Totally agree! It's a beautiful hike and an astonishing sight to behold once arriving past the first treeline and clearing into the main clearing near the lake and river.
Beautiful! You should check out Mono Pass out of Mosquito Lakes Trail head, or head out on one of the many trails up in Bishop Canyon. Guaranteed two of the most beautiful places to hike in California! In fact anywhere between Bridgeport & Mt. Whitney simply can’t be beat in my opinion! 😉
Jane Smith it has been on my list for sure. It’s just such a long ride to get to the eastern sierras. Slowly chippin away though. Appreciate the advice. It’s always welcomed here.
The Outdoor Gypsy True, it’s a ride.... but a lifetime of memories! P.S. After a sometime up on the mountain it’s always nice to come down and soak in one of the areas half dozen or so hot springs! 😸
Awesome video ! I live in Twain Harte and just got back into backpacking. Family day hiked to relief reservoir on that same trail two weeks ago 🤙🏻. I’ll have to check out your other videos.
Thank you for this video.. I am coming here next weekend and no one has done a good video capture of what this place looks like until you posted ! I'm stoked !
Awesome video!! I was up there just a few weeks ago for the first time. It's amazing. You feel like you're in a different country. The only issue is that your feet will get wet and muddy.
What is the name of the parking lot? And the name of the trail? I love your videos! Has inspired me to go backpacking! If you have any link or maps to share please do , THANK YOU
The parking lot is at a resort called Kennedy meadows resort. There are two Kennedy meadows in California. This resort is off of hwy 108 by Sonora California. The parking lot is just before the resort ~1/2 mile on the left and on a little hill. Pretty easy to find on google maps. You can park right by the resort but they charge a ton of money to do so. The trail literally starts at the back end of the resort. This is part of the PCT so if you ask any of the people working at the resort they are very knowledgeable of the area. See a link for further help below. Hope this helps. www.kennedymeadows.com
thank you for the video! If I can ask, how long / far into the hike was it before you reached the open clearings with a good view of the mountains in the back? at about 6:49 in the video - I am hoping to find out how far you have to go before you reach that :)
maesba84 her bag was 45 liters (which is very small) and really only good for one, maybe two nights for most people. Size is relative though for what you need. Some people travel with almost nothing and they can get away with a bag this small. I would say a good 2-3 night bag would be in the 65 liter range. I personally use a 75 liter bag but I also will go for 4-6 nights and have to carry all my camera gear. Enjoy and good luck! This is an extremely magical place.
This was in late June. I would highly advise against this area if you’re doing this is January. It will have feet of snow. Plus It will be unlikely for the road to the trail head to be open this time of year.
Not dumb at all. A lot of people don’t really get the difference. Hiking is, in my definition, walking however long you want outdoors in a single day. Backpacking though is taking your gear out with you for multiple nights and days in a row. Sometimes upward of 7.
very nice. so beautiful up there. I have not hiked to that lake, but have been in that area before and have many hiking videos if you would like to check them out. I have subbed!

One of my most memorable moments on any trail.
Great video! Had fun watching.
Beautiful job.
Beautiful view. Nice hiking 👍🏼👍🏼
A buddy of mine and I do a race every summer , a shuttle hike from Kennedy to Crabtree . I am the current champ at 29 hours 😁
dude that is dope. Congrats for real thats impressive.
My favorite trail head , I love Summit Creek and Upper Relief Valley

Amen to that. Been in one of them but forgot the name already. Such a great area thinking of getting a small cabin out that way. One day. One day.

Such an amazing place. One of California’s (kinda) hidden 💎.

glad you enjoyed and could shed some light on the trip. Enjoy!

John Wigren thanks man. Glad you enjoyed. 100% agree with ya on all accounts. quite the muddy hike but soooo worth it.
Lol you guys parked in the wrong spot just like I did. Backpackers can park just past the store if the lot isn't full.
Yeah it was definitely not the clearest place in the world to park.

Between 5-6 miles. It’s a slow steady grind but you’re rewarded along the way. Definitely worth it.
Very helpful video! My husband and I are planning on going there next weekend :) How many liters is her backpack?

what time of year was this? I'm thinking about doing a 3-4 day backpacking hike somewhere in CA first of the year... would you recommend this ?

This might seem dumb but what is the difference between backpacking and hiking

Great video! Check out “winter camping at Kennedy lake” to see it in the snow!
any bears?? early spring time
Not that we saw Rick. But ya never know. Have to stay prepared.
