I'm just starting out and am at a similar stage where you were on this video: it actually gave me an unexpected bit of unintentional advice to record myself and see what I sound like, will try it tomorrow
EDIT: For the beard-eating part, the one I got was the Seydel SESSION (not the steel, the regular one) and it never ate my beard thus far (I have a similar beard layout to you). If the plates go bad I plan on upgrading it with the plates from the SESSION STEEL since I really like the current form and that it's just silver+black where's that one is orange.
