1 million a month for 14 out of 472 stations? That sounds like such a waste. How about they use that money for bigger turnstile’s that would be impossible to hop. Wouldn’t that make more sense instead of hiring a security team for only a few stations? People will still make a run for it. MTA made a BIG mistake.

I worked in a very large department store in nyc and the only thing the security guards were concerned with was the amount of women they could get. Never heard of them actually doing any asset protection 😭

I am constantly getting harassed by homeless people and people who are under dire circumstances to get money from just about any means they can, and then get upset when I can't help them. I have seen these "private security guards" in action by my stop 6 or 8 by my stop and they either sitting on benches chatting on cell or to each other and even opening gate for people beating the fare or just watching fare beaters jump turnstile, I didnt even know they were security at first, waste of money.

NYC should get new turnstiles that make fare evasion harder. Paris installed full height fare gates that are basically impossible to jump over, we should do that here.

Make the subway free. once you have any earnings or benefits, the taxes will include a MTA rider tax that includes the price of riding the subway for a year. the amount will be deducted from your state and federal taxes.

In london you have to swipe to enter and to leave , the turnstile is like a door so you can’t hop it .

Wow! Where is that same energy for criminals assaulting people! Furthermore fix those machines to allow an individual to put any amount of money they wish to on their metro card using any bill higher than $5.00. Those machines at many stations are usually completely it functional or semi- broken and will not accept bills!
Private Security isn’t the answer. The MTA should have its own Enforcement Officers in addition to the NYPD. Enforcement Officers can cite people for fare evasion and other things like drinking.
The mta need its own security guards in all stations plus a xray luggage. So the passenger can feel safe riding mta. Look at airports why there have no crime happen?

Dear MTA, why do you think people are evading the fare? It's because most of the people that are evading the fare CANNOT afford to pay the fare, during this inflation period. So why not take the millions of dollars that you are going to spend on paying security guards to police people.
