I also been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Where worldly medicine had failed to help God has helped me come a long way. Used to relate to about 90 percent now it's about 10 percent. He is the way maker and miracle worker
A message from a speech-language pathologist: Asperger's (which is no longer a term that is used) is a genetic disorder and cannot be "healed". Autism is NOT a disease or ailment that can be healed or cured. I do not want to dismiss Destyne's experience; however, this sends the wrong message to society at large, as well as being harmful to autistic individuals everywhere. From a neuroscience and sensory system perspective, you cannot one minute be hypersensitive to environmental input and the next minute have an entirely regulated nervous system when engaging with that same input. I am a believer in God and Jesus Christ; however, a genetic disorder that creates a physical alteration in the brain's structure, chemistry, and functioning is not possible. And this message is a harmful one to spread. I understand the point of the message and wholeheartedly understand the power of prayer; however, this message perpetuates that we should seek to cure or heal autism because it is a disease that is harmful or wrong. This message immensely hurts my heart, especially for the young autistic children I work with, as there are individuals out there now who may believe that who they are as a person can be "prayed away", and it is so wrong that they need to be "healed." I highly advise you think about the greater message you send in future sermons and how they may affect other individuals.
