Good info thank you
My father and I we are in the house deed and live in the property. We both qualify 100% for the homestead exemption. He applied for the 65 and older exemption was approved. We can only use 50% of the discount since I am not 65 years old. My question is how would that work do they remove value of the property to get the discount or what does it go based on? Thank you!
Hi Kimberly, I'm not sure what you're asking. They will apply his exemption to 1/2 of the value of the property. if you have other questions, call us for a consult at 972-845-1200
Do both home owners have to be 65 to get the homestead exemption?
No ma'am, both have to be owners and use it as their homestead.
Do you have to live in the house?
Usually, yes. However, if there is a trust in place, or you are in assisted living, there are exceptions. Call us at 972-845-1200 to discuss your situation.
Thank goodness ( i have grand mal seizures in my sleep ) I inherited a house from my parents…. I was so worried about this , I can’t work , I can barely survive day by day
