In this video lesson I am going to show you Brian May's classic guitar solo that ends "We Will Rock You" by the legendary Queen.
Undoubtedly, you have heard this song a millions times on the radio, at sporting events and in commercials.
So in this We Will Rock You guitar lesson video, you will finally learn how to play that climatic ending just like Brian May did it.
The solo comes in with a sustaining harmonic that launches into a simple power chord rhythm. I will break down the strumming hand for this part in addition to showing you the chords.
Brian May then takes everything up an octave to the 14th fret and the real fireworks begin. You will be playing two triads (A major & D major) by constantly hammering-on and pulling-off between the two chords. In between all of this there is some cool hybrid picking licks as well. I will break all of those lick down note-for-note.
The solo quickly comes to an end almost as suddenly as it begins, but within that short time there are some great guitar techniques to get under your fingers. Have fun!
Carl...
Carl is my first stop when I a looking for a quick, no bullshit breakdown of a cover. If you are good enough to play the piece, you can put it together. Thank you Carl for all your videos!!!!
1:41 I think this has become a tutorial for "You Really Got Me" By The Kinks/Van Halen. Don't deny the similarities.
I thought the same 😁
super late but im pretty sure its an F power chord to a G power chord on the E buddy ;)
Well it similar but the power chords are different all songs have a song similar to it, that’s just the nature of music
Thank you very much for all your excellent guitar lessons. Much appreciated...Keep on keeping on...Cheers Bob
You're lessons are usually very good and I follow very. But this jut has me lost lol
It could also just be the constant use of that chord that makes it confusing
Same
You may want to just look up the tabs on it to help you too. I do that sometimes when the lesson is a little too complicated. Best of luck to you on this one.
First song I learned
It’s very clear demonstrated but the top left corner cam should face the guitar head on. You may also slow down the vid by 0.25x in the tripple dot option top right, it’s extremely helpful.
The intro is not just the harmonic... I think there's real feedback together with it. Maybe I'm wrong, as May's guitar has an unique sound...
+Alberto Jorge Soares May used a guitar he built with his dad.
You’re right, May’s guitar does have a unique sound, when he was designing the guitar with his dad, he wanted to to feed back, because he wanted to be “alive”
@@zekebilhorn8282 ya y'all r right, none of the solos i find on youtube rlly sound like the classic t hat is brian may's
Its really hard to recreate Brian May’s tone because it’s all volume. He plays through probably several Vox Ac30s cranked and then you get that feedback and crazy tone
Great lesson. Very helpful. Love your work.
absoutely excellent lesson and nailed the tone !
Malek do you know how to create this exact tone?
At first I thought you played you really got me
Давно искал такого учителя! Супер!
Finally, a tutorial for this solo that I can keep up with
And is this standard tuning?
Yep
yes
Great video Carl!
Thank you
Can you do some song's from Tenacious D ?
fozeman666 Go check the "Guitarings" channel, they did some tutorials themselves :)
To be fair... if you’re good enough to play this solo, you are good enough to use your ears to help you put this together if he didn’t explain it to your liking. He shows you where your fingers go on the neck so just figure the rest out yourself and stop enabling your playing by needing a step by step on every single note.
👍 here here!
Whiners
Also, for everybody asking about pedals and shit, THEY DIDN’T HAVE PEDALS BACK THEN!!! Use your ears and adjust the tone. Don’t buy a cheap amp. The money you use in pedals could buy you a decent amp. All tube. 🤦♂️
@@capncrunch4497 they did have pedals back then….
@@capncrunch4497 no pedals back then? This was the 1970’s not 1870’s
Thank you for the lesson
Carl! You always amaze me!
You're really amazing. Thanks you for this video :)
1:15 start
0:10 intro
*Gives up life*
Can you do Queen's "I Want It All"
And do you want it now?
TheRadioAteMyTV I think he wants it all
It’s gonna take him a while to do all of Queen’s songs
Otaku Lusr worth it
@@TheRadioAteMyTV what an underrated joke
I find it incredibly difficult staying fully barred on the 14th fret whilst doing the pick offs with my fingers so close together!
brian may pretty genius
What kind of pedal/effects are you using to get that kind of distortion?
Full gain and full master on the amp
Noisy little cricket, that Strat.
A+
I love your lessons... can you please make a video of solo of "lift" from poets of the fall..
Can you do Uma Thurman xFall Out Boy
Thanks for the Brain May classic. Could you please teach the whole song ?
That is the whole song basically
You want the footstomps and clapping taught???
ya the only guitar in this song is the solo
Any chance you can do One Vision by Queen?
AWESOME!!
Hey, I wanna play this song... but what key are the vocals in. What note can I play to get into key for the vocals?
Thank you 🙏 sir :)
I need to buy an electric guitar... should sound exactly the same which I just heard, Any suggestions?
sanat rathore fender strat? or bgm guitar
Can you please make Yesterdays by Guns n Roses in the future?
Could you please do Gimme Danger- The Stooges? Thank you.
What pedal are you using in this video?
YES ITS HERE XXXXXX
Wtf is with all the Xs? And this video is years old, christ did you think about what you were typing when you typed it ALL IN CAPS? Dumb ass human.
Can you do some more baroque or classical songs like bachs prelude in emajor that you did awhile ago?
Hey Carl, how bout some more U2 like maybe pride in the name of love or beautiful day
I love you Carl
Can I play this on acoustic guitar?
Amelia SNG depends how many frets your guitar has
If it's a semiacoustic why not
Rip your fingers
Can you do sweating bullets please
Realistically, if you are a hobby guitarist who had lessons years ago, how hard would it be to pick this up?
If you have a little practice too, you can pick it up in 15 minutes or so in the second attempt. Just don't get intimidated by the song, the comments really overstate the difficulty of the song, it's pretty easy.
TIP: Don't try to follow EXACTLY what Carl is doing. Try figuring out the rhythm on your own by looking at him play.
PS: Carl is playing perfectly. He is a genius, but sometimes trusting your ear helps. Once again, Carl is not wrong.
Pranjal Jharkharia Thank you for the encouragement!!
Yeah it's easy
You can play it on any electric and pick it up in an hour or so
Practise it daily and you'll be ready to perform for a crowd:D
Does anyone know what key this played in???
WAY too much overdrive here, sounds awful. Nice transcription though, the playing is right on.
monkeygruven it’s so hard to actually learn with it. Ahhhh
It’s not overdrive, it’s distortion.
There’s a difference
Overdrive - pushes everything to the Max
Distortion - completely changes the tone
In short
Overdrive is more softer than distortion
Distortion is heavier
@@DiscontinuedChannelOne yes, this is distortion. May used a Rangemaster treble booster into a Vox AC30 to produce overdrive. Distortion on this solo sounds terrible is my point.
monkeygruven
Yeah i used less distortion for this solo and it sounds better
Intro part of sweet child is simliar. I wonder if Slash ... ??
É uma tg530??
Can you please go slower and show where your fingers are more? I might just be extremely stupid.XD
qualiti?
My fingur hutrz lol
KingNeptune8900 they will do you’re just gonna have to play through it:)
I always liked we will rock you but not queen.now i learnt that we will rock you is from queen!
I dont know if they wrote it
How can you not like Queen? 😂 Everyone had their own Taste though... 😛 And btw, yes queen wrote we Will Rock you, more specifically, Brian May
Black Betty would be hectic
MDTQP no kidding
thats why i hate cover of this song, its too juicy for me but its a good song in studio !
this is one of those songs you can mostly improvise
helo i neesd help im lost and not good at guitar
in spanish please
really
need some doors Carl
Riders on the Storm would be nice and it's a Doors tune...
Buddy Martin most of its on organ
Thank you for not explaining EVERY SINGLE string, fret, & finger, as if you are showing a drummer how to play it.
You are using a little too much gain
You're really amazing. Thanks you for this video :)
