Great video, sir! Once again you proved that with minimal tools, a person willing to take some time and follow a plan can be a DIYcreator and build a functional, modern, and beautiful lamp. Bravo!
Amazing. This is called a designer or art work. How much hard work behind this , a genius mind also. Sometimes we think about a piece of work that how simple it is and it should be not that costly. But we don't realize the technicalities , brilliance & hard work behind it. That is why a designer or art work is priceless. Only the makers knew it's worth.👏👏👏
Dude, this is a great video - not only because of the interesting build but also because you're up-front about showing your mistakes and talking about what you might do differently next time. Good job.
thank you for sharing your awesome projects, my nephew is 7 years old, he was so inspired. we went to Lowes. we made a Tray. it came out really nice. I was trying to find more Black Carpenters so he can see more positive Black Men, that look like him, I looked for 2hrs. nothing came up, not even your channel, I found you by accident. your channel is truly a blessing to us.
Yeah please do more like this! It's awesome to see wood and some electronics merge together to create household items we all use. Also, it's cool to see you do it all without power tools!
I like your videos but I especially like your narrations. You tell us exactly what you did and point out how you could have done it better. Much respect.
i have a light that adjusts brightness by tapping a small touch sensitive spot with your finger. i feel like if/when i do this build i would integrate that somehow i think it would be a cool spin on it!!!
while not the most advanced projects i really apriciate how much effort you put into your projects to makr them very clear and visable. it really brings the viewer into the project. and your discriptions so clearly list everything. THANK YOU for your contributions!!!
Nice project! My personal suggestion would be to change the zinc philips head bolt for a countersunk socket head bolt, ideally one that had been plated black or a raw stainless steel fastener. Most bolts I buy from suppliers come in black, so there's no need to buy silver ones and paint them, as you should be able to get a black one fairly easily. It's amazing how much cleaner exposed fasteners look when they're socket-head.... even if it does make things look like they came from IKEA lol.
As ive got a nerve disease and can't work anymore im starting to miss building stuff like this more and more, and its good to see the pride u have in making it, ill go ahead and try to hobby it a lil bit more and maybe got some ideas for you!
Ha thank you thrilled to hear. I was worried that length of the video would turn viewers away. Then I thought about the info I would have to cut out which would have defeated the purpose.
DIY Creators The length didn't turn me away you did a great job breaking down the project step by step and just seeing the lamp at the beginning of the video I didn't care how long it took to hear and see the completion of the project/video
I am a seamstress so I am measuring, cutting and assembling all the time....I can do this! You make it look sooo simple.....u know, I'll pose my questions soon. Great job!
Great work and project! One comment about your soldering though. At 18:35 you were "carrying" the solder to the wires, i.e. melting solder on the iron and then applying it to the wires. That's a bad technique creating cold solder joints where the solder hardens but not actually bonds to the metal of the wire. This can cause failure over time, especially when the joints are moving. try applying a bit of solder to the iron to improve contact, then apply the iron to the wires to heat them up and only then bring the solder in contact with the wire. The solder will melt around the wire and bond with it, creating a good contact joint that will last as long as the concrete base.
Very good and helpful video. Very clear message, simple no loud music. Love to learn how you created the video, which cameras, which tripod angles etc.
I love watching how everything turns out! I can't even use a power drill properly, but the directions are so clear and detailed, I feel like I could make all of this at home.
GLEN very cool take on a table lamp!! Inspired me to build one very soon!!!!!!! Thanks again for another GREAT video, you have some really awesome, creative ideas! I agree with another poster here- I appreciate you showing how you fix mistakes made, AND the mentions you tend to make in your videos, that give alternative ideas for tools, methods, and solutions!!!!!!!!
Are few times that I enjoy enjoying projects and this I have enjoyed very carefully and I think it is a high quality work and a knowledge of a true professional, deserves a round of applause and my thanks for sharing your experience, greetings
Looks great but you should never switch the negative wire. Always switch the positive one. At 12V it may not matter but at bigger Voltages it could be a live saver. If someone gets into the electric circuit by touching a metal part which is under power, it gives them a shock, even if the switch is turned of because the electricity flows through the body in the ground. ALWAYS SWITCH THE POSITIVE WIRE
the way you tell us how to fix that problem how to fix those problem is what makes u different from all others ❤❤ love your work we want more project regarding study-working table and things. like this
I made a simpler version of your floating shelf and I will also try to make this lamp as a gift for my lady. Thank you for how well you make your How-To's!
He connected the negative at the bottom. The reason he soldered one negative at the top because the led connection at the bottom o f the most right strip was blocking the connection of negatives at the bottom. Just look at 14:05 and freeze the frame there.
Thanks for showing me how to add a low voltage lighting system to a wooden lamp and how to make and attach a concrete base. I am planning a similar project.
Awesome Job, Brother!! A perfect contrast. Elegant, yet masculine. Classic, yet modern. The marriage of scavenged industrial materials and practically of the design gives birth to it's honest and sleek minimalistic beauty. Especially impressed with the choice to use "hand" tools and all the helpful tips throughout the video. I just stumbled upon your channel and have become an instant fan. Keep up the good work!! Can't wait to see more!
I really enjoy your videos. They are both thorough and creative. You area a very skilled designer/craftsman who has a knack for explaining difficult processes to people who may not have prior experience doing them. I also appreciate your mild temperament and willingness to allow yourself to recover from mistakes without starting over.
Home Depot and other big box stores sell 24" x 48" diffusers with a variety of textures in clear and milky white that are normally used under fluorescent lights. They are about $10.00 and could be cut down to work and would eliminate the painting. It would add cost but give you a reason to build several more. This is a very cool design.
Found this by accident but really enjoyed it. You've done an excellent job in showing all the steps and explaining everything in simple terms. Two thumbs up- lots of work involved with this but the result is well worth it. Looking to seeing more from you.
You are absolutely incredible, my man! Best regards all the way from Sweden Scandinavia! You also seem to be friendly person. I will follow your work! Many thanks and keep on keeping on, man!
Man!! You 're really awesome, and exceeds professionalism. While, i'd like to think about maintenance and replace wires or something. Also i recommend to offer such piece of arts for selling.
Glen, another winner! It looks really modern, but not over the top. Narration is clear and eve if your not watching, you know what's going on. BTW, great intro! See if you can pick up a Stanley #71 router plane. It will allow you to gut grooves easily, plus you look really cool using classic iron! AAR
You're a craftsman, Glen. I learned many things from watching your video. What will stick with me are (1) wiping on polyurethane satin finish rather than spraying it on (2) spraying paint on one side of acrylic to hide wires (3) sketching wire ingress/egress before cutting the wood Thank you for sharing your tips.
Thanks for showing your mistakes and your fixes. It shows you're human, and helps us learn how to solve problems..
good video, very down to earth. I like that you don't use a bunch of crazy tools, or act pretentious about it, but still get a good result

Loving the videos and how you're not afraid to show your mistakes/teach us how not to do it! You inspire me to make something original!
I really like the you don't redo and edit out the things you do wrong. Makes it feel much more natural. People make mistakes
Thank you. I don't mind showing the mistakes.

Very nice design and execution! Well done!
Thank you

it's a miter (/mitre) block :)

I really like this lamp, and I appreciate that you keep your mistakes in your videos. Mistakes happen and it's nice seeing ways to work through them.
Thank you, of course If I show my mistake I may save many from making the same one.

You know what I liked the most? you showed that you do not always need sophisticated machines to make beautiful pieces.
This came out awesome. Good job man!
I am a seamstress so I am measuring, cutting and assembling all the time....I can do this! You make it look sooo simple.....u know, I'll pose my questions soon. Great job!

I always get the wire insulation melted using this technique :(
Out of all the wood working channels I am subbed to. Your's is the only one doing cool little interesting home decor projects from scratch. Love it.
Thanks man, I appreciate it.
OMG That is crazy good looks like something from Crate and Barrel!! BTW that's a compliment
CB2
I think this lamp is better than the stuff from crate and barel...😂😂
you did a really good job working out all the kinks and problems and making the design as well finished and professional as possible
Thank you. Yep these are all made for the first time. Of course if I make a prototype I'd have no mistake to show. Then that wouldn't be any fun.
Great video again! i like it that you show flaws and ways to improve on it or to cover them.
Thank you. I know showing mistakes are not a sexy thing but I do it to help viewers.
I really enjoyed watching your gift in action. I've never seen an carpenter who is also an electrician, so inspiring. 👏🏾
This guy is a genius
Beautiful creation amigo! Great video shots! Framing, editing, narration - top-notch! Can’t wait to see more of your videos. Thank you.
This is nice lamp on worktable. Its better use aluminium under LED for cooling and fire prevence. 😉
Very good and helpful video.
Very clear message, simple no loud music.
Love to learn how you created the video, which cameras, which tripod angles etc.
That looks really nice. Well done!
Thank you
Mate this may be 4 years old but it's fantastic! Thanks especially as you point out your mistakes something few RUclips DIY'd include.
Glenn, as always mate, bloody good work!
Outstanding modern design. I especially like the fact that you got the wood for FREE!
Thank you. Me too :D
Damnit you're so handy! I wish I had skills like this haha. Love your stuff. Dont know how you ended up on my recommendations but I'm glad. new sub.

Thank you :) that's my goal.

As usual great job and awesome explanation. I’m always curious why people give thumbs down. If it’s not for you, just move on.
Amazing, man. Good job.

Nice idea, I might have to build one of those for my computer desk! :-)

GLEN very cool take on a table lamp!! Inspired me to build one very soon!!!!!!! Thanks again for another GREAT video, you have some really awesome, creative ideas! I agree with another poster here- I appreciate you showing how you fix mistakes made, AND the mentions you tend to make in your videos, that give alternative ideas for tools, methods, and solutions!!!!!!!!
you are the Sir Sir, wonderful
I like that you didn't use all your big machines for this video, this is something i can try at home!
Nice adjustment of parts)))
Are few times that I enjoy enjoying projects and this I have enjoyed very carefully and I think it is a high quality work and a knowledge of a true professional, deserves a round of applause and my thanks for sharing your experience, greetings
Beautiful lamp, make another please.
Cool build! Ultimately came out much bigger and bright than I would've thought
Thank you
Great Lamp! Love it. Great.
Nice work. I like the use of hand tools for those that don't have routers and miter saws.
Thank you. That's the reason I did this one to prove that some projects can be done with less tools.
Thank you!! You are a master!!!
I'm a craftsman. This is craftsmanship. Nice work!
Nice! thank you.

Ingenious
Love your combination of wood, concrete and LEDs. Also all your projects are fresh and modern.
THAT SO GOOD ..
I'm an electrician for 31 years and the "bridge" analogy to describe a switch is brilliant.
te quedo chingon amigo =)
Thanks for showing me how to add a low voltage lighting system to a wooden lamp and how to make and attach a concrete base. I am planning a similar project.
Perfect👍🏻
Been watching your videos for a while. I like that you are using just basic tools. Very cool project.

I literally blew on my screen to remove the cement dust when he drilled through the base.
Majdermind keep a spray bottle with water around and wear a mask.
Boomer 😂
really nice! you can also get the foggy effect on the plastic by sanding it.
thanks!!

I would you a fine sandpaper to frost up the plexiglas

Beautiful and elegant in its simplicity. Simple is almost always better. Thanks for posting this!

Thanks Albert. Just checked out the router plane It looks pretty cool.
Very nice project. I really like the attention to detail to hide the cords so well.
That yellow cutting tool is awesome!
You're a craftsman, Glen. I learned many things from watching your video. What will stick with me are
(1) wiping on polyurethane satin finish rather than spraying it on
(2) spraying paint on one side of acrylic to hide wires
(3) sketching wire ingress/egress before cutting the wood
Thank you for sharing your tips.
That's Great Thank you :)
