    John - you are fast becoming my fav U'tuber for photography content. You've got the guy with hair like a bush who sniffs cameras, the husband and wife who are the Ken and Barbie of photography, the Aussie bloke with 'Golden Fever', who loves his half-naked Asian girls and the mumbling Pom who loves his landscapes. Most of them are pretend photographers who photograph brick walls and do reviews from their armchairs. You are the real deal John, who almost every day photographs real people and real models and shares the nitty gritty of running a photography business. It must pay you well because just about every week you have some new piece of expensive equipment in your hands.

Could you do a portrait session showing different methods you use to have no-shadows white backdrop (in your channel you never have shadows on backdrops, and it must be a combo depending of the session of big softboxes, light/model placement and post, but I'm kind of struggling with the topic)

    Nice video, photo session and resulting images as always, thanks. At times I shot portraits with a 24/1.8 up close in their face. A guy once said to me at an event: "You like to shot close, don't you?". And it is true since I think one in many cases gets more intimate portraits that way. Another reason is because at the crowded events I shot people start to walk between me and my subject if I don't stand close enough. And finally people these days are more used to see themself shot with a wide angle than a light tele since they have used their smartphone for selfies which typically is around 26 mm. It also happens that I shot full body environmental portraits with a 16 mm to get the distorted perspective. But there is no rule to always use wide angles either, I shot portraits at 200 mm as well if I think that will do it. You have already touched this in another of your videos Different people look better or worse at different focal lengths and one have to figure out what works best for a specific person. And also choose focal length depending on the scene and what one wants to accomplish.

    I believe Terry Richardson ( I think that is his name ) used flash at lens level. Custom Brackets has a bracket CB Mini-RC. I have used it with a Godox TT350 when I shot with Olympus. I still have the bracket and have wanted to try it with my Nikon Z system. Also the Godox Lux Junior comes to mind for this similar look. I enjoyed seeing your results with this combo. Question why did you choose the elmarit 28mm vs the summilux 28 or summicron 28 curious loved the pictures by the way

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  Год назад +2

      That’s an easy one. With wide angle I’m always stopped down for what I primarily use it for. A wide gives you greater depth-of-field by design and having or shooting at anything wider then 2.8 serves no purpose for me. My very first wide with a 1.4 was a Nikon. I was young and dumb and thought… if it has 1.4 I’m going to use 1.4…. Then I got the group photos pulled up from a wedding and almost had a heart attack! 2 people in focus and the rest were just…. And when I’m shooting events, there is rarely one person in the photo… so I need more depth there as well. Finally, the weight, price and sharpness are all powerful factors as well. Hope this answers your question.

    For full body or half body shots, why not use a 28mm especially if you don’t have space to step backwards. It’s probably not ideal for close-up head shots, depending on intended final usage. Personally I prefer a 24mm over a 28mm. The lighting did remind me of Terry Richardson’s work, but not the content or his attitude.

      @@kaskoPhoto For its price it is pretty neat. I used it with low available light indoors and the power was sufficient. It is a different story outdoors. It is way harder to get this "flashy" look. Sometimes there was just not enough power (understandably). It was good for lifting the shadows outside and brightening things up. That can also be tricky but I got some good results sometimes. When only lifting shadows I am very keen on not letting it look like flash being used.
