- Just some simple tips & tricks and common mistakes I saw when I worked as a guide/outfitter worker on Upper Red Lake. I lived on the lake in an ice house and picked up a lot of info on the lake. I also throw in some lures and colors to get you started if you’re looking for some guidance on that.
Thanks for watching!
I think nailed it. They hate noise out there. Crowds = no fish. One other tip. If you do move to a new spot, you really need to spend at least an hour there before moving again. Simply the noise you create moving there will scare fish in the vicinity and it takes time for them to come back.
Agreed!
Simple, informative and straight to the point. Thanks for the tips!
No problem!
love Slender spoons with a minnow head or Gulp 1" minnow
Very well put together. Just got off the ice with a limit and I couldn’t agree more with everything you cover here especially the stuff about keeping the bait above the fish
Thanks!
RIGHT - ON MURPH !!!!!!! Excellent and Clean
✨🎣💫
Thanks 🤙
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Love the videos man! It’s nice not having someone jumping around for the camera and actually fishing/ passing along useful tips.
Thanks man! I really appreciate it, I’m workin on bringing more.
@@murph9567 do it! I watched the video of you cooking walleye in beaver fat and I think I watched everyone after that haha, I think I’m gonna start trapping now
@@C.Davidson love it! Yeah trapping is a lot of fun and not too many people do it.
Couldn't agree more. Can't take all the idiots with the fake excitement/enthusiasm. Just be yourself and catch fish and give some tips.
One of the more helpful videos I've seen on ice fishing
I appreciate it 🤙🤙
Excellent advice. Thanks for sharing!
Great trip with the graph and switching to a different lure . Thank You for the effort with this channel . 👍
Great tips and tricks, thanks for the info.
I also like the hammered lures.
Good solid information
Nice tips Murph. Thanks
No problem man!
Thanks so much for the tips man. Gonna definitely try to switch lures you've taught me a lot. Appreciate it!
No problem! Glad to hear it
Trying to figure out what you have in that upper corner, is that a TV? or is that a fish finder.
It’s an iPad, I watch stuff on it during the slow times.
Who did you work for? Bearpaw Guides? I bear hunted out of there a couple times. Seems like a nice guy.
I worked for Chaz with first city guide service his 2nd year out there. Most of the outfitters out there are good people.
Awesome video man... good stuff and strait to the point. Nothing worse then listing to someone that likes hear themselves talk 🤦🏻♂️. I’ll be taking this with me to red ! Heading up there Tuesday !! Thanks again!
No problem, and thank you, good luck up there!
so much info in this video man! loved it
Great info
New to your channel, thanks for all the tips on those lake's!! Enjoy all of your videos.
No problem, thanks!
Great Video!!! Watched a few...I'm sold...subscribed! Not sure how much you hit LOTW but one like this for there would be great.
Appreciate it! I do plan on going up there a few more times than usual so I’ll do my best to get one in. I don’t have nearly as much experience there as Red.
Great video!!
Thanks!
If it doesn't glow or rattle it doesn't go down the hole on Red Lake
Agreed
how deep should we be targeting around this time of year. early january?
I’d try 12-15 FOW away from any big crowds during the day and shallower at dawn and sunset.
I also found out that letting my jig hit the bottom a few times and letting it sit will bring them back to n and provide a strike.
Yeah that works well especially later in the season.
Awesome content! I built your IFish pro and love it. Would you make a tips and tricks video for Mille lacs?
Thanks! Yeah I’ll get a Mille lacs one done at some point.
Awesome
Hell yea..subbed...👍👍👍
Thanks 🤙🤙
Anyone know if there is a decent perch bite on Upper RED through the ice? Or ever?
Late ice you start to get more of them but I’ve never seen a really good bite like what you’ll get at other lakes.
What do you think of the theory that red dies after early ice? Any input?
There is some truth to that, but limits are usually still caught just by having rattle reels down 24 hours a day for sleeper houses. Jigging bite does die down but there still are those magic days at times, I’ve had random very good days in February.
What kind of stuff do you look for when you are finding a spot to set up on red?
Getting away from the crowds if possible is the main thing. Other than that it can be tough. The little structure there is near shore will be good early season but once the bite is out deep it’s kinda just picking a spot and hoping the fish come through. If you’re in a sleeper then you have the advantage of fishing 24 hours a day though and can pick up fish even in a slow bite. Ice heaves can also be an overlooked structure, you need to be careful about getting too close to them though.
I know the crappies are very few these days but how do you find them on URL?
Seems like you just have to get lucky. They tend to come through more later in the season and more on the north end of the lake. Every once in awhile someone will get lucky and find an area they’re in and be able to catch some for a few days but not in large numbers. They’re usually big when you get them though!
Great video and yes you are correct get away from the schools of people if you want to catch schools of fish
Thanks dude, yeah it seems to be something lots of people don’t wanna do.
More crowd, more pressure, more noise…. Thank me later 😅🔥🔥🔥👍🏼👍🏼
Rule #1 biggest mistake at RED, no beer 🍺!
Easiest lake to fish in the world
