First of your videos I've seen, I'm subscribing. You were thorough and well-paced... As a bonus, you avoided all of the unnecessary droning, tangential commentary, and self-promotive arrogance that too often exists and just bogs down, if it doesn't outright displace, the otherwise similarly informative content of far too many of your RUclips peers... Thanks for communicating in an accessible, linear way... I wish more of your RUclips-mechanic peers would adopt similar approaches, but either way many thanks, much appreciation

Thank you sir for posting this. This successfully fixed an oil leak at the timing chain tensioner on my 2005 Toyota Matrix XR. Great video and information. Other videos showed the belt tensioner having to be loosend. That is not the case like you said except for the higher performance Yamaha engine. Took me less than 15 minutes to change out and saved me lots of money versus taking to a dealership or mechanic. Thanks for what you do!

So I did this on my toyota corolla and sealed the tensioner using permatek gasket maker and it is still seaping oil! Did I not use enough gasket maker? I feel like I used a lot of permatek. Its not a crazy amount of oil, and to be fair this solution did prevent the leaking for probably 3-4 months. But the small leakage is back again!

Hello, your instructions were very, very clear! However, I am not at all experienced in doing repairs or replacements myself, and would rather have an expert do it. What kind of price should I expect to pay to have the timing chain tensioner replaced...? The Toyota dealership I've been going to for services since my 2006 Corolla was purchased quoted me $1,600. Which seems exorbitant to me for something that appears to be a 2-3 hour job maximum, and a part that costs about $20-30.

I have an '05 Corolla XRS w/ 2ZZ motor. Have developed the oil leak. Remove the valvecover and release the tensioner manually from the inside with a flathead screwdriver (careful not to drop anything inside though). And dont forget to order a new valvecover gasket. This method might be good to use on cars with a lot of milage but still no chainrattle.
