mean elemental damage is factored in?
Initial hit but only takes 20% of phys/chaos damage. So you should avoid elemental damage on bows and other equipment

Some spells don’t require a specific weapon. So a good rule of thumb is to look at the tags for the skill to see if there is weapon requirements
Wait wither works with attacks? It used to work for me but day 2 it stopped working, just tested it and it doesent work for me, should I re-download the game or how do I fix this?

Pathfinder gets double poisons, there's two sources of +1 poison stack on the tree and I'm using snakebites gloves that give +1. I'm also using comorbidity for a total of 10 stacks.
@KassSaiYaJiN I'm also using comorbidity and running legionaire but i don't think using both is giving me that extra stack I'm almost at the first +1 on the tree I'll keep my eyes open for those gloves thanks!
I think the Despair slows my build down too much except boss fights but I passive Wither so I run that.
I only use it on bosses and some rares
Main reason to not put wither on toxic growth: its the highest single-target dps poison skill in the game. Its better with damage supports imo.
I've kind of noticed this too, but TG is very difficult to spam and pray you don't get insta-gibbed while locked in the cast animation or landing into a pool of death etc...I'm still unclear if after we poison the pods if the explosion counts as 100% poison dmg or if it's all physical
I'm annoyed that we can lock in place when we use that skill. I don't like doing all that flipping around stuff lmfao just shoot the arrows n don't flip me into a aoe 😂

Ok so is poison damage always chaos? I thought it was physical or chaos, depending on the ability that was applying it?
Physical and chaos contribute to the magnitude of the poison.
Poison does chaos damage.
Marlon is correct, poisons will always be chaos damage. No matter what the initial hit is even if it is pure phys when poison gets calculated it starts as a base of chaos damage then the amount of damage it does is based on the 20% of the damage from the hit (physical damage and chaos damage).

Ailments are calculated after the hit so increased chaos damage you do doesnt effect the poison afaik.

- Magnified Effect (+40% area)(optional if having mana issues)
Toxic Growth
- Withering Touch (Inflicts Withered (+5% Chaos dmg))
- Chaos Infusion (+25% Chaos dmg)
- Concentrated Effect (+40% dmg, -50% area)
Eye of winter is better than toxic growth for wither application. You also get increased crit as well from EoW.
You will need some form of chaos gained as extra to use it. That's the only downside since it's a spell not an attack chaos infusion doesn't work.
The support I'd use are
Eye of winter
- Withering touch
- Unleash
Optional
- Deceleration
- Inspiration
- Arcane tempo (but cast speed shouldn't be a big issue)

do you have a poison gas build you recommend?
For the time being Im still testing different options the main issue currently is survivability. Gas arrow is good but you have to like the playstyle (its more like cold dot then traditional poisons). However, if you are looking for a guide specifically to play a pathfinder build personally I'd suggest playing something else entirely. While you may have success if you dont have a deeper understanding outside of just following a guide then you will run into issues. If you dont have a ton of time to invest into a character Id personally play something else like gas arrow deadeye/lightning deadeye or frost monk. Not trying to push people away from pathfinder, but i think its important to be honest the class still needs some work.

I didn't see a purpose to the withering support gem as it nerfs the supporting skills damage by 50%. I feel like its pointless during campaign. But nice to see some good potential use for high level.
why tf did they add delay to curses its just annoying to play now.
Gotta feel the weight I guess... But I totally agree, it feels like one of those things they will just revert eventually. If they wanted to nerf curses the only thing they can do is make them less impactful. The delay only makes them more annoying to use but will never make you not use them.
Non related but anyone running alchemists boon for pconc, it's a waste. And you don't need corpsewade for clear. Plague bearer will kill everything in vicinity that pconc doesn't.
Note: +% chaos damage does *not* affect poison damage, only the chaos part of your original hit damage,. so a lot of those passive points are kind of wasted - this is in order to prevent double scaling from chaos damage (otherwise Cultist bows would scale from bonus chaos damage twice).
This isn't true. Ask yourself what wither is. Cultist bows don't "scale twice" they only have flat chaos and no increased chaos damage and lose a ton of physical damage. There's a reason why people don't use cultist bows, even aside from extra proj implicit. The reason is it's just not enough damage and there is no way to scale flat chaos damage on the bow locally. Using a phys base is just better since you get more flat damage.
IDK where people got this idea, the tool tip doesn't show you poison damage so if you look at it you won't see a dps increase on the tree. But if you actually play the game it's clear that increased chaos damage increases poison damage. This test is using 11% damage as extra chaos that's it. If increased chaos damage doesnt do anything to poisons and only the hit, then 70% increased chaos damage from wither wouldn't be anywhere near 20% more damage, when only around 10% of my damage is chaos damage.

Poison scale 20% damacd from chaos and physical from your Hit damage. If you use cultist bow, chaos node work. If you use physical bow they don't work.
Poison Is still chaos damage so either wither and dispair will work . But % chaos damage only will work with chaos bows.

The tooltip *does* show your poison damage if you know where to look ("Poison damage from main weapon"), and it does in fact change with poison magnitude and ailment magnitude as you assign it.
Your 11% extra chaos damage does scale with that +% chaos damage, but you get a % of a % so not a whole lot.
I understand what he is saying now. The mob is taking increased chaos damage from wither vs you doing increased chaos damage happens when the hit is calculated not the ailment. I forgot the order of operations, this is why we need PoB.
Despair reduces chaos resistance, Wither increases the chaos damage a target takes. I'm only correcting you because its important to not have misinfo next to good information. The end all be all is this, increased chaos damage on the tree is applied only to the hit, aliments are after the hit. So anything that is applying to the hit does not increase the poison damage after the hit also. Thanks for bringing this up I was forgetting the order of operations for ailments.
