I really love the TOS aesthetic, it's so simple, but really nice. Also I equally love the TMP era aesthetics as well.
That’s a fun design. If TOS had money, I could see them making something like this.
I LOVE this ship. It's old and new schools mixed, and also reminds me of the Condor Dreadnought from SFB
I love the way the bird on the underside of the hull looks like it's swooping in to catch prey when the ship is in motion. Very cool.
I really wish they had the opposite side painted on the top
I think the Thrai saucer and the Federation saucers are a case of converging design evolution.. Saucer is just a logical way to pack most volume with least surface area outside of a sphere
You would have a valid point *IF* drag existed in space.
Nebulas, planetary atmospheres , saving materials during construction....maximizing energy efficiency for warp bubbles and shield size vs how much stuff is inside the shielded zone
Oh and on a side note, if you think atmospheric drag should be planned around, what about the shockwaves and explosive plasma from weapon hits? Maybe being designed in certain patterns expands potential to survive the first couple mines or hits it takes incase they are fighting a race not as advanced as themselves

Original script dialogue for "The Balance of Terror" indicated Federation officers strongly believed the Romulans had stolen Federation designs.
This is further supported by dialogue indicating Romulan design was far behind Federation design at the point where they last had contact.
This is reportedly the premise going forward when they designed the Romulan BOP.
It's probably safe to say the similarity was not meant to be coincidental.
@@maxissixam6049 it dose actually. But that’s not the reason for not using a sphere. A sphere has a greater surface area making it easier to target and hit with weapons meaning it’s impractical for a warship. Which is why saucers are used. But in a more practical use cones would be better for warships.
Nice fusion of the BoP and the later Warbird.
You mean the T'Liss and the D'deridex?
@@theharbingerofconflation Yes.
@@ianentwistle5052 maybe they'll make this ship canon at some point
@@theharbingerofconflation I think it's worthy of becoming canon.
@@ianentwistle5052 They could have it show up in Strange New Worlds.
Captain Foley's third-nacelle nerdgasm------stuff like that are why I love these guys.
The dodo bird ship is an Oberth class.
I own this in game. It honestly does look great. It fits the TOS era based on the Bird of Prey and colours. That saucer section is great. Personally it does not need a third nacelle or a fin. When you are flying this you still feel this matches with a TOS bird of prey. The fin is the middle section. It appears in a mission over galorndon core. It is large for TOS.
pretty badass design that slides to the future it’s great
In my mind this is what we should have seen when those Klingon Battlecruisers were on screen
It's pretty cool. I think you guys are overthinking it.
I am a huge TOS ship fan.
I love this design. I would definitely like to see Eaglemoss add THIS one to their STOL ships collection!
I really hope you'll take a look at the Atlas Class Dreadnought.
Now that's a Federation Dreadnought i'd want to get.
The0rion yes! This! The atlas is my favorite ship in the game! I have several of that class. I have one of these thrai dreaddy and two d9 for my kdf toons
The Atlas-class is okay, though... I think it would probably be better if the bussard collectors were less obscured by the primary hull.
Dude you are space rich! I'm jealous
I've got one, it's totally worth it.
Raphael Bonanno I still use mine, it’s a tank! ruclips.net/video/qfPfe7wzqDs/видео.html
YES, that underside saucer spine all the way to forming a beak! Stewart, you improved the Thrai a thousand percent!
I love that this looks like Jeffries or someone of his era designed it, and it is a great connecting point between TOS and TNG era Romulan designs.
Good episode--very cool ship. If you need to clutter it up w a 3rd nacelle, it should be in the center aft, kind of sticking out of the back. Imo, anyway.
the language on the ship is very era fitting. Awesome. I love the rear view of course. very restrained in design
Beautiful TOS era Romulan warbird. Wouldn't have looked out of place at all in TOS remastered.
The ship really bridges the TOS Romulan ship with the TNG warbirds.
OMG the Romulan Dreadnought looks totally amazing really awesome
Love this design!
I likr this design, I think besides adding a fin to the middle, the green wing design could also go into that undetailed section, and you could replace the clearly top bird at the bottom with a green one that fits more of the design of the top. Would also like to see the saucer portion be more oval, making it a "pre beak".
STO designs have gotten much better then why they have been in the past.
I'm not a fan of the TOS Romulan design, but that aside, this is a perfect example of how to blend/join up different eras to create consistent canon. A design true to the TOS style inspired by a TNG era design. You can do the same going forward. Discovery people should watch this. It's a lot easier than one things.
This is a nice design. Need more alien designs in Star Trek universe.
One other option would have been to taper the saucer a bit (like a proto neck) and have not a beak but an extra bit that could later evolve in a proper beak.
Sweet! This video made a week ago, and I won this ship out of the Undiscovered Lock Box 4 Days ago. Loved the video Thanks Guys.
I love this ship!
beautiful ship, now we need a gooood story for it!
Aesthetically, I find this intriguing. I am gonna build a virtual model of this variant. I wish I could upload a photo when this is done.
Love to see Eaglemoss make a run of these
I do like the ship designs in that show. I really like them.
I like this ship. I did sketches of a similar TMP era prototype for my Balance Incident fanfic.
Romulan azteking on tht back part and a faux beak attack gun, and it rocks.
Looks like TOS Romulan style D'deridex with Jupiter station saucer. Cool.
When I first saw this ship in STO I laughed at it as a TOS'ed D'deridex. Then I really looked at it and I thought it was pretty nice. I want one. It's just a TOS Romulan Warbird bent downwards with an under section.
When Starfleet captured a heavily damaged D'deridex prototype and inserted a saucer section. Nice design, deserves an interesting story.
I personally always wanted them to show a Romulan ship between TOS and TNG. We know the romulans were around. The Enterprise-C fought them at Nerandra III. So i like this ship because it feels like something you may have seen during that fight.
Great design! Definitely could use a 3rd, or dare I say, 4th nacelle... maybe 2 smaller nacelles embedded in the aft sweep. Then you could have separation with each half fully capable, or all together with that much more speed.
You could make the saucer more a teardrop shape to give it a pseudo beak maybe?
Your awesome and awesome video be safe out there I love this ship
Thanks for the wonderful video guys! Love the channel! I would love to see you guys revisit the Rickover class Starship. One of my favorites!
8:20 The original concept in Balance of Terror was the Bird of Prey was going to have Starfleet looking features, such as the saucer and warp engines, which had Styles think of Romulan spies in Starfleet and leaking designs to the imperial engineers. This ship, as is the Bird of Prey, can match that story idea.
Reminds me of the Oberth class from the title card.
Smart precursor design.
A really great video i enjoyed it very much
Years ago, somebody made a picture of a Galaxy Class ship reconfigured in the manner of this Rommie Dreadnought.... Would love to see someone make that again someday....
Actually I don't have this ship but I do have the T6 original series bird of prey which is pretty awesome. And I also brought over the console from the T'varo that basically gives it the ability to fire off a big red Type R plasma torpedo.
The top view is VERY reminiscent of the TNG Romulan science/scout ship. Especially the "wings".
I honestly thought this was an amazing design when I first saw it in game. Just a perfect blend of TOS and TNG Romulan aesthetic.
I liked this ship in game, but I too thought it need something extra so I began making my own.
I also agree for a video on the Atlas-class, would like to show you guys my in-game TOS character, since I tried to equip him with nothing but TOS-era gear as well as ships. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work. By the way, have you guys made a video on the D9 Klingon Dreadnought, if you did don't remember having watched it.
Awesome ship
In one of the Star Trek comic’s set around ST 6 it shows one of the romulan ships that was aquired from the Klingons it shows were they added the bottom section that the TNG era romulan war birds had, if you could get enough info on that ship it would make a great companion video to this one
I always thought this ship fit pretty well...
One i would like to see that was only shown in snes starfleet academy. I think it was the romulan pheonix. It was very simple of course, but to me could have fit for a battleship/dreadnought for the tos romulans.
I do think that the saucer section had a beak part with a plasma torpedo launchrs
From the rear, it looks very gem hadarish
Nice. Really needs the fin though.
Say, ain't that a fine lookin bird!!!
Cool Ship
I like this ship as she is
You speak of adding a fin on the back, as per TOS Romulan Bird of Prey and you also speak of a third nacelle. How about using an exagerated fin on the read deck to attach the third nacelle! That would put it more in line with the TOS dreadnought per Franz Joseph.
Has it ever been explored / discussed about the similarities between the TOS Romulan ship and a Federation Constitution class?
Cool ship. But I think Samuel should make some models based on his suggestions. That would be awesome.
What exactly is this ship armed with? I can't find anything except that it has 5 hard points in front, and 3 facing rearward.
I think if they added a 3rd nacelle connected the fin as a strut on the top abit more towards the back only a little and have the saucer smoothed into the nacelles and have the small neck in-between the two Hull's stretch to the tip of the saucer but again angle it so it's smooth I think that would make it look a bit better what does anyone else think
If you go back and look at the production history of TOS, you will find that Roddenberry and company were on a very tight budget. This is one reason they had the Romulans buying ships from the Klingons. Roddenberry was doing his best to stay within budget. Also, 22nd century Romulus was considered a 'poor planet'. They were isolationists with little trade or commerce to support their economy. So, how does a 'poor planet' afford a dreadnought class warship? Issues like this can sink the franchise. Proceed with caution.
I would remove the escape pods an add two fins going down the back.
they can place a mega phaser on top!
Have you guys ever modified a 3rd nacelle on this design???
Capt. Foley it is a t6 reward ship. Only can be earned from lock boxes.
or exchange.
Either way it's hard to get
how about romulan version of nebula class.
put a mission podon top instead of third nacelle
George Pal's War of the worlds Martian war machine could have been an influence .
It looks as Romulan as it gets.
It needs a peek, not a saucer section that’s his primary flaw.
DUDE a THIRD NACELLE!! hahahah and then "don't build a dodo ship" Entertaining Trekyards moments for best of if there ever is one.
The top view looks like a Dominion ship.
this thing has also little romulan fighters it can drop
Please do the STO TOS Dreadnaught it's a beautiful ship and even you will like it Captain Foley
Nice.
I like it as it is ; add pieces to it would only make it look like it was from another era - i.e. post motion picture. The whole point of it is to look like the same design lineage as the TOS Warbird. Sticking an elongated cockpit on it or painting it green would be missing the point entirely. If you did that it would be more of a Post Enterprise Era ship then.
Also being the shape it is it looks like the Romulans were appropriating the designs for the Obereth class too.
I do think the 3 Nacelle version is worth doing though.
I'm truly a fan of all TOS, it's an amazing post as always friends. I love the look of this Romulan ship, and can only lament at what star trek discovery might have been with such a look.
Hi Guys! If you take the bird emblem off and add Federation markings, it might look like a legitimate Federation starship! :-)
Fusion, good idea...standing anywhere in the neck of that ship, bad idea. Problem is they would only have used this if the K-7 Warbird wasn't good enough.
D'Dododex-Class Warbirds with saucer seperation FTW. Crap! Now If I get a Thrai Warbird, I can't help but name it I.R.W. D'Dododex.
Where’s the docking port
how many in the crew,
Does the saucer separate in an emergency?
The way it's designed it looks like it should. By looking at it the escape pods on the dorsal area on the main body of the ship could be for the engineering crew, with the saucer being for the rest of the command crew, troops and so on. However that goes against the philosophy of the Romulans we see in TOS, where they refuse to be taken prisoner. You could suppose that could be in the event of a singularity malfunction. No point in sacrificing the crew over a technical problem.
If you were to modify the design a bit I could see this as a troop Carrier or colony ship. In a troop transport role you would leave the stardrive in orbit and have the saucer section descend to the planet to disembark troops. Remember at this time in the timeline it would take considerable time to beem down the same volume of troops.
In a colony ship role it would be much the same idea but the saucer section would stay on the planet as a building. The stardrive section could then go back and pick up a second and third and so on saucers for the colony. It could even work in wartime with it providing the role of a planetary base during ground campaigns and such. So many possibilities from one design!
Btw did I mention I love this design?
I know this conflicts with Foleys design but can we please get an Atlas review?
Locked behind boxes. i hate that. Its a nice ship though. Does not have an STD.
Replace the saucer shape with cresent moon dsign
That warbird is beautiful, only downside is that stupid bridge dome. Why the bridge dome
Looks very Starfleet Command.
I was thinking the same. I believe there is a romulan ship that looks very similar, but it's meant to be a frigate or something
Eh romaluns are known for taking designs from their enemies to see if they are useful
I wanna like this, but that saucer section really doesn't scream "Romulan" to me. Should have a more bird like front.
what do you think say remove the Bird of pray it could be a new star fleat ship and add three more Decks to Saucer and some changes to insides it could pass for new star fleet ship yes 3 wariness sell,s
I really dislike the use of "Dreadnought" in space ship type. IRL, a Dreadnought was just a Battleship whose design was inspired by the HMS Dreadnought. They became the norm, and their type wasn't "Dreadnought," it was "Battleship."
Don't know why you like 3-nacelle ships? I'd say you're a bit ODD 🤣
too bad these TOS Dreadnaughts aren't included in the Temporal Agent Special pack, these would make that pack a much better deal for non-starfleet characters 🤔
Romulans?! But noone’s heard from them in 50 years!
Model Minutes If you play as a romulan in STO you probably know about her.
Everything is better in threes.
calm yourself Stuart, youll do yourself a misxhief!! someone need to put a 3rd nacelle on this deffo, just for Stuart and am sure everyone would like to see it
