Laurence Fox says he expects to be fired issuing half-apology for GB News sexist rant

  • Right-wing commentator Laurence Fox has admitted he expects GB News bosses to sack him and Dan Wootton tomorrow - after more than 48 hours of public uproar over his offensive, sexist comments to a female journalist.
He issued an apology to Ava Evans, admitting he had been “demeaning” towards her - but in a rambling 15-minute video tirade on social media he tried to justify his attitude, saying he had been “cack-handed” but stood by the sentiment he had expressed.
The media regulator has launched an official investigation into Tuesday’s episode of GB News show Dan Wootton Tonight after receiving a flood of complaints.
    Ofcom received around 7,300 complaints.

There are glaring double standards in how the collective media, including the Independent respond to sexism.
    Misogyny = Condemn and Punish
MISANDRY = Totally ok. Let's tell men to open up and discuss their issues but when they do - downplay those issues.

Ava Santini really said, "Women should be able to weaponize false rape allegations in order to keep men afraid of actually committing sexual assault”. Why hasn't any member of Parliament stepped in to punish her, as was done on an "accusation" basis with Russell Brand?

I think in light of the fact Ava had previously said similar things in publicised comments and Laurence's 'shag' remark was directed at women like Ava; this should all be put down to experience. Laurence and Dan have apologised and Ava (who's a big girl) should accept and move on. Laurence and Dan could make a payment from their GB News earnings to a charity suggested by Ava. GB News should get its approach to what's appropriate sorted out. And we can all put this behind us and talk about stuff that actually matters.

The male host recommending that Laurence shouldn’t have a public platform in his world demonstrates just how easy & diabolical the system works at chewing them up & spitting them out & all from an empathetic POV with his female co-host.
I’m glad it appears the average person is waking up & expecting more thoughtfulness & nuance from these representatives whose job is to understand what’s happening in our world. If they go out of business then it’s an indication to them to wake up. Thank God for alternative media

now.... as much as I resented the remarks about Evans and the behaviour of these two men on the GB news show, is it any coincidence that shortly before that happened a Markle and her handbag were humiliated on a stage different from ever before, and Dan Wotton laughing at it in his show? Must be a coincidence, sure sure... lol. so not a coincidence.
this is so obvious, sadly... and sadly idiotically takes all the juice from the situation. Too bad. 🥺🤭🤔😁 It is the Markle-woman yet, again... 😝 edit: I wasn't clear with my comment, I mean, the markle-woman must have a sort of responsibility probably very likely for the situation, for the suspension. whatever.

Well done that man, not for what you said but for having the wisdom and humility to humbly apologise. But don't expect to be forgiven by the wicked woke haters, the self righteous who have never sinned in their lives.
As Jesus said to the wicked Pharisees when they brought the woman to Him caught in the very act of adultery, Jesus said he who is without sin, let him first cast a stone at her. And the entire mob was silenced by their own adulterous conscience because inward they were even more vile and full of self righteousness and pride, yet they would never apologise, they never ever felt remorse for their adulterous hearts and pride. Jesus then said to the woman, has no man condemned you? She said no Lord. And Jesus answered, neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more.
The mob had their stones but Jesus met her with love, grace and forgiveness. She was repentant, the religious crowd were still unrepentant but angry their sin had been exposed.
I salute you Lawrence for having the dignity to hold up your hands and genuinely recognise you made a mistake. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble, I truly hope by Gods grace He will save your soul and guide your life forward from here forward.
Keep speaking truth but do it with wisdom. 🙂

Society has become much too literal minded (and I don't mean liberal minded), which I somehow sense is of a fascistic nature. Laurence was presenting an opinion and maybe went a bit overboard. He's a terrific presenter at GB news (and so is a Wooten). And it's part of the British culture to be very insulting is my impression but I won't get into the sociology if it. If Laurence is sacked I hope he goes back to acting. He's a great actor. I'm a feminist and liberal by the way.

    • @primalconvoy

As a British person, used to biting comedy from the 70's to the present day, I think your comment was wholly inaccurate and thus irrelevant. This was simply a person, regardless of their supposed "talent", insulting someone on television and then paying the price for it. Their half-@rsed apology above only showed how entitled they still feel towards even their own employers.

The question is does Laurence or anyone for that matter have the right to express an opinion no matter how loathsome some people may find it. Should you be sacked for saying something very controversial? What does free speech really mean? And I wouldn't lump Brand and Fox together. Brand has been accused of sexual assault which is illegal. Laurence was out of line, way out of line and he apologized. What he said was more of a rant than the usual eloquent editorial he delivers. But maybe rants have there place too. I, for one, an tired of people's super sensitive feelings and always having to watch what you say and living in fear that someone might be offended. If people were freer to say what they think then we would be given the chance to know what we're up against.
