I love how artistic these guys are and how their songwriting is based purely on the concept of each song so every song has a slightly different style or genre, that's always the best way to do it in my mind rather than making every song a rock song or every song a hip hop song or whatever. This can be annoying to hear but God is real and loves you. He desperately wants a relationship with you. If you ask him to help you he will. It will get better!
What gave me reason to live was my faith. As Tyler says about his tattoos, find something that it’s personal important for you and make it the reason ❤️ It’s worth staying alive and find the way out of Dema. Stay alive |-/

I’m the chick with red hair in the thumbnail. I feel so incredibly honored to be apart of such a wild experience! Twenty one pilots is the dopest and such great performers like I’ve never seen before. Big shout out to Andrew Donoho for being such an amazing director working so hard along with such legends 🥹
I’m an old fart who loves the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s with quite a few 00s. Really don’t take notice of today’s music, has to be special for me to take notice and boy does this one blow my mind. Awesome.
I lost my boyfriend to suicide in December and so listening to this song makes me think of him. I kind of put myself in his shoes and it makes me sad that my boyfriend felt like there was no other way out. When Tyler says, “I remember certain things. What I was wearing…” that brings me back to that night, the memories of finding him, the cops, everything. The last section of the song with the ukelele always makes me tear up no matter how many times I listen to this song. For me, this is one of their greatest songs written. I’m praying I get tickets to seem them live and just feel all that emotion in person.
this perfectly describes what it's like being in school struggling with your mental health. standing on a road in your school uniform wishing you could just give up everything. thank you guys so much for this. thank you so much
Literallyyy, this song brought back memories of my botched semester at uni where I was like 'fuck it it cannot get worse just leave this semester and try to make up the next' and like, sometimes you gotta take that step and know when you can't help things anymore?
I think, melodically, this is the best punk rock song I’ve ever heard, sorry San Francisco inhabitants…shivers are not for sale…this one is about solving our own imperfect lives, accepting them like they are, without forgetting about yourself. Just start fresh with a new year. A sweet and slow opportunity ahead, for us, 22nd pilots out there. Cheers from Milan, Italy. Stay fresh, even though you can’t change what you have done.
I think I’m realizing that this whole lore isn’t just based on Tyler’s fight with mental health, but also him dealing with his “attempt.” I feel like the Heavydirtysoul music video was him first taking that moment head on, hence the car burning up and then he escapes into trench after battling it and he is feeling better. I feel like this music video shows that the cycle never breaks and he has to face it again, but since he is in a better mental state he’s pretty much reliving it through this video. It was obviously a really traumatic experience and it makes this song so sad but so beautiful at the same time.
With Josh being in the road I feel like that’s because he doesn’t battle with depression like Tyler does, as he’s able to face things head on and they swerve out of the way for him. Idk might be reaching but just a thought.
I got more lol. I think him performing and then it going to him reliving that moment is him using playing shows to help him battle depression. That’s why when he gets out of the road, it cuts back to him playing music
How are they so versatile?! Tyler can rap insanely well on stuff like Overcompensate and Levitate, sing melodically on songs like Legend, or be an absolute polymath by pushing this punk-rock esque vibe on what is easily one of the coolest tracks they’ve put out in a while. So hyped for whatever these two put out on the full album!
I think it's because the healing message in the lyrics comes first, and the style of music second. He's not really tied to one genre that he loves above all others, so it's free to experiment with different styles all the time. As long as the lyrical themes are still there it's a T0P song, whatever the music sounds like.
@@Jonny0Wactually that’s a great point. I think that he finds the message before the song and adapts the style to whatever fits the motive etc. It’s insane how many genres he’s able to pull off though!
@@ayudaporfavor2124maybe so, but I think the call and response nature of it shows a bit of pop punky style, hence me writing ‘esque’. but yeah, it’s no where near as punky as green day or other prominent punk bands

@wellyremigio7023 wishing you lots of love. This semester has been my most difficult to keep pushing through. You're not alone ❤ pushing through a test while in the midst of an anxiety attack is more difficult that taking a test without one. I'm sure you did amazing
As someone that mainly listens to rock and recently got into the band this has me very excited, my favorite bands of all time are Alice in chains and twenty one pilots. i know he said on SAI he started to learn guitar alot more so i really hope he has some nore heavy distortion, maybe even a little metal/nu metal influence...
Doubt anyone will read this but this song helped saved my life and I feel like I need to say thank you to tyler and josh. I was going to kill myself last April, I had everything planned out and I felt really at peace with it. I was failing all my university classes and had stopped trying with everything. I had all my notes written, everything planned, it was all perfect. But I had always loved TOP and I was glad I was going to be around to hear their new songs come out, including this one, before I left. So of course "can't change what you've done, start fresh next semester" hit me like a freight truck. I was actually really angry at the song, just because I didn't want anything to get in my way, and I was upset because I didn't WANT reasons to stay, and yet here was this song that felt like it was speaking directly to me. I ended up telling my dad my plans the night before. Finally got diagnoses and lots of medications. But I'm doing okay, which is bizarre to say out loud. I never thought I would be okay, but I am. "Can't change what you've done, start fresh next semester." And next semester I'll be going back to university to retake my classes... stay strong everyone. Its hard to believe it'll get better, but it really does. You're never too far gone. It's worth trying, even as a last resort.
This song is literally what my darkest time was. I used to walk down the side of the street close to the gutter and look for cars because I didn't want to be there. A few times, I went out in the middle of the street and just sat on the ground on the yellow lines. I totally cried listening to this. I am doing so much better now and my "next semester" is going better. Thank you so much for making music that touches my soul and speaks words of hope.
Yesss. This part was so powerfull to me cause I've done the same. Sometimes I'd push myself in front of something but I used to hear like God talking to me and cars would swerve
The fact that the electric guitar isn't actually guitar but instead distorted ukulele makes me so incredibly happy and hopeful that we could seriously have the possibility of a metal twenty one pilots song. Imagine tyler shredding a distorted ukulele on stage while screaming, oh my gosh 😭😭😭
I'm in this music video! (And the thumbnail) 😁 The black dude with the white tshirt and demin vest! LOVE Twenty-one Pilots! You guys are awesome and make music that touches souls! Such an amazing experience!
This is like every single album they have had before combined into one song. The parting of the crowd form car radio, Tyler with the blurry face look, the yellow dashes in the road and like the banditos, the vibe of regional at best, and the how the beginning is just like shy away from scaled and icy.
The song is remembering his life as a young, angry and depressed teenager. They took inspiration of rock genres from that time period and blended them all in one song. Incredible. Every time they do the chorus, they use a completely different instrumental technique and style. They are so versatile. It’s amazing. This is ART.
I remember Tyler once said that he was heavily moved by a scene in The Killers' 'Read My Mind' where Brandon Flowers is standing on a street corner looking into the camera, where his eyes are calm but he can't keep his hand steady, symbolizing that even though he looks fine, he isn't. The scenes of Tyler in the street are very much giving me that vibe
Oh that's beautiful. That's one of my favorite songs on that Killers album. I hear 21P's influences of Green Day and Blur a lot in this and so it's only right that The Killers are also part of their inspiration.
The way he screams "and then he slow down and roll down his window and he says can't change what you've done, start fresh next semester" reminds me of taxi cab
“We’re driving to the morning sun, where all your blood is washed away, and all you did will be undone.” “Can’t change what you’ve done, start fresh next semester.”
i cry listening to this. i blame myself for all i did to my mother when she is sick until she died. and i always "remember certain things" that i did wrong then i will be depressed blaming myself. and i know my mother don't want that to me to feel sad and blame myself. then this song "get out of the road" or don't hurt yourself "can't change what you've done" i really can't change what i've done "start fresh next semester" "i don't wanna be here" move on start anew. but my love for my mother will never be gone it will never change. forget all things that i did wrong. become good now do good and do my best in everything. Thank you God for this music using twenty one pilots to say this to me.
@@Charlottee_.Their older albums will always be incredible (Vessel and Trench still go on loop all the time) but this Clancy era seems like a love letter from every era before it but also giving us peak TOP one final time
Every time I hear their music. Every time I see how much thought and passion goes into their music and videos and the story. I just wish I could tell them how much they mean to me and my family. Twenty One Pilots for ever. I love you guys
I love it when Tyler hesitating and jumping back in fear several times but then Clancy is suddenly standing still instead of Tyler and confidently waiting for the last moment to avoid the danger. Brilliant episode!
Since he was talking about his past self and now as Clancy he learned from his past mistakes, he know what the do and don't. It's a very on surface interpretation so I'd love to hear another
also when the camera is moving towards him in the road at 1:31 you can see that the fourth one has the mask on. three lights are lit but the fourth ones out
I feel like if you don't understand this song.....I'm so happy for you. Tyler is such an amazing songwriter, storyteller and artist. When I find a band, a person, a fan base that GETS IT, it makes me remember why it's important to stay. If you're reading this, STAY. Stay for the people who love you and for the strangers on the internet who totally understand how you feel. You Are Not Alone.
I love how Tyler writes lyrics which so strongly develop the lore while being a full story in itself. The yellow stripes meaning the stripes on the road and on the jumpsuits from Trench-like how does he come up with this?
@@papa_ice_waterwhatever’s troubling you, there’s always some music to guide you along the right path. Maybe TØP isn’t that artist for you, but it definitely is for me and million of others. I encourage you to go love other music rather than hate on the stuff you don’t love.

I wish there was someone in my circle as excited by this song as I am. We could just lie there holding hands listening to it on repeat and feel better about the world.
Notice how at 4:01 there is a car leaving and a car oncoming which represents “Can’t change what you’ve done” and the car coming is representing a fresh start to a next semester
this is also very likely a callback to the Heavydirtysoul mv, where Tyler is in a car that keeps circling around the same loop of road while slowly burning
@@Anxiety_AsylumIt has similar themes to A Car. a Torch, A Death from Self Titled, with the “Hey kid get out the road” and the “Start fresh next semester” being a similar god-figure that we see in ACATAD, which makes it feel like a modern version with a new style twist on it
@bekfastking2840 Taxi Cab also has God driving the car. In the songs where Tyler is driving he talks about suicide (I could pull the steering wheel-Car Radio, I wanna crack the door so I can just fall out-ACATAD) but when God is driving he is being saved (Taxi Cab, Next Semester)

His vocals have improved so insanely well over the years it’s crazy
It almost sounds like he is choking up on that part. I wouldn't judge him thought, he is singing his heart out about an attempt.

How did you get in? I always wondered

@@SeanONeill-ef5vb According to rateyourmusic, this song is a part of a genre called post punk revival so you might want to look into that
I lost my boyfriend to suicide in December and so listening to this song makes me think of him.

²² piløts!
This is a super interesting theory

How do you find out about these things? I’m dying to learn more about them

It’s insane how many genres he’s able to pull off though!
this is so far from punk rock

"Can't change what you've done, start fresh next semester."
And next semester I'll be going back to university to retake my classes... stay strong everyone. Its hard to believe it'll get better, but it really does. You're never too far gone. It's worth trying, even as a last resort.
Thanks for sticking around. See you next semester. 💕

The song is remembering his life as a young, angry and depressed teenager. They took inspiration of rock genres from that time period and blended them all in one song. Incredible. Every time they do the chorus, they use a completely different instrumental technique and style. They are so versatile. It’s amazing. This is ART.
This exactly !
