Dear Grace, I cooked this dish today. I used salted black soya beans to replace taucu, thus the sauce come out black color, but the dish is delicious. My hubby loves this dish. Thanks for your recipe. I love your recipes which is Short and Sweet.

JHJH007 you can steam any type of fish but I recommend a fish which is not fatty and doesn't have a super fishy smell. (Mackerel) is super fatty and fishy so use that as a reference point.
+Rocephine Unasyn it's not necessary, taucu is already salty. But generally, when you steam fishes, they shouldn't be marinated. You can also check out the other steamed fish recipe whereby a simple soy sauce gravy easily enhances the taste of the fish 😚 link is in the description box!
Hi Grace, I tried your marmite chicken the other day...it was delicious. I'm thinking of trying this out but just need to clarify one thing. Do you wash the taucu before cooking it or use it straight?
Hello Sham, thank you for trying out the recipe ;) Did you upload a food snap to your Nyonya Cooking profile too? Regarding taucu, I don't think you need to wash it since it was not mentioned here: www.nyonyacooking.com/recipes/steamed-fish-with-fermented-bean-paste~H1MEuwsDfcWQ
@@nyonyacooking So sorry...I will definitely make marmite chicken again and upload a picture next time. I was just too eager to eat and forgot...ooops. My apologies. Thanks for the reply and link for the taucu.

Oh, I don't mean in this video. I forgot which video but you mentioned the wrong ingredient while holding another. Haha! Can understand can already. :D
Note to self : tried this last night, not bad but lacks kick...missing is torch flower(which is hard to get), maybe steam with not only ginger but add few stalks of bashed lemongrass to the steaming. Also when serving with chopped chinese parsley and spring onions...maybe even when making the sauce add some toasted belchan and tamarind to it.

What fish would you recommend best for steaming? I'm currently in living in Europe. Thanks in advance!

I’m in Australia but I would recommend barramundi or snapper if they are available in your country.
Kenneth Chiang Mackerels are not super fatty. Salmons and trouts are. Whether or not the fish are fatty, it’s all about personal preference though.
Great

+Kurleigh Martin you can but I think the taste is very different. If you can't get hold of Taucu, then try it out with the Korean version.
