I watched other videos about how this is done. You were the only one explaining in detail how to turn the crank manually. Great video, and great friendly person.
Thank you so much. My car had a rattling coming from the timing chain and had a massive oil leak in the tensioner. I followed this video step by step and it went perfectly. No noise and no leak. Thank youuuuuu!!!!!
Im planning on doing this this weekend mine has 120 thousand miles and it only rattles when i started in the morning what it heats up it stops hope this is the problem.
First of your videos I've seen, I'm subscribing. You were thorough and well-paced... As a bonus, you avoided all of the unnecessary droning, tangential commentary, and self-promotive arrogance that too often exists and just bogs down, if it doesn't outright displace, the otherwise similarly informative content of far too many of your RUclips peers... Thanks for communicating in an accessible, linear way... I wish more of your RUclips-mechanic peers would adopt similar approaches, but either way many thanks, much appreciation
Thanks for all the corolla videos as an owner of a corolla I've learned a lot from your videos and saved some money. You seem like a lovely genuine guy would feel very happy and confident if you were my mechanic that I was getting honest work done 😊
This is a great video. Great demeanor in explaining points. I watched another video on this and they never mentioned turning the engine manually BEFORE you start it.
Thank you sir for posting this. This successfully fixed an oil leak at the timing chain tensioner on my 2005 Toyota Matrix XR. Great video and information. Other videos showed the belt tensioner having to be loosend. That is not the case like you said except for the higher performance Yamaha engine. Took me less than 15 minutes to change out and saved me lots of money versus taking to a dealership or mechanic. Thanks for what you do!
thank you so much for this video, the mechanic was going to charge me so much, but I understand exactly how to do it thanks to your clear instructions and can do it myself!
I heard it being mentioned by someone else on another video, u have to turn it clockwise manually, I think it’s when u turn it the chain stretches over the guide and the guide pushes against the tensioner and it backs out just enough for the hook to fall down
Very useful video. I want to add that I replaced my Celica (2zz-ge) tensioner by unscrewing the two v-belt tensioner spring bolts instead of unscrewing the third large bolt that holds the v-belt tensioner itself because I failed to do so unscrew.
@@JDR-AUS I unscrewed the V-belt tensioner bolt, then unscrewed the 2 small nuts that hold the chain tensioner. This is because the V-belt tensioner prevents the chain tensioner from coming out (at least on the 2ZZ-GE)
This really helped me out on my Corolla 2013 (trim = base), I just completed this entire operation. Going to make a YT video on where the engine crank is, because I couldn't find this information posted online. Other than that, everything worked fine (car runs, no leak!). Thanks Toyota Maintenance!
Do the latest versions of this tensioner not have the O-ring? The part # 13540-0T020 appears to be without an O-ring but still requires the gasket from what I can tell.
Does the #1 piston need to be a top dead center when replacing this tensioner? I am having difficulty getting the new tensioner to slide in far enough to get the retaining nuts to go back on. I have the tensioner piston compressed and retained by the small latch.
Hello, your instructions were very, very clear! However, I am not at all experienced in doing repairs or replacements myself, and would rather have an expert do it. What kind of price should I expect to pay to have the timing chain tensioner replaced...? The Toyota dealership I've been going to for services since my 2006 Corolla was purchased quoted me $1,600. Which seems exorbitant to me for something that appears to be a 2-3 hour job maximum, and a part that costs about $20-30.
So I did this on my toyota corolla and sealed the tensioner using permatek gasket maker and it is still seaping oil! Did I not use enough gasket maker? I feel like I used a lot of permatek. Its not a crazy amount of oil, and to be fair this solution did prevent the leaking for probably 3-4 months. But the small leakage is back again!
Love the video very easy to understand. I have a 08 I'm working on has no compression on any cylinder. Friend said it ran poorly and then wouldn't start. Timing chain feels lose, I think the chain jumped some teeth... I can't find a video on timing chain replacement or how to get it in time. Wish you had a guide made, cause I feel like it would be a good one.
Great video. Thanks toyota tensioner. I did it successfully 6 month and everything worked perfect. But, apparently the new tensioner o-ring now have started leaking. I just remove the oring with a good one, i turn tha crank manually and I heard the click than i tried to turn the engine on after i cranked the starter 2 to 3 time the engine was blocked. I removed the tensioner again I saw it was armed correct. I put it back but now it is impossible to turn the crank manually it seems that engine is stuck somehow. if you know what might have cause this, please reply to this comment. I really will appreciate you help. Thank you.
Mine 2009 corolla has 115000 miles and a leak at the tensioner. I'm going to change the tensioner when I do the gasket. I'm going to use the updated model tensioner. The one on there is almost certainly original.
Hello, I am from the Philippines and I watched your video, it's clearly detailed I just want to know better where to locate the crank bolt 19mm to release the tensioner.
Hello Sir, Thank you very much for this video. I followed steps, Put chain on all the timing marks. But when I turn engine by hand, Yes I turned engine 5-6 times but still chain marked links are matching, did I do something wrong? engine run fine after I put back together but it does through code P0017. Please advice. Thank you very much!!!
Hello sir, which way is better access to the tensioner, top or bottom? Mine is 2002 Celica/Yamaha. Thanks in advance and thanks for the very detail video.
Remove the valvecover and release the tensioner manually from the inside with a flathead screwdriver (careful not to drop anything inside though). And dont forget to order a new valvecover gasket. This method might be good to use on cars with a lot of milage but still no chainrattle.

good video, a question friend, first you place the tensioner with the bushing closed and then when it is already placed you turn the shock absorber clockwise. until the bushing relaxes on the chain? I have seen videos that first give the opposite direction to the clock hands and then they give the right direction to the clock hands, can you clarify that doubt for me?
I watched other videos about how this is done. You were the only one explaining in detail how to turn the crank manually. Great video, and great friendly person.

Can we turn the alternator bolt instead of the crank bolt? It will some good turns as the alternator pulley is small?
@@GihanTimantha little late I'm sure but turning the alternator won't turn the crank

I do have to say though my favorite part hands down was “DEEZ NUTZ” !!
Very straight forward. Simple. So why are charges of over a thousand dollars to do a fifteen minute job? I looked up prices for a replacement.
